Zilpha Clarkson, 82
CARLSBAD - Zilpha Edith Clarkson, 82, died of natural causes Tuesday, May 29, 2001.
Born April 5,1919 in Aiken Tex., she was a resident of Carlsbad for 42 years. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Carlsbad for 30 years, provided day care for 20 years, and especially enjoyed working with youths.
Mrs. Clarkson was preceded in death by her husband, Bertie Harvey Clarkson. she is survived by her sons, Ken Harris of Rowland Heights and Jack Busch of San Marcos; daughters Donna Harris of Rowland Heights, Alice Busch of San Marcos, and Carol Mills of Pico Rivera; brothers Glen Stevenson and Oral Gibson of Kansas City, Mo.; sister Angelee Gibson; eighteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-granchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
A Visitation will be held from 12 to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2001 at 3780 Pio Pico, Carlsbad. A funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. followed by interment in Eternal Hills Memorial Park.
Eternal Hills is handling the arrangements.

Clyde Edgar, 73
VALLEY CENTER - Clyde Richard Edgar, 73, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at his home.
Born June 24, 1927, in Colorado Springs, Colo., he was a resident of Valley Center for 30 years. He was employed by the U. S Navy in Data Processing. He was a member of the Elks #1687, Fleet Reserve #270, and American Legion #149.
Mr. Edgar is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Edgar of Valley Center; sons and daughters-in-law Clyde R. and Gracie Edgar, Jr., of Phoenix, Ariz., and Michael J. and Janie Edgar of Imperial Beach; son Thomas R. Edgar of Valley Center; daughter and son-in-law Bettylou and Bill Bradley of Wildomar; daughter Virginia Lee Shuey of San Diego; three brothers, two sisters, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
There will be a private cremation with private memorial services will be held at a later date.
California Funeral Alternatives Escondido is handling arrangements.

Harold Stroh, 79
OCEANSIDE - Harold Stroh, 79, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at his home.
Born December 31, 1921 in the Bronx, N.Y., he was a resident of Oceanside for 6 1/2 years. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. Before his retirement, he was a tool and die designer for Northrup Grumman.
Mr. Stroh was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Lauren Tincup, who died in 1995. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jean Stroh of Oceanside; Son and daughter-in-law David and Pat Stroh of Northport, N.Y.; daughter and son-in-law Karen and Bill Tincup of Carlsbad; sister-in-law Audrey Stroh of Texas; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
At the request of the deceased, no service will be held. There will be a private cremation.
The family suggests donations to the American Heart Association, 3640 Fifth Avenue, San Diego, CA 92101.
Eternal Hills is handling the arrangements.

Lucy Rotkiewicz, 48
RANCHO PENASQUITOS - Lucy Rose Rotkiewicz, 48, died Thursday, May 24, 2001 at her home.
Born May 24, 1953, in Hartford, Conn., she was a resident of Rancho Penasquitos for 20 years. She was an Executive Administrative Assistant at Agouron Pharmaceuticals.
Ms. Rotkiewicz was preceded in death by her father, Leon Rotkiewicz, who died in 1982. She is survived by her mother, Stella Rotkiewicz of Wethersfield, Conn., sister and brother-in-law Christine and Christopher Cheney of Wethersfield, Conn., and nephews Michael and Eric Cheney of Wethersfield, Conn.
Services will be held in Hartford, Conn., with inurnment in Cedar Hill cemetery in Hartford, Conn.
Poway Bernardo Mortuary is handling arrangements.

Elizabeth Ecker, 77
CARLSBAD - Elizabeth G. Ecker, 77, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, in Carlsbad.
Born November 10, 1923, in Connecticut, she was a resident of Carlsbad for 34 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Oceanside and a 21 year member of Beta Sigma Phi. Her hobbies were sewing, shopping and visiting friends.
Mrs. Ecker is survived by her husband of 42 years, Marque Ecker of Carlsbad; son Karl Ecker of Encinitas, one niece and one nephew.
A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m., June 7, 2001, at The Seventh Day Adventist Church on California Street in Oceanside. Chaplain Gary Rogers of Vitas Hospice will preside. Entombment in Eternal Hills Memorial Park is pending.

Paul Krotje, 73
SAN MARCOS - Paul Krotje, 73, died Saturday, May 26, 2001, at Silverado Senior Living in Escondido.
Born Oct. 19, 1927, in Goshen, N.Y., he lived in San Marcos for 13 years. He had been a supervisor for Orange County Typesetting and retired on April 1, 1988, after 20 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II as a corporal. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Escondido and the North County Aviculturists.
Mr. Krotje is survived by his wife of 52 years, Hazel Krotje of San Marcos, sons Douglas Jay Krotje of San Marcos, Brian Leigh Krotje of San Marcos and Darryl Jon Krotje of Nine Mile Falls, Wash.; brother Jacob Krotje of Newton, N.J.; sister-in-law Marjorie Krotje of La Fayette, N.J.; sister Elizabeth Krotje of Golden, Colo.; grandchildren Vanessa Nicole, Jacob Roger, Ashley Allison, Zachary Alan and Spenser Jon; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, June 4, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Escondido with the Rev. James Rauch officiating. A private family inurnment will take place at San Marcos cemetery with the Rev. Rauch officiating.
The family suggests memorial donations to the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Escondido Endowment Fund, 1500 S. Juniper St., Escondido, CA 92025 or the American Cancer Society, 8880 Rio San Diego, Suite 100, San Diego, CA 92108.

