James O'Brien, 88

SUN CITY - James O'Brien, 88, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at Hemet Valley Medical Center.

Born Dec. 19, 1911, in Ronan, Mont., he lived in Sun City for 20 years. He was a certified public accountant for the Internal Revenue Service in Los Angeles for 30 years. He graduated from the University of Montana and was the treasurer of Sun City. He was a member of the Lions Club.

Mr. O'Brien is survived by his daughter, Pat Varney of Portland, Ore.; sister Janice O'Brien Currie of Butte, Mont.; and three grandchildren.

A private family graveside service is planned. Burial will take place at Perris Valley Cemetery.

Edward Kraft, 52
TEMECULA - Edward James Kraft II, 52, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at his home.

Born June 24, 1947, in Glendale, he lived in Temecula for 12 years. He worked for Metal Bars Inc. in Santa Fe Springs.

Mr. Kraft was preceded in death by his wife, Lenore Kraft, in 1979; and his son, Chad Kraft, in 1979. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Janice Kraft of Temecula; mother Virginia Kraft of Dover, Alaska; mother-in-law Mariete "Tari" Farmer of Temecula; sons Matthew Kraft and Sean Kraft, both of Temecula; daughter Sarah Kraft of Temecula; sister and brother-in-law Diane and Bob Morris of Dover; brother-in-law Dean Farmer of La Mesa; and sister-in-law Laurie Root of Lake Forest.

Viewing will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, at Berry-Bell & Hall Mortuary. A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, at Berry-Bell & Hall Mortuary, with the Rev. Dennis Ginoza officiating. Inurnment is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at Temecula Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial donations to the Kraft Family Education Trust Fund, c/o Hagerty Stewart & Associates Inc., 205 E. State St., Redlands, CA 92373.

Marjorie Holmes, 83

MANASSAS, Va. - Marjorie Norine Neer Holmes, 83, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at Prince William Hospital in Manassas.

Born Aug. 23, 1916, in Missouri, she previously lived in Oceanside.

Mrs. Holmes is survived by her daughter, Paula Schwoerer of Manassas; brothers Gerald Elson of Brookfield, Mo., and Gene Elson of Marshall, Mo.; sister Maxine Pinkerton; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. today, Feb. 16, at Mountcastle Funeral Home in Dale City, Va. A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at Mountcastle Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Ted Kruger, 79

SAN MARCOS - Ted Kruger, 79, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, of an aortic aneurysm, at Palomar Medical Center.

Born April 22, 1920, in New York, he lived in San Marcos for 19 years. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Miami, Fla., for 20 years and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He had a big part in the creation of the Memorial for Living Veterans of Foreign Wars at Grape Day Park.

Mr. Kruger is survived by his wife, Renee Kruger of San Marcos; son and daughter David and Michelle Kruger of San Diego; daughter and son-in-law Joan and Ray Sayyah of San Diego and Merritt Island, Fla.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Inurnment will take place at 9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.

North County Cremation Services is handling arrangements.

Bobby Barnes, 60

FALLBROOK - Bobby Joe Barnes Sr., 60, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, in Fallbrook.

Born Sept. 15, 1939, in Printiss, Ky., he lived in Fallbrook for 42 years. He was a stocker for MWR Post Exchange for five years.

Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife, Zandra A. Barnes of Fallbrook; mother Sybil I. Williams of Jacumba; sons Bobby Joe Barnes Jr. of Oceanside and Archie A. Barnes of Fallbrook; daughters Zola I. Barnes and Jennie M. Trantham, both of Fallbrook; brothers William B. Barnes of Idaho, Mitchell E. Barnes of El Centro and Michael E. Barnes of Solana Beach; sisters Betty Barnes of Texas, Martha C. Pitcht of Escondido and Donna S. Kurtz of Bonsall; and nine grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at Fallbrook Masonic Cemetery, with Chaplain Doug Schmidt and the USMC Military Honor Detail officiating.

Donald Pyle, 70

SAN MARCOS - Donald E. Pyle, 70, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000.

