Neil Norris, 88
VALLEY CENTER - Neil Sterling Norris, 88, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000.
Born Nov. 20, 1911, in Leoti, Kan., he lived in Valley Center for 47 years. He was a self-employed carpenter, helping to build five churches in North County and retiring in 1997. He was a deacon at Valley Baptist Church in Valley Center and a member of the school board at Escondido Christian Training School for 25 years.
Mr. Norris is survived by his wife of 56 years, Hanni M. Norris of Valley Center; daughters and sons-in-law Ruth H. and Tom Abbott of Mesa, Ariz., Katherine F. and Duane Jones and Virginia J. and Les Schlect, all of Loveland, Colo., Mary Lou Norris of Escondido, Judy A. and Randall Harmon of Valley Center; brothers Harry Norris of Vail, Ariz.; sisters Clara Jessogne of Pueblo, Colo., and Sara Mae Jones of Enumclaw, Wash.; and grandchildren David D. Jones and Deborah K. Dunlevy.
A private visitation will be held today, July 27, at Olive Branch Christian Fellowship in Valley Center (formerly Valley Baptist Church). A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the church, with Gary Endermann officiating. Interment will take place at 3 p.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Roger Glaser, 59
SAN MARCOS - Roger Byron Glaser, Ph.D., 59, died Sunday, July 23, 2000, in San Diego, while playing tennis.
Born May 25, 1941, in Pittsburgh, he lived in San Marcos for 23 years. He was a schedule administrator for the project services team at San Diego Gas & Electric. He was a PMI Fellow, former PMI president and chair and vice president of public relations. He was a college professor and a member of USTA. He coached tennis leagues and taught underprivileged children to play tennis.
Dr. Glaser was preceded in death by his mother and father, Alice and Arthur Glaser. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Joan R. Glaser of San Marcos; son Roger Byron Glaser Jr. of San Marcos; daughters and sons-in-law Dana Suzanne Glaser of Apple Valley, Kimberly Anne and Timothy Clark of San Marcos and Tammara Lynn and Paul Burress of Scripps Ranch; brother Alan Glaser of Pittsburgh; sister and brother-in-law Joyce and Micheal Domyancic of Pittsburgh; grandchildren Brooke Ashley Clark and Allyson Teresa Burress; nieces Rene Domyancic and Denise Domyancic, both of Pittsburgh and Lisa Domyancic Hilliard of Sacramento; and nephew Mathew Domyancic of Pittsburgh.
Viewing will be held at 6 p.m. today, July 28, at the First United Methodist Church in Escondido. A memorial service will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 29, at the church. Burial will follow at noon at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Samuel Eckard, 80
ESCONDIDO - Samuel C. Eckard, 80, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, in Escondido.
Born Feb. 4, 1920, in W.Va., he lived in Escondido. He served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Eckard was preceded in death by his son, Stanley S. Eckard. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marion Eckard of Escondido; sons Earl W. Eckard of Escondido and Samuel P. Eckard of Temecula; daughters Alice M. Kennison of Dulzura, Shirley Brooks of Vista and Margaret SwittenBank of Virginia; 22 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held Thursday, July 27, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. A funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. today, July 28, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. Burial will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Jack Brown, 72
CARLSBAD - Jack Brown, 72, died Wednesday, July 19, 2000, from complications of glandular cancer, at his home. Born Aug. 6, 1927, in Los Angeles, he lived in Carlsbad. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946 and attended Los Angeles City College, earning an associate of science degree, and UCLA, graduating in 1950 with a bachelor of science degree. He was the assistant political writer for the Los Angeles Examiner from 1960 to 1962 and political editor from 1970 to 1977. He was the executive assistant for Los Angeles Mayor Sam Yorty. He spent four years as associate publisher of Metropolitan News and was cofounder of Western Outdoors Publications, editing Western Outdoors magazine, a fishing publication in Costa Mesa, until his retirement in 1999. He served on the board of directors of the Outdoor Writers of California from 1990 to 1991 and was founding president of the Society of Outdoor Magazine Editors from 1990 to 1991.
Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his son, Gregg Richard Brown; He is survived by his wife, Lynn E. Brown; sons Jeffrey Loren Brown of Palmdale and Jack Brown Jr. of Tujunga; stepson Eric Johannsen of Vienna, Austria; daughter Jan Patrice Brown of Oxnard; and stepdaughters Julia and Rebecca Johannsen of San Diego; first wife Arlyne Reddick Brown of Oxnard; and second wife Patricia Willard of Washington, D.C.
A private cremation was held and his ashes were scattered in waters off La Jolla on Thursday, July 27, off the sportfisher Electra, with Chaplain Ted Johnson officiating.
The family suggests memorial donations to Outdoor Writers Association of California, 3515 Landsford Way, Carlsbad, CA 92008; Hospice of the North Coast, 5421 Avenida Encinas, Suite N, Carlsbad, CA 92008; Cal Poly Landscape Architecture Department, San Luis Obispo, c/o Lynn Brown.

