John Marron, 78
PHOENIX - John I. Marron, 78, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, in Phoenix, from complications after heart surgery.
Born Oct. 17, 1921, in Oceanside, he lived in Phoenix for seven years. He graduated from Escondido High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Marron is survived by his wife, Jessie Crosthwaite of Phoenix; sons Fred P. Marron of Surprise and Dave Marron of Huson, Mont.; daughter Linda M. Mojica of San Marcos; brother Abran J. Marron of Oceanside; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held in Phoenix.
Isaac Arnold, 79
ESCONDIDO - Isaac David "I.D." Arnold Jr., 79, died Friday, July 7, 2000, in Escondido.
Born July 16, 1920, in Sheffield, Ala., he lived in Escondido for 31 years. He was a pipe fitter and plumber for 50 years and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, surviving Pearl Harbor, and the Korean War. He was a volunteer for Interfaith Homeless Shelter.
Mr. Arnold is survived by his wife of 45 years, Bonnie Arnold of Escondido; sons Michael Gray of Little Rock, Ark., and James David Arnold of San Marcos; daughters Shirley Rhodes of Mission Viejo and Sabrina Haaff and Debra Rico, both of Escondido; brother J.C. Arnold of Florence, Ala.; sisters Jewel Hope of Mobile, Ala., and Ilene Wylie of Covina; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, at Valley Center Cemetery.

Margaret Horton, 75
ESCONDIDO - Margaret Horton, 75, died Sunday, July 9, 2000, of leukemia.
Born July 14, 1924, in Los Angeles, she lived in Escondido. She served as principal for Central and Glenview schools and coordinated gifted programs and compensatory education before retiring. She served on the board of the Escondido Community Child Development Center and taught English as a second language to adults. She was a member of North County Rose Society and First Congregational Church.
Mrs. Horton is survived by her husband of 53 years, Charles Horton of Escondido; son John Horton of Cardiff; daughters and sons-in-law Barbara and Jim Neely of Escondido and Sue Horton and Carl Byker of Los Angeles; sister and brother-in-law Viola and Bill Straw of Newport Beach; grandchildren John Horton, Laura Scofield, Ken Cooper, Mike Cooper and Sam Byker; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, at the First Congregational Church on North Broadway in Escondido, with the Rev. Jim Fredette officiating.

Margaret Campbell, 91
ESCONDIDO - Margaret Nan Campbell, 91, died Saturday, July 8, 2000.
Born May 4, 1909, in Watts, she lived in Escondido for 28 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Christian Church and Joslyn Senior Center.
Mrs. Campbell was preceded in death by her first husband of 20 years, Frank B. Lent; her second husband of 18 years, Jack Campbell; son-in-law Fred Ayers; sister Johannabelle Latham; and brothers Richard Allen DeHoag and Horace Allen DeHoag. She is survived by her daughter, Frances Ayers of Escondido; sons and daughters-in-law Thadeus and Dois Adair and John Scott Campbell, all of Santa Barbara, and Carl Sean and LaVonne Lent of Huntington Beach; sister Della Marie Dwyer of Pismo Beach; brother Daniel Baber DeHoag of Denver; grandchildren John Rice of Mira Loma, Margaret Arguelles of Carlsbad, Chris D. Under of Silverado Canyon, Auralee Visser of Escondido, Paula Sue Horton and Teri Everson, both of Santa Barbara, Tad Lent of San Diego and Vance Lent and Gregory Lent, both of Huntington Beach; 19 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, July 12, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary. A graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park, with Abe Marcus officiating.
Rachael Sloan, 82
ESCONDIDO - Rachael S. "Rae" Sloan, 82, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000.
Born Aug. 12, 1917, in Conquest, N.Y., she lived in Escondido for 10 years.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of the Resurrection.
Mrs. Sloan was preceded in death by her first husband, Marcus Denbo; second husband Frank "Yank" Conrad; third husband Kenneth Sloan; brother Frederick Borally; and sister Mildred Steele.
She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Jack Denbo of Las Vegas and Jerry and Marie Denbo of Vista; sisters and brothers-in-law Patricia and Richard Gauch of Virginia and Gloria and Donald DiMaio of Escondido; grandchildren Sandi Rae Seely, Frank J. Denbo, Rob M. Denbo and John N. Denbo; great-grandchildren Katie, Joshua, Tyler and Sarah; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 15, at the Church of the Resurrection, with the Rev. Charles Fuld officiating.
A private inurnment will take place at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.

