Richard Pappenfus, 51
WHITTIER - Richard Raymond Pappenfus, 51, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, of a heart attack in Whittier.

He was born Jan. 19, 1949, in St. Cloud, Minn., and was an artist at Harris' Pipe Organs. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve for five years.

Mr. Pappenfus was preceded in death by his mother, Erma Pappenfus; father Winslow Pappenfus; and brother Gary Pappenfus. He is survived by his son, Aaron Pappenfus of Temecula; daughter Katie Pappenfus of Temecula; and brother Tom Pappenfus of Coon Rapids, Minn.

A private cremation was held and a private service is planned.

R. Mike Kelly, 42

TEMECULA - R. Mike Kelly, 42, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, of a pulmonary embolism at Rancho Springs Medical Center.

Born Aug. 2, 1957, in La Mesa, he lived in Temecula for nine years. He was a 1975 graduate of Patrick Henry High School in San Diego and was a material control manager for Cardinal TG in Moreno Valley for 10 years. He was a member of Pathways Community Church in Santee.

Mr. Kelly is survived by his wife, Tommie Kelly of Temecula; mother Patricia "Trish" Morasse of Elko, Nev.; father Robert "Mike" Kelly of Spring Valley; sons Joshua Michael Kelly and Andrew Patrick Kelly, both of Temecula; daughter Ashley Marie Kelly of Temecula; brother D. Pat Kelly of Santee; and sister Cheryl Nelson of El Cajon.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, at Stout Family Funeral Home. A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Stout Family Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Temecula Cemetery.

Genevieve Wilkinson, 88

ESCONDIDO - Genevieve E. Wilkinson, 88, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at Pomerado Medical Center.

Born July 16, 1911, in Ruidoso, N.M., she lived in Escondido for six years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Valley Center Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Mrs. Wilkinson is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis Wilkinson of Escondido; Harry and Donna Wilkinson and Melvin and Jane Wilkinson, all of Washington, and Fred and Louise Pershing of Wisconsin; daughters and son-in-law Joann Owens of Oregon and Loretta and Henry Kopitzke of Napa Valley; brother and sister-in-law Walter and Dottie Hale of Corona; sisters and brother-in-law Lucille and Harold Ford of Highland and Ruth Fancher of Arizona; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, at Valley Center Seventh-day Adventist Church. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m., with the Rev. J. Branson Crispens officiating. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at San Pasqual Cemetery in San Pasqual Valley.

Joyce Reed, 81

RANCHO BERNARDO - Joyce Elizabeth Platt Reed, 81, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, at Palomar Medical Center.

Born Oct. 18, 1918, in Barber County, Kan., she lived in Rancho Bernardo for 16 years. She was a social worker for the state of Kansas. She received a bachelor of arts degree at the University of Kansas and a master's degree in social work at the University of Missouri. She was a member of the League of Women Voters, AAUW and Rancho Bernardo Newcomers Group.

Mrs. Reed was preceded in death by her brother, John Platt, in 1959. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, William R. Reed of Rancho Bernardo; sons and daughter-in-law William R. and Patricia Reed of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Steven M. Reed of Littleton, Colo.; brother Mike Platt of Medicine Lodge, Kan.; and grandchildren Wendi L. Reed-Nelson, Jason R. Reed and Benjamin D. Reed.

A private cremation is planned. Burial will take place at the Platt Ranch in Kansas.

Andrew Green, 8
ESCONDIDO - Andrew Nicholas Green, 8, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, in Escondido.

Born June 17, 1991, he lived in Escondido for eight years.

He is survived by his mother and father, Amber and Michael Green of Escondido; paternal grandparents Paul and Betsy Green of Escondido; maternal grandparents Tom and Lois Hanson of Escondido, and Jack Amos of Valley Center; and sister Marrissa Green of Escondido.

A funeral is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Gateway Community Church. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Emil Schmidt, 90

FALLBROOK - Emil Gottlieb Schmidt, 90, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, in Fallbrook.

Born July 28, 1909, in Temvik, N.D., he lived in Fallbrook for 38 years. He was a chiropractor for 58 years. He achieved 55 years of perfect attendance in Lions International and was district governor of the 4L6 district. He was also active in Toastmasters International and a member of the Richie Club.

Mr. Schmidt was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Schmidt; daughter, Charlotte Savage; son, Peter Schmidt; and grandson, Brandon DeCastro. He is survived by daughters Marylee Schmidt of Juno, Ala., Lee Ann LaBrot of Long Beach and Rita Burcham of Bakersfield; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation and viewing are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. today, Feb. 21, at Berry-Bell & Hall Chapel. A funeral will follow at 11 a.m. at Berry-Bell & Hall Chapel with Dr. Dennis Y. Ginoza officiating. Private cremation is planned.

The family suggests memorial donations to the Lions International Sight Program or Toastmasters International, or to the Lions Club Student Speaker Fund, c/o Bob Clark, 8487 Golden Ridge Rd., Lakeside, CA 92040.

Mauricio Padilla, 89

SUN CITY - Mauricio Padilla, 89, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at Menifee Valley Medical Center.

Born Feb. 9, 1911, in Espanola, N.M., he lived in Sun City for 13 years. He worked for Kaiser Steel as a lead man for 40 years.

Mr. Padilla is survived by his wife, Mary Padilla of Sun City; sons Ben Padilla of Salt Lake City, Daniel Padilla of Homeland and Fred Padilla of Carlsbad, N.M.; daughters Irene Scott of Salt Lake City and Helen Theiss of Homeland; sister Frances Duran of La Jara, N.M.; brother David Padilla of Denver; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Miller-Jones Mortuary & Crematory. A service is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, at Miller-Jones Mortuary & Crematory. Burial will take place at Elsinore Valley Cemetery District.