Donald Costello, 60
OCEANSIDE - Donald W. Costello, 60, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at Mission Bay Hospital in San Diego.
Born Dec. 23, 1939, in Columbus, Ohio, he lived in Oceanside for 25 years. He served in the U.S. Navy for more than 20 years before retiring as a CPO, E-8. He was a U.S. Costa Guard Auxiliary member and a member of Pacific Church of Religious Science.
Mr. Costello is survived by his wife of 25 years, Carol Costello of Oceanside; mother and father Muzzy and Thomas Coleman of Philadelphia; son Aaron Costello of Chula Vista; daughter Mellena Schumm of Jamul; sisters Darrell Scurry of Atlanta, Lynnette Coleman Butler of Philadelphia and Beverly Coleman Miller of Washington, D.C.; and grandchildren Matthew and Dylan Costello and Traeanna and Kaitlynn Schumm.
A celebration of life will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, in Chula Vista, with Aaron Costello officiating. No service will be held at the request of the deceased. A private cremation is planned.

Brittany Kirklen, infant
POWAY - Brittany Ann Kirklen was stillborn on Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at Pomerado Hospital in Poway.
Brittany is survived by her mother and father, Robin and Jim Kirklen of Escondido; brothers Brandon Ray Kirklen and Bryce James Kirklen, both of Escondido; sister Breanna Kelly Kirklen of Escondido; grandparents Analou Miller of La Mesa and Ray and Pat Miller of Rancho Bernardo; great-great-grandmother Irene Miller of Lee Summit, Mo.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 30, at Emmanuel Faith Community Church main sanctuary, with the Rev. Greg Lane officiating. A private interment is planned.
The family suggests memorial donations to Emmanuel Faith Community Church, 639 E. Felicita Ave., Escondido, CA 92025.

Joe Dagne, 76
FALLBROOK - Joe "Jay" Harold Dagne, 76, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000, of cancer, at his home.
Born Sept. 7, 1928, in Los Angeles, he lived in Fallbrook. He graduated from USC and worked as an accountant before retiring. He served in the U.S. Navy as a bombardier during World War II and was a member of the Fallbrook Vintage Car Club and the Fallbrook Toastmasters.
Mr. Dagne is survived by his wife, Audrey Dagney of Fallbrook; stepson Dave Maruca of Fallbrook; stepdaughter Sandy Maruca of Fallbrook; son Doug Dagne of Desert Hot Springs; daughter Diana Dagne of North Hollywood; and stepgranddaughter Chelsea of Fallbrook.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, July 26, at the Fallbrook Women's Club.

Robert O'Conner, 79
POWAY - Robert "Bob" Charles O'Conner, 79, died Thursday, July 20, 2000.
Born May 31, 1921, in St. Louis, he lived in Poway since 1949. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, surviving the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He owned and operated Poway Equipment Rental for more than 20 years.
Mr. O'Conner is survived by his wife, Teddy O'Connor; daughters Sharon Wright of Poway and Colleen Mans of Poway; son Bob O'Connor of Ramona; sisters Colleen Healey and Rita Gabel of Missouri; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
No service is planned.
The family suggests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, 12405 Rancho Bernardo Road, Suite 100, San Diego, CA 92128; or the American Diabetes Association, 225 Broadway, Suite 310, San Diego, CA 92101.

Dennis Wheeland, 35
SAN DIEGO - Dennis Dean "Denny" Wheeland, 35, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, in San Diego.
Born May 15, 1965, in Escondido, he lived in San Diego County for 15 years. He attended Escondido High School and was an apartment manager.
Mr. Wheeland was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ralph and Esther Wheeland, uncles James "Jimmy" Staley and Everett "Buddy" Staley. He is survived by his father, Ron Wheeland of Kansas; mother and stepfather Linda and Greg Glover of Escondido; sister Rhonda Bongirno of Escondido; nephew Michael Bongirno of Escondido; niece Destiny Bongirno of Escondido; grandmother Gail Rogers of Oceanside; aunts Jan Ross of Escondido, Judy Staley of Oceanside and Sandra Staley of Meadow, Utah; uncle Bob Wheeland of Escondido and Ken Wheeland of Topanga.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 30, at Rod McLeod Park on Iris Lane in Escondido.

Leona Kaminsky, 87
SUN CITY - Leona Regina Kaminsky, 87, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at Manor Care Health Services in Hemet.
Born July 17, 1913, in Colliey, Pa., she lived in Sun City for 10 years. She was a clerk for Jewel Tea Co. in Anaheim for 17 years. She was a member of the Sun Meadows Fun Group.
Mrs. Kaminsky was preceded in death by her husband, Francis G. Kaminsky. She is survived by her son, Glenn Kaminsky of Longmont, Colo.; brother Gordon Tubach of Forkville, Pa.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church. Inurnment will take place with her late husband at Holy Sepulcher cemetery in Orange.
The family suggests memorial donations to the American Institute of Cancer Research, 1759 R. St., N.W. Washington, D.C. 20009.