Cora Smith, 98
OCEANSIDE - Cora Agnes Smith, 98, died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at Life Care Center in Vista.
Born March 31, 1903, in Quincey, Mass., she lived in Oceanside for 37 years. She was a homemaker for 70 years and a member of San Luis Rey Homes Grandmother's Club.
Ms. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Norman Smith, in 1994. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Harold Norman and Barbara Smith of Reedley, Robert Wesley Smith of Oceanside and Arthur Edward and Edna Smith of Oceanside; niece Cora Limp of San Diego; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
A private cremation and private family services are planned.

Michael Travis, 63
ESCONDIDO - Michael M. Travis, 63, died Monday, May 28, 2001.
Born Sept. 17, 1937, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, he lived in Escondido for 45 years. He retired in 2000 as an auto mechanic. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed golf.
Mr. Travis was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Travis, in October 2000. He is survived by his son Michael J. Travis of Arlington, Texas; daughter and son-in-law Vicki S. and Richard Greene of Austin, Texas; sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Richard Morales of Santee; grandchildren Ryan Greene, A.J. Greene, Julie Travis and Jennifer Travis.
Interment will be at a later date at Fort Rosecrans National cemetery in Point Loma.
The family suggests memorial donations to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Mission Valley, 4370 Twain Ave., San Diego, CA 92120.
North County Cremation Service, San Marcos, is handling arrangements.

Jack Nichols, 81
OCEANSIDE - Jack Nichols, 81, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at Whittier Hospital.
Born Dec. 5, 1919, in Los Angeles, he lived in Oceanside for 18 years. He was an entrepreneur and did work for C.F. Trucking before his retirement. He was a volunteer for the Oceanside Police Department. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and the Navy during World War II. He enjoyed the outdoors and gardening.
Mr. Nichols was preceded in death by his wife, Vera, in 1999. He is survived by his children Edward Nichols of Medford, Ore., Jack Nichols Jr., of Medford and Linda Nichols of Signal Hill; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Burial and funeral services were held Saturday, May 26, at the Russian Molokan cemetery in Montebello.

William Peck, 79
ESCONDIDO - William Gordon Peck, 79, died Saturday, May 26, 2001.
Born Jan. 16, 1922, in Salt Lake City, he lived in Escondido for 20 years. He attended Harvard Business School and UCLA from which he graduated. He was an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired in 1981 from Lockheed Aircraft as a CPA on the controller's staff.
Mr. Peck is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ginger Peck; sons and daughters-in-law Terry and Nancy Peck, Craig and Ellen Peck , Randy and Madeline Peck and Kevin and Mary Peck, all of Los Angeles; and five grandsons.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 3, at Emmanuel Faith Community church.
A private cremation is planned.
The family suggests memorial donations to Sharp Hospice Care Fund, PO Box 3739, La Mesa, CA 9144-3739.

Harry Cook, 82 3/4
ESCONDIDO - Harry E. Cook, 82 3/4, died Sunday, May 27, 2001.
Born Aug. 21, 1918, in Los Angeles, retired from Escondido Unified School District, on Aug. 13, 2000. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He will be remembered by most Escondido school children as "Donald Duck" because of his trademark imitation of the famous Disney character. Mr. Cook was also a former trapeeze artist with Matthews Brothers Circus.
Mr. Cook was preceded in death by his two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Cook of Escondido; sons and daughters-in-law Doug and Linda Cook of Escondido and Greg and Kathy Cook of Lakewood; daughter and son-in-law Beverly and Gary Atkins; and grandchildren Gregory, Kristin, Allie, Joey, Danny, Robin, and Brian "Dogmeat" Cook.
Viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 1, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary. A funeral service is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 2, at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Robert B. Davis officiating.
The family suggests memorial donations to Mountain Shadows Support Group, 2067 W. El Norte Pkwy, Escondido, CA 92026.

