Halsel, Thacker |
Hiram David Thacker came to Northern California by wagon train c. 1855 accompanied by son Harvey M. Thacker and son-in-law Wilson Faulk Halsel (wife Calista Casandra Thacker). They apparently settled first in Humboldt Co. By 1870 Hiram David Thacker was on a "bounty land grant" in Shasta Co. He died 2 Nov 1871 and is buried in Millville. Any info or connections on these families would be wonderful.
Also wondering if Hiram David Thacker died in the Indian conflict of 1871 (referred to in Jim's query and where I could get more info on this Millville incident)? More than happy to share what I have. Any information, help, connections, much appreciated and thank you so much in advance! |

Basham, Bassham, McDonald |
I am researching Rev. Pleasant Bassham(BASHAM)
from Arkansas. I understand Henry and William BASSHAM were in the area
of French Gulch and Weaverville. At least Henry's son, Paul BASSHAM
was in French Gulch. I heard Paul's daughter, Helen BASSHAM was married
to a McDonald and her son, Elmer gave
Rev. Pleasant Bassham'sletters, pictures etc. to a museum in Weaverville.
I have made an inquiry of the Trinity Co. coordinator but would also
like to know if there is anything you might have around your area of
French Gulch. Do you know of anyone else researching the BASSHAM name
in the area? Thanks for your help. |

Henden, Pederson, Peterson |
I am assisting Norway's Bydgebok authors in tracing the emigrants of
Norway (Luster County). They are looking for descendants of Trond Peter
Peterson or Pederson son
of Luster County emigrant, Ingebrigt Peterson of Miner Co., SD. Trond
Peterson was b. in Crawford Co., WI June 26, 1857. He had three or
four sisters; they were all married, but died rather young, probably
all in South Dakota. One sister, Mary Peterson-HENDEN,
lived for a length of time. She died at Howard, SD in 1929 and according
to her obituary was survived by her brother,Trond Peter Pederson residing
in Redding, Shasta Co., CA. This obit indicates Trond was still living
in 1929 at the age of 72. If anyone knows of this person, please contact
me.Thanks |

Jones |
Thomas Jones died in Shasta/Trinity area in approx 1850 - while selling oxen and supplies to gold seekers he was robbed and killed for the money in his pockets. He was reported to have been in/near either the town of Shasta or in the Oregon Valley North of Weaverville.
I am trying to locate information on his murder and location of his grave. Two
of his sons were reported to have come out from Cedar County, Missouri to place
a stone on his grave. He came to California with two partners (the Baker brothers)
and his 15 yr old son John. John died of typhoid fever sometime between 1850 & 1853.
Other information reports Thomas was on the Lassen cut-off near Shasta where
he was killed. |