OCEANSIDE - Carlos Humberto Chavez, 80, died Monday, July 24, 2000, at an Oceanside resthome.
Born June 20, 1920, in Mexico, he lived in Oceanside for 27 years.
Mr. Humberto is survived by his wife, Concepcion Chavez of Oceanside; son William Court of Alameda; and uncle Francisco Chavez of Guatemala City.
Visitation will be held from 3:30 to 8 p.m. today, July 27, at Encinitas Chapel. A Mass will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m. Friday, at Mission San Luis Rey Parish Chapel. A private cremation is planned.

Otto Alfred "Bud" Osuna, 73
VISTA - Otto Alfred "Bud" Osuna, 73, died Monday, July 24, 2000, of cancer, at his home.
Born Sept. 15, 1926, in Oceanside, he lived in North San Diego County his entire life. He was a self-employed grading and excavating contractor for more than 40 years before retiring and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Bud was an avid fisherman for most of his adult life. He was a sixth generation Californian.
Mr. Osuna is survived by his son, Fred Osuna of Birmingham, Ala.; daughters and son-in-law Nancy Osuna Tezza and Mark Tezza of Mount Pleasant, S.C., and Tricia Osuna of Redondo Beach; grandchildren Matthew Tezza, Nicholas Tezza and Andrew Tezza; brother Jack Osuna of Carlsbad; and sister Barbara Osuna Lange of Oceanside.
A memorial Mass will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 29, at Mission San Luis Rey Parish Chapel. A private cremation is planned.

Robert Haehl, 61
LAS VEGAS - Robert Haehl Jr., 61, died Thursday, July 20, 2000, in Las Vegas.
Born Dec. 23, 1938, in Toledo, Ohio, he lived in Poway for 25 years. He worked for the San Diego Fire Department for 25 years, served as a bus driver for the Poway Unified School District and as president of the Poway High Band Boosters for two terms.
Mr. Haehl is survived by his companion, Penny Quintero of Las Vegas; daughters Katherine Haehl of Temecula, Barbara Foster of Marble Canyon, Ariz., Pamela Haehl of Escondido, Jennifer MacDonald of Poway and Patrice Quintero of Colorado Springs, Colo.; former wife Sharon Haehl of Poway, parents Robert Sr. and Fannie Haehl of San Diego; sisters Nancy Badejo and Sue Warner, both of California, and Joyce Clark of Las Vegas.

William Carrigan, 68
MURRIETA - William Joseph Carrigan, 68, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, of respiratory failure at Rancho Springs Medical Center in Murrieta.
Born Aug. 5, 1931, in Los Angeles, he lived in Murrieta for seven years. He worked as an investigator, a sergeant in the Sheriff's Department and a public defender, all in Los Angeles County, for 33 years. He served in the U.S. Army for three years.
Mr. Carrigan is survived by his wife, Barbara Carrigan of Murrieta; sons and daughter-in-law Bill and June Carrigan of San Dimas and Charles Carrigan of Glendora; daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Dennis Corbett of Irvine; brother Tom Carrigan of San Gabriel; and grandchildren Jim, Erin and Steve Corbett of Irvine and Emily Carrigan of San Dimas.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 30, at Valley Funeral Home in Murrieta. A graveside service is scheduled for Monday, July 31, at Riverside National Cemetery, Staging Area 4.

Garry Meyer, 60
MURRIETA - Garry N. Meyer, 60, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, of cancer, at his home.
Born Feb. 23, 1940, in Danbury, Iowa, he lived in Murrieta for 10 years. He graduated from Danbury Catholic High School in 1958 and was the manager for Karltons Clothing in Sioux City, Iowa, for 35 years before retiring. He loved fishing and hunting and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Lake Elsinore Lodge and St. Martha's Catholic Church.
Visitation was held Friday, July 28, at Stout Family Funeral Home. A rosary was recited, following visitation, at the mortuary. A Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. today, July 29, at St. Martha's Catholic Church. Burial will take place Thursday, Aug. 3, at Graceland Park cemetery in Sioux City.

Warren Bradley, 79
WILDOMAR - Warren G. Bradley, 79, died Thursday, June 29, 2000, at his home.
Born Oct. 16, 1920, in Oklahoma, he lived in Wildomar for 1 1/2 years. He owned San Diego Nursery Can Supply for 20 years and was a gasoline distributor for Texaco for 15 years.
Mr. Bradley was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Bradley. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Betty Bradley of Wildomar; daughters Ruth Ann Joseph of Las Vegas and Nancy Irene Bradley of Clackamas, Ore.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

James Strickland, 45
LAGUNA BEACH - James William Strickland Jr., 45, died Thursday, July 27, 2000, at South Coast Memorial Hospital in Laguna Beach.
Born March 18, 1955, in Virginia, he lived in Canyon Lake for five years. He was a heavy-machine operator for 21 years, most recently for L.T. Excavating in Laguna Beach. He enjoyed working on cars and computers, playing darts and going to concerts.
Mr. Strickland is survived by his wife, Tamie Strickland of Canyon Lake; daughters Rachelle Strickland of Hemet and Jackie Strickland of Canyon Lake; sons Michael Horak of Canyon Lake and Casey Horak of Lake Elsinore; father James Strickland Sr. of Quail Valley; and brothers Walt Strickland of Apple Valley and Dan Strickland of Quail Valley.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 31, at Evans Brown Sun City Mortuary.
