Bob Betts, 61
ESCONDIDO - Bob Betts, 61, died Monday, July 3, 2000, of a heart attack, in Fair Oaks.
Born Aug. 1, 1938, in Salt Lake City, he lived in Escondido for 28 years. He was a software engineer for NCR Corporation for 29 years and was the head supervisor for the city of Escondido Adult Softball program for 23 years.
Mr. Betts is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ann Betts of Escondido; mother Dorine Betts of Laguna Hills; sons and daughters-in-law Kirk and Robin Betts of Escondido, Robby and Teresa Betts of Fair Oaks and Rick and Valerie Betts of Danville; daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Jon Alegria of Escondido; brother and sister-in-law John and Patty Betts of Catskill, N.Y.; sisters and brother-in-law Diane and Thadd Pippin of Lake Arrowhead and Sue Murray of Mission Viejo; and grandchildren Brent Tyler, Austin, Vanessa, Brian, Cameron and Baylee.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 15, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Escondido, with Bishop Kirk Betts officiating. A private cremation is planned.

Hazel Underwood, 90
ESCONDIDO - Hazel Mary Underwood, 90, died Thursday, July 6, 2000, in Escondido.
Born March 10, 1910, in Poway, she lived in Escondido for 49 years. She was director of medical records for Palomar Medical Center for 27 years.
Mrs. Underwood is survived by her husband of 31 years, Paul T. Underwood of Escondido; stepsons and daughter-in-law Warren C. Underwood of Oceanside, Michael and Laura Underwood of Apple Valley and Steven J. Underwood of Durango, Colo.; daughters and sons-in-law Marilyn and Carl Rush of woodland, Kathryn and Richard Gehring of Chula Vista and June Rady and Joanne Corley and Richard Mendez, all of Escondido sisters Hester Lacy of Escondido, Florence Cooper of Atascadero and Frances Harlow of Redding; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, at Grace Lutheran Church in Escondido, with the Rev. James Young officiating. Burial will follow at Dearborn Memorial Park in Poway.
The family suggests memorial donations to Elizabeth Hospice, 150 W. Crest St., Escondido, CA 92025.

Norman Singletary, 30
OCEANSIDE - Norman A. Singletary, 30, died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, in Lubbock, Texas.
Born Oct. 23, 1969, in Lubbock, he lived in Oceanside for 15 years. He worked for Schumacher Air Products and served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1987 to 1993.
Mr. Singletary is survived by his companion of one year, Sakita Robinson of Oceanside; mother Lavonne Maxwell of Denver; sons and daughters-in-law Adonis Singletary and Alicia Singletary, both of Japan, and Ashley Singletary of Texas; and sister Deidra Wooley of Lubbock.
Viewing will be held at noon Tuesday, July 11, in Lubbock. Burial will follow. A private memorial service will be held the week of July 10 in Oceanside. Family and friends only, please call Diane Montanez at (760) 945-4618.

Donald Scott, 66
OCEANSIDE - Donald A. Scott, 66, died Friday, July 7, 2000, in Oceanside.
Born Dec. 27, 1933, in Philadelphia, he lived in Oceanside. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and worked for North County Transit District, retiring in 1997. He was a member of the Second Missionary Baptist Church Brotherhood and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Scott was preceded in death by two brothers.
He is survived by his son, Donald Scott Jr. of Oceanside; daughter Laura Knight of Oceanside; brothers James Scott and Charles Scott, both of Pennsylvania; sister Sonya Shepard of Pennsylvania; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 15, at Second Missionary Baptist Church in Oceanside. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church, with the Rev. Charles E. Price officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Feasterville, Pa.

Sigmund Cywar, 82
VISTA - Sigmund Cywar, 82, died Sunday, July 9, 2000, in Oceanside.
Born Sept. 1, 1917, in New Jersey, he lived in Vista. He was self-employed, retiring in 1988. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Cywar was preceded in death by two brothers and son Gary Cywar. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Elizabeth Cywar of Vista; sons and daughter-in-law Alan and Bea Cywar of Oceanside and Roger Cywar; daughters and son-in-law Cynthia and Randy Edginton of Utah and Diane Kennedy of Fallbrook; and five grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 14, at Eternal Hills Mortuary.

