1839-1928; Sgt., Co. C, 39 PA Infantry; Oakdale Citizens Cemetery; born in New Comerstown, Ohio; enlisted at Franklin, Pennsylvania, April 1861; wounded 05/10/1864 at Spottsylvania, Virginia; discharged due to disability 06/29/1864; member of Dix Logan Post #3 GAR, Dept of Utah; came to California by 1916; pension application #49789 filed on 08/08/1864; widow's pension.
James Newman
1841-1923; Pvt., Co. C, 46 IA Infantry; Modesto Citizens Cemetery; born in Hendricks County, Indiana; enlisted 05/21/1864 at age 21, residing in Guthrie County, Iowa; mustered out 09/23/1864 at Davenport, Iowa; wife Rachel Jane Moon; came to California before 1920; died in Salida, California.
Robert Nowell
1839-1891; Modesto Citizens Cemetery GAR plot; The Modesto Evening News 04/30/1891 carries this info: "The funeral of Robert Nowell, who died at the County Hospital ... tomorrow forenoon. Deceased being an old soldier..." Burial Permit indicates burial in Veterans Plot.
