00-30 Gia Ezio Gia (known as George) came to Redding about 1913 from Italy to visit his sister, Maraglia. About 1920 Gia's wife suffered brain damage as a result of surgery in Redding. We would like to find the news article about the surgeon's suicide. Submitter 09/17/00
00-29 Mathews, Prince My wifes name is Kim. She was born as Kim Mathews in Redding, California. November 20th 1959. Her father is listed as Newton Prince on her birth certificate. All we know about him is that he was from an Indian Reservation up north of Redding and was probably full blood Indian. Any info at all would be greatly appreciated as we have been looking for a longtime. Thanks.

00-28 Winesett Calvin Winesett was born c. 1830 in IL. He married Emily and moved to Dallax, TX, and then to Shasta County about 1860 where he mined for a while and then worked as a wagon maker and a coffin maker until about 1868/9 when he moved to Walla Walla County, WA. 00-24 Hildreth, Raser, Smith

I am searching for information about my great grandmother who lived as a young bride in Redding and I believe that her family also settled there for a time after arriving in California in 1847 on the Overland Trail.

My great grandmother's name is Jennie Smith Hildreth. Her husband was a Baptist circuit preacher named: William Hildreth. Her parents were Albert Smith and Nancy Raser Smith. Her brother, David Smith, I believe lived in Oroville not Redding. I cannot locate names of other family members but am working on this through their time before they came west and lived in Springfield, Illinois (prior to 1847).

My great grandmother, Jennie, and her husband William had four children:

  • Alice
  • Robert
I don't know if they were born in Redding or the area of Oakland since they later lived there. I appreciate any help you can provide me. This information comes from death certificates and family journals that I received after my aunt died. Thank you so very much.		 Sharon 07/29/00

00-17 Jones I am searching for information on my husband's father, Robert Edward Jones, b. 4/23/1923 in Chariton, Lucas County, IA. and d. 3/22/1976 at Redding, CA. My husband never knew his father, so it has been difficult getting information on him and his family. Need information on Charles J. "Jake" Evinger and family. He was born June 16, 1857 in Illinois to William Harris Evinger and Amanda Charlotte Evinger (nee Mack). He was married but I don't know his wife or children's names. I've been told his cabin burned down with him in it and I know his date of death is May 25, 1934. He died in Shasta County.

Also looking for his cousin, Stella M. Evinger, daughter of Alfred Evinger and Elizabeth F. Evinger (nee Snyder). She was born in Illinois in 1868/69 and married William Heryford Oct. 2,1884 in Auburn, Placer County.

00-11 Fonda I would greatly appreciate assistance to locate my great-grandfather and great-grandmother's gold mine. Their names are George D. and Elizabeth or (Elisabeth) Fonda. I do not know the location. I do know my grandmother, their daughter, and other siblings were born in Sacramento, California. The date of birth for Julia Ann Fonda is 1869. I undersand there is no census prior to 1900. I was hoping to extract info from the census such as occupation (gold miner). It seems that is not possible. Any suggestions or comments are welcomed. The mine was successful - family moved back to Brooklyn, New York and purchased several boarding homes for a new business. Great-grandfather went on to join the New York Police Department. This is the last I can find George. Grace is in Crescent City CA. in the 1890s. Need b., d., m. for both and their parents. They lived in Shingle Town and he was a shingle maker. 00-07 Hatler, Hufford I'm looking for information on the marriage date of my paternal grandparents who lived in Shasta County for their entire married life. My grandfather, George John Hufford, was born in Shasta Co. on 5 Nov. 1858. He married Georgia Louise Hatler (b. Calaveras Co. 16 Nov. 1869). 00-06 Blood, Markle In our records it says that my grandfather, Alden Thomas Blood, was born 18 November, 1864 in Shasta County, CA. The only other information we have about him is that he married my grandmother in March, 1895. We think they were married near Baker City, OR. Her name was James Mamie Markle. She was the daughter of Richard Bruer Markle, who was born in Liberty, VA, but died near Haines, Baker County, OR. in 1890. R.B. Markle lived in Cloverdale in the 1860's but we do not have any information on Alden Blood after he and my grandmother divorced. I would appreciate any help you can give me. Lenore 02/24/00

00-04 Corrick, Gregory, James I am seeking information on my gggrandmother, Mrs. Mary James, who I believe married a Frederick Corrick on July 15, 1893. He would have been 70 years old at the time and she would have been 71. I need birth dates, death dates and descendant information on Corrick -- as a Hester Corrick, born abt. 1872 married a George Gregory, my ggguncle. Looking for information on KITZ (KITTS), John (1802-1878) or family. Came from Iowa in 1840's and mined for gold in the "Horsetown" or Readings Bar mining area in the 1850's-1870's. Death notice in Shasta City newspaper in 1878.