A. Ward Copley, 74
CARLSBAD - A. Ward Copley, 74, died Saturday, July 8, 2000, in Carlsbad.
Born Jan. 1, 1926, in New Jersey, he lived in Carlsbad. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Copley was preceded in death by his wife, Zelma Copley, in 1995; and his son, Eric Copley, in 1988. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Linda Copley of Irvine; grandchildren Matthew B. Copley of Irvine and Colleen Kraemer of Long Beach; and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 14, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Roman Nanasca, 46
POWAY - Roman Cruz Nanasca, 46, died Monday, July 10, 2000.
Born Aug. 9, 1953, in the Philippine Islands, he lived in Poway. He was a NADEP machinist for 21 years and served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Twin Peaks Middle School and Poway High School PTAs and St. Gabriel's Catholic Church.
Mr. Nanasca is survived by his wife, Melorna D. Nanasca of Poway; son Rommel Nanasca and Ariel Nanasca, both of Poway; daughter Melanie Nanasca of Poway; brothers Ernie Nanasca of the Philippines, Eddie Nanasca and Armando Nanasca, both of San Francisco, and Vincente Nanasca of Los Angeles; sisters Zeny Nanasca, Nelly Nanasca, Liza Mariano and Nerrie De Guzman, all of the Philippines.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 13, at Poway Bernardo Mortuary Chapel. A Mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 12:10 p.m. Friday, July 14, at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Poway. Burial will follow at Dearborn Memorial Park with full military honors.

Marybeth Bratton, 73
VISTA - Marybeth Bratton, 39, died Monday, July 10, 2000, at Tri-City Medical Center.
Born Sept. 4, 1926, in Easton, Ill., she lived in Vista for 39 years. She was a computer systems analyst at Camp Pendleton and Point Loma for 30 years. She was a member of and volunteer for Friends of the Vista Library and the Audubon Society. She was a member of the Oceanside and Carlsbad Coin Club and a volunteer tutor at Olive Elementary School in Vista. She was a volunteer for the Newport Historical Society.
Mrs. Bratton was preceded in death by her husband, William W. Bratton, Sgt.Maj. USMC, Ret., on July 16, 1998. She is survived by her daughters, Kim Barbehenn of Vancouver, Wash., Beth Hutchins of El Paso, Texas, Linda Cochran of Pittsburgh and Cynthia McBride of Oceanside; sister Jeanne Yager of Georgetown, Texas; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, July 14, at Allen Brothers Mortuary, Vista Chapel. A private cremation is planned with inurnment to take place at Fort Rosecrans National cemetery in Point Loma.

Roger Lynch, 81
SAN MARCOS - Roger Edward Lynch, 81, died Monday, July 10, 2000, at a local hospital.
Born Jan. 7, 1919, in Chicago, he lived in San Marcos for 22 years. He was an accountant for 45 years and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Chicago.
Mr. Lynch is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mildred E. Lynch of San Marcos; son Thomas R. Lynch of S. Elgin, Ill.; daughters Penny Sanders and Pamela Ann Lee, both of Sarasota, Fla.; stepdaughters Mildred Newsom of Encinitas and Nancy McGregor of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; eight grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; and great-granddaughter Jordan Lynch.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. today, July 13, at Allen Brothers Mortuary, San Marcos Chapel, with Deacon Joseph Wisocky officiating. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, July 14, at St. Mark's Catholic Church in San Marcos, with the Rev. Burt Boudoin officiating. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Loma Vista Memorial Park in Fullerton.

Barbara Bourdot, 84
CARMEL MOUNTAIN - Barbara Jane Bourdot, 84, died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, of pneumonia, at Sunbridge in Carmel Mountain.
Born Nov. 20, 1915, in New York City, she lived in Escondido for nine months and in Rancho Bernardo for 15 years. She was a sales representative in advertising for six years.
Mrs. Bourdot is survived by her husband of 25 years, Walter T. Bourdot of Escondido; brother Howard Steinmetz of Barnegat, N.J.; sisters Jean Fetman of Highland Park, Ill., and Estelle Sheehan of Seminole, Fla.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 29, at Redwood Terrace, with Nels Oas officiating.
The family suggests memorial donations to Chalice Unitarian Church in Poway.

