William S. Thomas
1832-1912; Cpl., Co. A, 78 PA Infantry; Modesto Citizens Cemetery GAR plot;
born in Pennsylvania. |
James L. Thompson
1839-1914; Stanislaus County History says he was a drummer in the Civil War;
he was a true friend of the GAR and was made an honorary member of Grant
Post #9, Modesto; he worked to obtain the cannons that still adorn the GAR
plot in Modesto Citizens Cemetery, where he is interred; he named his ranch
Lanark Park after his birthplace in Scotland; he came to the US in 1849 and
to California in 1869; left widow Agnes Boyd; he died in San Jose,
California. |

1842-1924; Sgt., Co. C, 3 VT Infantry; Cos. D & B, 16 PA Cavalry; Modesto
Pioneer Cemetery; born in New Hampshire; widow Elizabeth D.; member of Grant
Post #9 GAR; came to Modesto, California by 1910; in Custer, Nebraska 1900;
pension application #26448 filed in 1923 in California; widow's pension. |

plot; born in Ireland; enlisted at LaGrange, California 11/15/1861; mustered
out at Camp Douglas, Utah Territory 11/14/1864; transferred from Co. K to
Co. D; by 1860 he was working as a blacksmith in Branch Township; pension
application #454194 filed on 07/07/1882 in California. |
