Eugene Barnes, 79
ESCONDIDO - Eugene Leroy Barnes, 79, died Friday, May 25, 2001, at his home.
Born Dec. 3, 1921, in Canton, Ohio, he worked for Singer Co. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a machinist second class with a tour of duty in the Pacific Ocean.
Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by his son, Dale Lee Barnes, in 1972. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Escondido; son Richard Eugene Barnes of Ojai; stepson Daniel Dawson of Willets; daughters Ginny Olson of Oceanside and Susan Kay Fish of Oceanside; stepdaughters Diane Moore of Redding, Kathleen Grant of Redding, Michelle Dawson of Costa Mesa and Carla Hill of Redding; sisters Donna June Barnes of Kennesaw, Ga., and Judy Smith of Bremerton, Wash.; grandchildren Wesley Wimpsett, Tanya Howell, Samantha Fish, Shannon Fish, Richard Barnes Jr., Gregory Bromley, Anthony Brooks, Daniel Brooks, Larry Sifers, Benjamin Moore and Jeffrey Dawson; and great-grandchild Richard Stafford.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, June 8, at Oakhill Church of Christ. A private cremation is planned.

Helen Files, 86
POWAY - Helen Antoinette Files, 86, died Thursday, May 31, 2001, in San Marcos.
Born Jan. 17, 1915, in Bernardo (now called Escondido), she lived in Poway for two years. She had been a retail clerk in the student store at Cal Poly Pomona during the 1960s and 1970s. Her family farmed Bernardo Hills in the early part of the 20th Century. They lived at Daley Ranch (now Rancho Bernardo Inn).
Mrs. Files was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Joseph E. Files, on Dec. 22, 1988. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law Barbara Bertran of Poway and Sharon and Rupert Folda of Colorado Springs, Colo.; brothers and sister-in-law Steve Coscarart of Hickory, N.C., and Pete and Junie Coscarart of Escondido; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, at Poway Bernardo Mortuary Chapel. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Froidurot officiating. Interment will be at Riverside National Cemetery.

Jack Bloore, 87
SUN CITY - Jack R. Bloore, 87, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at Ember Care in Perris.
Born April 23, 1914, in New York City, he lived in Sun City for eight months. He had worked for Modern Motors in Glendale for 44 years as a parts technician. He was a veteran.
Mr. Bloore is survived by his son, John Bloore of Las Vegas; daughter Linda Hall of Bloomington, Ind.; brother Charles Bloore of Sun City; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Interment will be at Eternal Valley Memorial Park in Newhall.

Myrtle Epperson, 83
WILDOMAR - Myrtle Rose Epperson, 83, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, in Ontario of natural causes.
Born July 21, 1917, in Englewood, Colo., she lived in Wildomar for 23 years. She was retired from Rockwell International in Los Angeles County.
Mrs. Epperson is survived by her husband of 65 years, Carl Hugh Epperson of Wildomar; son and daughter-in-law Charles Epperson of Wildomar and Roseanna Ganbay of Wildomar; daughter and son-in-law Sharion and Jon Rosander of Spear Ash, S.D.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service and burial is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, at Rose Hills Mortuary in Whittier.

Kelley Arden, 37
SUN CITY - Kelley Eileen Arden, 37, died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at her home.
Born Jan. 6, 1964, in Pasadena, she lived in Sun City for six years. She was a homemaker for 15 years and enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing, swimming and cooking.
Mrs. Arden is survived by her mother, Linda Clough of Sun City; daughter Sara Arden of Southern California; sister Lisa Colwell of Sun City; brother Phillip Langley of Garberville; and numerous nieces and a nephew.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. today, June 2, at Menifee Valley Memorial Park.