Born July 24, 1929, in Cleveland, he lived in San Marcos. He served in the U.S. Marines and in the U.S. Army, serving as Eisenhower's bodyguard in France and Germany and as a criminal investigator. He was an accounting supervisor for Mira Costa College before retiring and was a member of the Gideons and a lifetime member of Musicians Union Local 325. He was a volunteer for Pop Warner football and at the senior center.

Mr. Pyle was preceded in death by his daughter, Teri Pyle. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jean Pyle of San Marcos; daughter Jennifer Pyle of Tustin; sister and brother-in-law Betty and Joseph Vargo of Cleveland; two nephews, two nieces and their children.

No formal service is planned.

The family suggests memorial donations to the American Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 4901 Morena Blvd., Suite 104, San Diego, CA 92117; or to Alzheimer's Association of San Diego, 8514 Commerce Ave., San Diego, CA 92121.

Guiseppe Pasquini, 74

OCEANSIDE - Guiseppe M. Pasquini, 74, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at his home.

Born Feb. 22, 1925, in Rome, he lived in Oceanside for 10 years. He was a sales representative of imported coffees and coffee machines. He received the Certificate of Honorable Patriot for contributing to the liberation of Italy under the Allied Forces.

Mr. Pasquini is survived by his wife of 10 years, Lida Pasquini of Oceanside; son David Pasquini of Oceanside daughters Edelwaiss Pasquini of Milano, Italy, Donatella Pasquini of Genova, Italy, and Beatrice Pasquini of Oceanside; brother Libertario Pasquini of Rome; sisters Silvana Renzi and Elena Pasquini, both of Rome; and five grandchildren.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 5 p.m. today, Feb. 17, at Old Mission Monastery Church Chapel in Oceanside, with the Rev. Michel Gagnon officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Rome.

The family suggests memorial donations to Padre Pio Foundation of America, 463 Main St., Cromwell, CT 06416.

Alfonso Hernandez, 64

ESCONDIDO - Alfonso J. Hernandez Sr., 64, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, in Escondido.

Born Oct. 30, 1935, in El Paso, Texas, he lived in Escondido for 30 years. He was a janitor for Palomar Plating Co.

Mr. Hernandez is survived by his sons, Alfonso J. Hernandez Jr. and Andreas M. Hernandez, both of Escondido; daughter Anna L. Luce of Vista; sisters Carmen Munoz of Pacoima and Juana Dominguez of Lancaster; and three grandchildren.

Visitation and viewing will be held at noon Friday, Feb. 18, at McLeod Mortuary Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Burial will take place at 2 p.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Mary Denk, 73

OLIVENHAIN - Mary Ward Smythe Denk, 73, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at her home.

Born Dec. 15, 1926, in Washington, D.C., she lived in Olivenhain. She moved to Encinitas in 1985 and was a member of Encinitas Elks Lodge.

Mrs. Denk was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Smythe, in 1991. She is survived by her husband of seven years, Harley Denk of Olivenhain; son Michael Smythe of San Diego; daughter Karen Smythe of Encinitas; son-in-law Robert of Van Nuys; sisters and brothers-in-law Ann and Bill Morrissey of Connecticut and Teeny and Stan Kitzmiller of Florida; granddaughter Kelly of Northridge; and many nephews and nieces.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at St. John's Catholic Church in Encinitas. A private inurnment will take place at Olivenhain Cemetery.

Martin Ebben, 89

ENCINITAS - Martin J. Ebben, 89, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at Scripps Ocean View Convalescent Hospital in Encinitas.

Born Sept. 27, 1910, in Little Chute, Wis., he lived in Encinitas for 21 years. He served in the U.S Army during World War II and retired as a self-employed kitchen designer.

Mr. Ebben is survived by his wife, Alice L. Ebben of Encinitas; son Gary Ebben of Brooklyn, Wis.; daughter Christine Stephens of Santa Barbara; and four grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, at St. John's Catholic Church in Encinitas. A private inurnment will take place at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma.

The family suggests memorial donations to the American Red Cross, 3650 Fifth Ave., San Diego, Ca 92103.

Goldie Knight, 88

VISTA - Goldie B. Knight, 88, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, in Vista.

