History Museums & Historical Societies
- The Atascadero Historical Society maintains The Colony House Museum and an excellent Online Collections Database on their website where you can search their archives, libraries and collection nearly 4,000 historic photos.
- The Cambria Historical Society collects and maintains Cambria history through the Paul Squibb collection and the Wilfred Lyons Memorial Archive, using donations to properly preserve, store and exhibit Cambria’s irreplaceable treasures of the past at the Cambria Historical Museum located in the beautifully-restored Guthrie-Bianchini House.
- The Cayucos Historical Society maintains the Cayucos History Museum located at the Chamber Visitor Center, and collects historical information on Cayucos homes, settlers, buildings and streets, in addition archiving and maintaining a collection of over 1,000 images and artifacts of Cayucos’ rich history.
- El Paso de Robles Historical Society makes it’s home in the historic Carnegie Library. The main floor of the library showcases the society’s collections through exhibits and displays which celebrate the area’s unique history. The Virginia Peterson Research Room, located on the lower level of the library, is the repository for photographs, documents, and publications related to the Paso Robles area and its citizens and Historical Society volunteers are available to assist with research requests.
- History Center of San Luis Obispo County, located on the corner of Broad & Monterey Streets near Mission Plaza in downtown San Luis Obispo, opened to the public in 1956 in San Luis Obispo’s historic Carnegie Free Library. The museum features changing exhibitions, a permanent display about county history, a reference library, and a bookstore.
- North County History Museums & Societies website provides a map and virtual tour of historical sites and museums in the North County from Camp Roberts to Santa Margarita with descriptions, addresses, phone numbers and hours of operation for each point of interest.
- Paso Robles Pioneer Museum is a wonderful collection of visual and written history that preserves and displays the interesting cultural, agricultural, commercial and other artifacts of life in a small California town during the 19th and 20th centuries.
- The Santa Margarita Historical Society promotes understanding and appreciation of Santa Margarita’s historical and cultural heritage by preserving Santa Margarita area historical artifacts and educating residents and visitors to the unique history of the Santa Margarita area.
- South County Historical Society represents the areas of Arroyo Grande, Pismo Beach, Avila Beach, Grover Beach, Oceano, Nipomo, Halcyon, Edna Valley, Los Berros, Oso Flaco and Huasna in San Luis Obispo County, California.
- The Templeton Historical Museum Society collects and preserves artifacts and records relating to the history of Templeton and the surrounding area and exhibits them at the Historic Templeton Museum.