Esther Zittel, 80
ENCINITAS - Esther Selma Zittel, 80, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000.

Born Sept. 9, 1919, in Sheboygan, Wis., she lived in Encinitas for three years.

Mrs. Zittel is survived by her son, Jim Zittel of Carlsbad; daughter and son-in-law Judith A. and Rafael Calzada of Jacksonville, Fla.; brothers Henry Leonhardt of Sheboygan, Edward Leonhardt of Hemet and Clarence Leonhardt of Flint, Mich.; sisters Marie Warneck of Alamo, Texas and Wilma Dekker and Lenie Winter, both of Sheboygan; grandchildren Rafael Alan Calzada, Juan Carlos Calzada and Elissa Anne Calzada; and great-grandchildren Natalia Lynn and Rafael Patrick.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier.

Ann Levsen, 84

ESCONDIDO - Ann E. Levsen, 84, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at her home.

Born April 5, 1915, in Chula Vista. she lived in Escondido for 48 years. She was a teacher at Escondido and Orange Glen high schools before retiring. She was a member of the California Teachers Association.

Mrs. Levsen was preceded in death by her husband, Martin M. Levsen, in 1993. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Ambler of Colorado, Ann Marie Zacharias of Poway and Delores Randal of El Cajon; grandchildren Kim Ambler, Collette Ambler, Michelle Keefer, Mike Leavy and Laurie Massas; and great-grandchildren Cory Johnson, Tyler Keefer, Brianna Massas and Bronson Massas.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 29, at Eternal Hills Mortuary Chapel. Interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Raymond Ruff, 81

ESCONDIDO - Raymond F. Ruff, 81, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000.

Born Jan. 11, 1919, in San Diego, he lived in Escondido for 19 years. He served in the U.S. Navy on LST landing ships during World War II, traveling to North Africa, Sicily, Italy, England, Scotland, Egypt and Utah Beach on D-Day. He received a Purple Heart. He sailed through the Panama Canal on the way to Burma where English soldiers and equipment were left behind Japanese lines and were recommended for a Presidential Citation.

Mr. Ruff is survived by his wife, Dorothy Ruff of Escondido; daughter and son-in-law Dorothy and William Johnson of Escondido; and grandsons Philip Raymond Johnson and Daniel Edward Johnson, both of Florida.

A private interment will take place at Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma.

Amelia Martelli, 88

CARLSBAD - Amelia Marie Martelli, 88, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at Sunbridge Care & Rehabilitation.

Born Jan. 24, 1912, in New York, she lived in Carlsbad for 14 years. She was a homemaker for 67 years.

Mrs. Martelli is survived by her sons, Ronald Juliano of Carlsbad, Richard Juliano of Lancaster and Vincent Martelli of Texas; brothers Joseph De Martino of Orient, N.Y., Anthony De Martino of Spring Hill, Fla., and Mario De Martino of Boyington, Fla.; sisters Evelyn DiLisa of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Jean Ferreri of Hudson, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation and viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. A funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at Eternal Hills Chapel. Interment will follow.

Chesley Huddleston, 85

VISTA - Chesley Olan Huddleston, 85, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at Tri-City Medical Center.

Born Dec. 11, 1914, in Lockney, Texas, he lived in Vista for 36 years. He was the assistant manager at Vista Pipe & Supply for 15 years.

Mr. Huddleston was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Virginia Huddleston, on Jan. 11, 1992. He is survived by his daughter, Elouise Rouhier of Montrose, Colo.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at Allen Brothers Mortuary, Vista Chapel. A private cremation is planned.

James Davis, 81

CARLSBAD - James Worth Davis, 81, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at Las Villas De Carlsbad.

Born July 13, 1918, in Virginia, he lived in Carlsbad for six months. He was a sales representative for Corky McMillan Real Estate before retiring and served as a captain in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.

Mr. Davis is survived by his sons, Randolph "Randy" Davis of Trabuco Canyon and James B. Davis of Yorba Linda; daughter Marcy Delisandri of Clearlake Shore; brother Larry Davis of Sarasota, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park. Inurnment will follow with full military honors.

The family suggests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, 12405 Rancho Bernardo Road, Suite 100, San Diego, CA 92128.

Jose Olea, 92

CARLSBAD - Jose D. Olea, 92, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, in La Jolla.

Born Oct. 24, 1908, in Arizona, he lived in Carlsbad for 50 years.

Mr. Olea was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Olea, in 1983. He is survived by his sisters, Ysabel O. Caneles of Carlsbad and Hortencia O. Sepulveda of Nogalas, Ariz.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Chester Owens, 85

SAN MARCOS - Chester Arthur Owens, 85, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at his home.

Born Aug. 23, 1914, in Ogden, Utah, he lived in San Marcos for 28 years. He was a real estate broker for Owens Real Estate before retiring.

Mr. Owens is survived by his wife of 44 years, Norma L. Owens of San Marcos; daughters Elaine Hopper of Three Rivers, Melody Buffham of Palmdale and Canda Fisher of Laguna Niguel; grandchildren Bryan Hopper, Sharon Dye, Mike Buffham, Dan Buffham, Jenny and Bethany Buffham, Carolee Elo, Kerry Fisher and Shawn and Dawn Reeves; and great-grandchildren Melanie Dye, Ryan, James, Tyler, Jeffry and Sarah Ziekle, Preston, Josh, Michelle and Shaw Reeves, Ashley and Emily Buffham, Gavin Rhoads and Audrey Elo.

Visitation and viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Feb. 23, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in San Marcos. A funeral service will follow at noon, with Bishop Scott officiating. Interment will take place at a later date at Desert Lawn Memorial Park.
