Henry Whitmore Patterson
1839-1938; Cpl., Co. D, 166 OH Infantry; Modesto Citizens Cemetery GAR plot; born in Medina, Ohio; enlisted 05/02/1864; mustered out 09/09/1864 at Camp Cleveland, Ohio; came to California by 1888; had certificate dated 09/15/1864 expressing appreciation for honorable service from President Lincoln, also signed by Edwin Stanton; he was the last member of Grant Post #9 GAR to die (membership had been as high as 150).

1820-1888; Pvt., Co. B, 21 NY Cavalry (family grave marker says Captain); Modesto Pioneer Cemetery; born in New York; widow Abby Jane; residing in Modesto, California 1869.
Silas Pearson
1820-1884 before October; Capt., Co. K, 137 NY Infantry; Modesto Citizens Cemetery GAR plot; born in New York; enlisted 09/02/1862 at age 42; wounded at Wauhatchie, Tennessee; discharged due to disability 05/10/1865; widow Elvira; came to California by 1880; pension application #75727 filed on 07/05/1865; widow's pension; he was a wagon/carriage maker.

I, 13 KS Infantry; Modesto Citizens Cemetery GAR plot; born in Missouri; enlisted 08/19/1862 at Brown County, Kansas; mustered out 06/26/1865; widow Elizabeth; 1860 in Kansas, 1870 in Missouri, 1880 in Oregon, 1910 in Stockton, California, 1920 in Modesto, California; pension application #975837 filed in 1891 in Oregon; widow's pension.

Stephen V. Porter
1840-1912; Sgt., Co. A, 11 WI Infantry; Turlock Memorial Park; born in Sullivan County, New York; enlisted 09/08/1861; mustered out 09/04/1865; served as a color bearer and adjutant of his company; wife Florence Lander; came to Turlock area before 1870 by boat and across Panama.
Frederick P. Pulcifer
1840-1911; Pvt., Co. H, 21 ME Infantry; Modesto Citizens Cemetery GAR plot; born in Maine; enlisted 10/11/1862 at age 22, residing in Pittston, Maine; mustered out 08/25/1863 at Augusta, Maine; came to California by 1890; pension application #942245 filed on 10/10/1890 in California; died near Crows Landing, California.
James N. Pyers, Sr.
1840-1937; Pvt., Co. H, 17 OH Volunteers, then to Co. K, 95 OH Invalids Corp; Modesto Citizens Cemetery; born in Allen Center, Ohio; enlisted 08/08/1862 at age 31; mustered out 1864; wounded 02/11/1863 at Ft. Pickering, Memphis, Tennessee while on picket duty; wife Betsy L. Bowers; member of GAR; pension application #42707; of 110 men in his Company, only 4 returned; last 6 years were at California Veterans Home - Yountville, where he died.