Jovan Kirovski, 77
ESCONDIDO - Jovan Kirovski, 77, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at his home.
Born Jan. 2, 1924, in Siricino, Macedonia, he lived in Escondido for 30 years.
Mr. Kirovski served in World War II. A talented musician, Jovan played the accordion in dozens of festive Yugoslavian weddings. Jovan immigrated to the United States in 1967. He always said, "Life is beautiful and brief; eat, drink and be merry." He took pride in his citizenship. He took greatest pride in his family. Jovan was a gentle soul with a generous heart.
Mr. Kirovski is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jelica; his sons and daughters-in-law of Escondido, Zivko and Ubavka Kirovski and Tom and Lena Kirovski. His daughter and son-in-law of Escondido, Fidanka and Lazo Simovski; daughter and son-in-law of Yugoslavia, Ljubinka and Mitcho Bankovich; and eight grandchildren.
A viewing is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. and rosary recited at 7 p.m. Monday, June 4, at St. Petka's Serbian Orthodox Church, 1850 Knob Hill Road in San Marcos. A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, at St. Petka's Church. Graveside service will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park at 2640 Glenridge Road in Escondido.
Gregory Michaelis, 49
ESCONDIDO - Gregory A. Michaelis, 49, died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at Palomar Medical Center.
Born May 22, 1952, in Ohio, he lived in Escondido for 28 years. He collected baseball cards and race cars. He enjoyed restoring cars.
Mr. Michaelis is survived by his father, William L. Michaelis of Escondido; brothers and sisters-in-law Bill and Ronnda Michaelis of Poway and Lenny and Terry Michaelis of San Diego; nephews Paul Michaelis, Brad Michaelis and Todd Neuman.

ESCONDIDO - Gilbert Estupinan, 51, died Monday, May 28, 2001, at Scripps Mercy Hospital of heart failure.
Born July 8, 1949, in Yuma, Ariz., he lived in Escondido for 16 years. He was self-employed.
Mr. Estupinan was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Isabel Estupinan. He is survived by his son, Gilbert Estupinan of Yuma; brother Manuel Estupinan of Los Angeles; sister and brother-in-law Theresa and Joe Gomez of Escondido; niece Rebecca Price; and nephew Joseph Gomez, both of Escondido.
A private cremation and scattering at sea is planned.

SAN MARCOS - Sebastiana "Ann" Lorello, 82, died.
Born March 5, 1919, in New York City, she lived in San Marcos for 18 years. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church and Women's Guild.
Mrs. Lorello was preceded in death by her husband, Sebastiano "Charlie" Lorello, on May 23, 1994. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Sal and Judy Lorello of Midlothian, Va., and Chuck and Linda Lorello of Santa Monica; grandchildren Joe Troccoli, John Troccoli, Vince and Lynda Troccoli, Tiffany Hunt, Ryan Lorello, Waverly Lorello and Mario Lorello; and two great-grandchildren.

BONSALL - Henry Cline Smith, 75, died Thursday, May 24, 2001, of natural causes.
Born Feb. 23, 1926, in Hanford, he lived in Bonsall for 17 years. He was the former owner of Long Beach Neon for 30 years and was an avocado grower for 15 years.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a founding member of Jugs Men's Golf Club in San Luis Rey Downs.
Mr. Smith is survived by his sons, Henry Cline Smith III of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Ronald Vaughn Smith of Bellflower; daughter Linda Marie Smith of Bonsall; brothers Arthur Smith, James Vaughn and Emil "Butch" Chabrouland, all of Fresno County; grandchildren Jason M. Smith and Dionne A. Martin; and two great-grandchildren.
A private cremation is planned with interment at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 9, at Clovis District cemetery in Clovis.

ESCONDIDO - Donna L. White, 69, died Friday, June 1, 2001, at her home.
Born Nov. 20, 1931, in Illinois, she lived in Escondido for 38 years. She retired in 1998 from North County Transit District.
Mrs. White was preceded in death by her son, Perry White, on Sept. 26, 1988, and daughter Tina White, on Sept. 15, 1994. She is survived by her son, Tim White of Escondido; daughters Michelle White and Melanie Chapman, both of Escondido; brothers and sisters-in-law Robert A. and Patricia Bauer of Illinois, and Ralph W. and Geraldine Bauer of Escondido; sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Jerry Jarosz of Illinois; and grandchildren Daniel, Wendy, Troy and Lynette.

Grant is survived by his mother, Darla Reed of Poway; father Guy Plouffe of Poway; grandparents Ed and Ruby Reed of El Cajon and Marc and Gerry Plouffe of Edmonton, Canada; and sister Savannah Reed-Plouffe of Poway.

Born Dec. 13, 1948, in Akron, Ohio, he lived in Vista for two years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart medals.

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. - Laura Mae Jones, 82, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001.
Mrs. Jones lived in Escondido for many years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Watkins Glen and Escondido, Methodist Women of Escondido U.M.C. and Federated Women's Club of Escondido.
She is survived by her husband, Edward M. Jones of Watkins Glen; daughter and son-in-law Kimiko Warner and Ben Broder of S. Pasadena; and granddaughters Lauren Broder and Naomi Broder.
Interment is at Pomona Valley Memorial Park in Pomona.