Robert Edmonds, 80
ESCONDIDO - Robert E. Edmonds, 80, died Monday, July 10, 2000, at his home.
Born March 26, 1920, in Pixford, Pa., he lived in Escondido for three years and had lived in Hemet for 18 years. He was a machinist for Aerojet General for 30 years before retiring.
Mr. Edmonds is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Sonya Edmonds of Escondido and Dale and Monica Edmonds of Arkansas; daughter and son-in-law Carol and Steve Clines of Washington; sister Helen Brennan of Pennsylvania; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 14, at Westminster Memorial Park in Westminster, with the Rev. Tom Bousman officiating. Burial will follow.
The family suggests memorial donations to the American Parkinson Disease Association, 4901 Morena Blvd., Suite 104, San Diego, CA 92117-3424.

John Pinton, 65
POWAY - John Roger Pinton, 65, died Saturday, July 8, 2000, of a heart attack, in Poway.
Born Jan. 4, 1935, in Seattle, he lived in Poway for 20 years. He was a building inspector for the city of San Diego before retiring Nov. 19, 1992. He served in the U.S. Air Force Strategic Air Command from 1953 to 1962 and was a member of the Worldwide Church of God.
Mr. Pinton is survived by his wife of 28 years, Maureen Pinton; sons Jeff Jones and Greg Jones; daughters Pamela Freeze and Nicole Jacobs; brother David Pinton; and two grandchildren.
A private cremation is planned, with cremains to be scattered at sea.
The family suggests memorial donations to Interfaith Community Services, 430 N. Rose, Escondido, CA 92027.

Nora DuPrez, 90
SAN DIEGO - Nora DuPrez, 90, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at El Cajon Valley Convalescent Center.
Born Dec. 7, 1909, in Stanberry, Mo., he lived in San Diego County for 20 years.
Mrs. DePrez was preceded in death by her son, Alvin Williamson; and her great-grandson, Ronnie Burgess. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, William DuPrez; daughters LaVonne Freeman of San Marcos and Wanda Burgess of Ramona; brother Wayne French of Pueblo, Colo.; sisters Edna Atha of Half Moon Bay and Lois Apple of Citrus Heights; 10 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
A private family service was held Sunday, July 9, in Ramona.

James Peters, 81
ESCONDIDO - James D. "J.D." Peters, 81, died Friday, June 16, 2000, in Escondido.
Born April 26, 1919, in San Diego, he lived in Escondido for one year. He graduated from San Diego High School and attended San Diego State College. He was a test pilot for B-24 bombers at Consolidated Vultee Corporation, a pilot for Pan American Airways in Miami and captain of Pacific Overseas Airways. He was captain in the Air Transport Command for Consairways in the South Pacific, instructor of primary Army Air cadets and a real estate broker with Peters Realty and contractor. He was a member of the Rotary Club International and Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
Mr. Peters was preceded in death by his son, James D. Peters Jr., in 1987; and his sister, Ruby Machado. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Nancy Peters of Moraga; daughter Judith Ruzich of Escondido; and grandson Robert Scott Ruzich.
No service will be held at the request of the deceased.

Kathryn Breza, 88
WALNUT CREEK - Kathryn "Kay" Breza, 88, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000, at Mercy Hospital.
Born March 5, 1912, in Minneapolis, she lived in Walnut Creek for three years. She was a professional singer and a homemaker and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1930.
Mrs. Breza was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Walter Paul Breza; and son Rick Breza. She is survived by her sons, Tom Breza of Walnut Creek, Jim Breza of Fallbrook and Ken Breza of Citrus Heights; daughter Diane Bair of Merced; sister Peg Ems of Upland; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial donations to Make-A-Wish Foundation, 6060 Cornerstone Court, San Diego, CA 92121.

Dianne Dykstra, 56
LAKE ELSINORE - Dianne Elizabeth Dykstra, 56, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000, of cancer.
Born Jan. 24, 1944, in Attleboro, Mass., she lived at Lake Elsinore for 25 years. She was a homemaker for 38 years and a member of the Elks Club.
Mrs. Dykstra is survived by her husband, Piet Dykstra of Lake Elsinore; son Jan Dykstra of Lake Elsinore; daughters Denise Warfe and Jane Childers, both of Lake Elsinore; brothers David Gagnon of Wildomar and Michael Gagnon of Perris; and five grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 15, at Miller-Jones Mortuary in Sun City.
The family suggests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, 7130 Magnolia, Suite S, Riverside, CA 92504.