Joe Guerrero, 73
OCEANSIDE - Joe Xavier Guerrero, 73, died Friday, July 7, 2000, at his home.
Born Jan. 22, 1927, he lived in Oceanside for five years. He was a a general laborer, retiring from Independent Paper Stock.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Mr. Guerrero is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dolores Guerrero of Oceanside; son Alfonso S. Duran of Texas; daughters and son-in-law Nancy and Bill Winterbottom of Oceanside and Janine and Henry Olmos of Alta Loma; brothers and sister-in-law Enrique Guerrero and Ray and Kathy Guerrero, all of Los Angeles; sisters and brothers-in-law Jessie and Rudy Ceniseros and Mercy and Alfred Arredondo, all of Whittier, Martha and Mike Barron of Los Angeles; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 13, at Calvary cemetery in Los Angeles. Burial will follow.
Agnes Diaz, 52
OCEANSIDE - Agnes T. Diaz, 52, died Monday, July 3, 2000, at her home.
Born Sept. 13, 1947, in Guam, she lived in Oceanside for six years. She was a member of Mission San Luis Rey Catholic Church.
Mrs. Diaz is survived by her sisters, June Cosme and Lisa
Diaz, both of Oceanside; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation and viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., with a rosary recited from 7 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 14, at Eternal Hills Chapel. A funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 15, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park. Burial will follow.
Terri Middleton, 39
ESCONDIDO - Terri Ann Middleton, 39, died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, in Escondido.
Born July 27, 1960, in Waterloo, Iowa, she lived in Oregon for nine years and in North County for 20 years.
She worked in property management for 14 years.
Ms. Middleton is survived by her mother and stepfather, Karen and Lee Rauch of Arkansas; father William Havlik of Iowa; stepfather William Cashman of Pasadena; sons Joshua Lindenmeier of Escondido and Travis Fallin of Barstow; and brothers Brett Cashman of Pasadena, Shane Cashman of El Cajon and Troy Lindenmeier of Escondido.
No special service is planned. Her remains will be buried at sea.
Susie Gay, 84
CARLSBAD - Susie Waihinemoku Gay, 84, died Friday, July 7, 2000, at Palomar Medical Center.
Born April 18, 1916, in Honolulu, she lived in Carlsbad for 19 years. She was a clerical supervisor for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, retiring in 1978.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Judy Tripp of Valley Center, Gerald and Pamela Tripp of Waialua, Hawaii, and Reginald and Nancy Gay of Las Vegas; sisters Rachel Chang and Carol Custino, both of Honolulu; 10 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
A private family service will be held at a later date in Hawaii. Her cremains will be scattered off the coast of Oahu.

ESCONDIDO - Chester "Chet" Clemens, 79, died Friday, July 7, 2000, at his home.
Born July 5, 1921, in Jay, Okla., he lived in Escondido for 46 years. He was a mechanic for Quality Chevrolet for 40 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.
Mr. Clemens is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marguerite Clemens of Escondido; sons Donald Paul Clemens and Gary Edward Clemens, both of Escondido; daughter Peggy Geoppinger of Columbia Falls, Mont.; sister Myrtle Ambrose of Silver City, N.M.; and grandchildren Ryan Parrent, Tracy Kaskin, Josh Clemens and Justin Clemens.

VISTA - Frances Carolyn Stcherbinine, 79, died Friday, July 7, 2000, in Vista.
Born Nov. 18, 1920, in Bedford, Ind., she lived in San Diego County for 42 years. she was an assistant foreman for RCA Corporation for six years.
Mrs. Stcherbinine is survived by her husband, Youry A. Stcherbinine of Vista; sons Skip Stcherbinine of Ogden, Utah, and Mike Stcherbinine of Seattle; sisters Marian Seibert of Atlanta and Ruth Evelyn Wray of Bedford, Ind.; and four grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park, with the Rev. Lanny Arrowsmith of Vista United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow.

FALLBROOK - Ray Lee Roles, 80, died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at Fallbrook Hospital.
Born May 7, 1920, in Beloit, Kan., he lived in Fallbrook for 10 years.
He worked for Dalstien Trucking in Beloit for 50 years and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945.
Mr. Roles was preceded in death by his daughter, Dorothy Roles.
He is survived by his son, Charles J. Roles of Escondido; brother Walter Roles of Beloit; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held Monday, July 10, at Berry-Bell & Hall Chapel in Fallbrook.
A funeral service followed at 6 p.m., also at Berry-Bell & Hall Chapel, with Dr. Dennis Ginoza of Fallbrook United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will take place at Elmwood cemetery in Beloit.
Rene Fontaine, 68
OCEANSIDE - Rene G. Fontaine, 68, died Thursday, July 6, 2000, in Oceanside.
Born July 13, 1931, in Pittsfield, Mass., he lived in Oceanside for 20 years. He was a self-employed heating and air-conditioning contractor before retiring in January 1998.
Mr. Fontaine is survived by his wife of 17 years, Patricia Lounibos; son and daughter-in-law Rene G. and Monique Fontaine of Murrieta; daughters and son-in-law Sandra Fontaine and Sharon and David Norling, all of Encinitas; grandchildren Patty, Brenda, Steven, Janae, Shaunna, Jimmy, Rene III, Ryland, Audrianna and Taylor; and great-grandchild Ricky, Ryan, Randy and Cailyn.

William Brinkman, 73
SAN MARCOS - William Herman Brinkman, 73, died Friday, July 7, 2000.
Born Nov. 20, 1926, in Terre Haute, Ind., he lived in San Marcos for three years.
He was a maintenance worker for Hewlett Packard for 10 years and served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Escondido and the Escondido American Legion 149.
Mr. Brinkman is survived by his companion of many years, Vauda Combs of San Marcos; sons Mark Brinkman of California and Paul Brinkman of Escondido; daughters Jean Wold of Valley Center, Mary Promisco of Bozeman, Mont., and Teresa Windsor of La Quinta; sister Edith Cottrel of Austin, Texas; and seven grandchildren.
A rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 13, at the Resurrection Church. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at the church.

OCEANSIDE - Walter Clyde Schultz, 88, died Thursday, July 6, 2000, in Vista.
Born April 11, 1912, in Halifax, Novia Scotia, Canada, he lived in Oceanside for 36 years.
He worked for General Motors Corp. before retiring and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, stationed in Italy with the 15th Air Force.
Mr. Schultz is survived by his wife of 67 years, Irene Schultz of Oceanside; son Michael Schultz of Idyllwild; brothers Gerald Schultz of Halifax and Fred Schultz of Canada; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
No service will be held at the request of the deceased. A private cremation is planned.

Marek of Moreno Valley; and great-grandmothers Ruby Ezola of Idaho and Elizabeth Oldaker of La Habra.