Born Sept. 28, 1911, in Illinois, she lived in Vista for 40 years. She was a member of the Community Baptist Church.

Mrs. Knight was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Knight, in 1998. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Robert and Belvia Knight of Vista; daughters and sons-in-law Betty and Bob Ellis of West Covina and Sandra and Arthur Tobiason of Ramona; brothers Carl Olson of Illinois and Raymond Olson of Texas; sisters Bonnie Hammje of Iowa, Toby Parsin of Palmdale and Wanita Unruh of Kansas; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at Eternal Hills Chapel. A private burial is planned.

Edna La Voie, 76

VISTA - Edna Louise La Voie, 76, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, in Vista.

Born March 12, 1923, in Los Angeles, he lived in Vista for two years and previously lived in Oceanside for two years. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. La Voie was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Wayne La Voie, in 1972; daughter Linda Marie La Voie; brother Clark Lee Headrick; and sister Lillian Headrick. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, J. Gerard La Voie of Vista; sons Dale La Voie of Dana Point, Claud La Voie and Jerry Lee La Voie, both of Lake Elsinore; brother Robert Headrick of Las Vegas; sister Dorothy Marino of N. Long Beach; grandchildren Shaine, Tanya, Jenny, Jason and Justin; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for family and friends was held Saturday, Feb. 12, at Lake Elsinore. Interment will take place at Fairhaven Memorial Park beside her oldest daughter and youngest son.

George St. George, 76

SAN DIEGO - George J. St. George Sr., 76, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, of heart failure, at Scripps Ocean View Convalescent Hospital in Encinitas.

Born Feb. 22, 1923, in New Brunswick, N.J., he lived in San Diego for 13 years. He was a highway foreman for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and worked for the San Diego Padres. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in New Brunswick, and the Knights of Pythias.

Mr. St. George was preceded in death by his brother, Frederick St. George, in 1999; and his sister, Helen Baca, in 1983. He is survived by his former wife of 28 years, Jean St. George of Vista; sons Charles St. George of Toms River, N.J., and George St. George Jr. of Vista; daughters Genevieve St. George of Princeton, N.J., and Patricia Swan of Portsmouth, Va.; sister Margaret Peticolas of Big Rapids, Mich.; and grandchildren Ashley, Katy, Brittany and Zachary.

Alan Citron, 75

OCEANSIDE - Alan Robert Citron, 75, died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2000, of cancer.

Born July 18, 1924, in Chicago, he lived in Oceanside for many years. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Miami in Florida and served in the U.S. Navy. He managed bowling alleys in Chicago and was a sales representative for a bowling equipment company. He earned a master's degree in English and a teaching certificate from San Diego State University and taught English at Lincoln High School. He was a member of the Oceanside Sea Lions Club.

Mr. Citron is survived by his nephew, David Citron III of Boston; and nieces Leslie Citron McPherson of San Mateo and Joann Citron of Weissman of Greensboro, N.C.

The family suggests memorial donations to the Oceanside Sea Lions, c/o Larry Byers, 3851 El Camino Real, Carlsbad, CA 92008.

Jan Beck, 58

FALLBROOK - Jan Alton Beck, 58, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, in Fallbrook.

Born Nov. 28, 1941, in Bakersfield, he lived in Fallbrook for 1 1/2 years. He was an inventory specialist for Robert Shaw for 33 years.

Mr. Beck is survived by his brother, Jeffrey L. Beck of Newport Beach.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, Feb. 16, at Rancho Monserate Club House. A private cremation is planned.

The family suggests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, NCICFUL, PO Box 102454, Atlanta, GA 30368-2454.

Violet Harwood, 73

LEUCADIA - Violet "Charlie" Harwood, 73, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000.

Born Jan. 15, 1927, she lived in Leucadia for 25 years.

Mrs. Harwood is survived by her sons, Joseph David Harwood, Thomas Mark Harwood; daughter Shannon Donnelley Harwood; one brother; and grandchildren Gillian Harwood and Madelyn Harwood.

A memorial service will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. today, Feb. 17, at 207 Calle de Madera in Leucadia.