Wayne Hamilton Goff
1977 - 2001
Wayne Goff, 24, most recently of St. Joseph, Miss., was killed in a motor vehicle accident on May 22, 2001. He was riding his motorcycle, on of his joys in life.
Wayne was born in Story City, Iowa on February 24, 1977, but spend most of his life as a "Navy Brat." San Diego, Cal., Washington, D.C., Charleston, S.C. and the world were his.
A born again Christian, Wayne lived his life by "Faith alone in Jesus Christ" and had a tattoo with a cross and the words "Faith Alone." He was a member of Emmanuel Faith community Church, Escondido.
Wayne was a renaissance man. Writing, surfing, motorcycling, and drumming were his passions. Speech was his gift. He was California State Speech Champion for Extemporaneous Speaking in 1994.
Most recently he was a Junior at Missouri Western State College and worked part-time at Burger Kind. Wayne spend a year as an assistant service manager at Anderson Ford in St. Joseph, Mo. Before arriving in St. Joseph he attended the University of California, Santa Barbara.
He was dearly loved by Christ, by his family and by many friends.
He is survived by his parents, Dr. Walter B. Goff II and Sandra E. (Geyer) Goff of San Diego; his sister Tiara Elizabeth Kruse, her husband Gerald Allen Kruse III and their children Savannah an Wendy Kathleen of Camp Pendleton, Cal., and his maternal grandmother, Kathryn E. Geyer of St. Joseph.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Frankie C. Geyer and his paternal grandparents, Dr. Walker B. and Patricia Evelyn Goff.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 2, at Emmanuel Faith Community Church in Escondido. Mr. Goff will be cremated following the service. The family suggest memorial gifts to the Emmanuel Faith Community Church, 639 E. Felicita, Escondido, Cal. 92025.

Lucille DePorter, 86
RANCHO BERNARDO - Lucille Jean DePorter, 86, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, in San Diego.
Born Dec. 2, 1914, in Wilburton, Okla., she lived in Rancho Bernardo for 35 years. She was a homemaker for 63 years. She received her RN training at St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., in the mid 1930s. She was a "Pink Lady" at Palomar Medical Center from 1968 to 1993. She enjoyed reading and gardening.
Mrs. DePorter was preceded in death by her son, Joseph DePorter, in 1963. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Desire DePorter of Rancho Bernardo; sons and daughter-in-law Dee and Christi DePorter of LaQuinta and Richard DePorter of Escondido; daughters Helen DePorter of Portland, Ore., and Suzanne DePorter of Las Vegas; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, June 4, at Poway Bernardo Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. William Mooney of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Poway officiating. A private inurnment is planned.

Arthur Ferrin Sr., 73
ESCONDIDO - Arthur Eugene Ferrin Sr., 73, died Monday, May 28, 2001, at his home.
Born Aug. 17, 1927, in Buffalo, N.Y., he lived in Escondido for four years. He was a security guard at Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He served in the U.S. Army and Navy.
Mr. Ferrin is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law Mark Ferrin of Burbank and Gary and Kathy Ferrin of Rosemead; daughters and son-in-law Tammy and Daniel Hutchinson of Escondido and Cathi Cardin of Santa Barbara; brother and sister-in-law Dale and Robin Ferrin of Fontana; sister and brother-in-law Ohma and Paul Kee of New York; grandchildren Stephanie Hutchinson, Ian Hutchinson, Jack Hutchinson, Brandon Ferrin, Christina Ferrin, Kimberly Ferrin and Eric Hinderliter; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 4, at Mountain View cemetery in Altadena.

Jovan Kirovski, 77
ESCONDIDO - Jovan Kirovski, 77, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001.
Born Jan. 2, 1924, in Siricino, Macedonia, he lived in Escondido for 30 years. He prepared food for Charlie's Family Restaurant in Escondido and retired in 1999. He played the accordion for many festive Yugoslavian weddings.
Mr. Kirovski is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jelica Kirovski of Escondido; sons and daughters-in-law Zivko and Ubavka Kirovski of Escondido and Tom and Lena Kirovski of Escondido; daughters and sons-in-law Fidanka and Lazo Simovski of Escondido and Ljubinka and Mitcho Bankovich, of Yugoslavia; and eight grandchildren.
Viewing is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. with rosary recited at 7 p.m. Monday, June 4, at St. Petka's Serbian Orthodox Church in San Marcos. A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, at St. Petka's Serbian Orthodox Church in San Marcos. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

David Hailand, 55
ESCONDIDO - David Arthur Hailand, 55, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001.
Born July 30, 1945, in Vallejo, he lived in Escondido for 10 years. He worked 33 years for the U.S. Department of the Navy, most recently as a fleet system's engineer and manager of RLBTS at SPAWAR System Center in San Diego. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. On March 2, 2001, he was honored by Brother's Keeper Ministries where he served on the board of directors.
Mr. Hailand is survived by his wife of nine years, Lynda Hailand of Escondido; mother Margaret Hailand of Escondido; daughters and sons-in-law Amy and Robert Rueger of Victorville and Laura and Breven Clark of Adelanto; sister and brother-in-law Brandy and Colin Holmes of San Mateo; grandchildren Derek, Kali, Corinne, Alexandra, Devin, Rylee, Bryan, Bryanne, Brittany, Teagan, Jordan and Chloe; and step-grandchildren Robin, Christi, Bryan, Brandon and Krista and Todd and Tisha.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. today, June 2, at Emmanuel Faith Community Church with the Revs. Scott Last and Greg Lane officiating. Graveside service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, June 4, at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
