ESCONDIDO - Lee John DeMeo Jr., 5, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at UCSD Medical Center.
Born Dec. 2, 1994, in Sellersville, Penn., he lived in Escondido.
Lee was preceded in death by his brother, Jacob DeMeo, in 1999. He is survived by his mother and father, Jennifer and Lee John DeMeo of Escondido; five uncles; three aunts; and grandparents Dorothy Williamson of Vista and Jack and Irene Williamson of South Carolina.
A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. today, Feb. 16, at Gateway Community Church in Escondido. Burial will take place at 1 p.m. today, at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

ESCONDIDO - Alice A. Eriksen, 74, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at her home in Escondido.
Born Aug. 15, 1925, in San Antonio, Texas, she lived in Escondido for 30 years. She was a homemaker, a member of the City of Hope Auxiliary in Duarte and a volunteer at Palomar Medical Center.
Mrs. Eriksen is survived by her husband, Robert Eriksen of Escondido; brother Gene Biemer of San Antonio; and sisters Helen Maritzen and Cecilia Milski, both of San Antonio.
A rosary will be recited at 11 a.m. today, Feb. 16, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Escondido, with Chaplain Ryan Perkins officiating. A Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in San Antonio. Interment will follow at St. Jerome's Catholic Cemetery in Martinez, Texas.

VISTA - Angelo Messina, 73, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at his home in Vista.
Born Feb. 14, 1927, in Sicily, Italy, he lived in Vista for four years after retiring from New York. He was a mason with Mason Tenders Union Local 79 in New York for 50 years.
Mr. Messina is survived by his wife, Lillian Messina of Vista; sons Angelo Messina and Santo Messina, both of Vista; daughters Lillian Rolfini of Vista; two sisters in Italy; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7 p.m., today, Feb. 16, at Allen Brothers Mortuary, San Marcos Chapel. A funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Vista, with the Rev. Ramon Marrufo officiating. Interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Born March 16, 1920, in Minnesota, she lived in Oceanside for 40 years.

Samuel Hyde, 18
RAMONA - Samuel "Sam" William Hyde, 18, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, the result of an automobile accident on Poway Road. He was on his way to work.
Born July 8, 1981, in El Centro, he lived in Ramona. He attended schools in Ramona and Warner Springs and graduated from Ramona High School's "Future Bound" program. He worked for Ralphs grocery store in Carmel Mountain for several months and was a member of the Ramona Presbyterian Church.
Samuel is survived by his parents, William A. and Nancy L. Hyde of Ramona; brother Carl T. Schwettmann of Ramona; sister Rebecca J. Schwettmann of Escondido; adopted sister Louise C. Parnell of San Diego; aunt Mary A. Caratachea of Escondido; sister-in-law Nina M. Alessi of Ramona; nephews Raymond E. Nevarez of Escondido and Carl T. Schwettmann III and Cody J. Schwettmann, both of Ramona; and niece Angel L. Nevarez of Escondido.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, at Ramona Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Herb Christ officiating.

TEMECULA - Edward James Kraft II, 52, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at his home.
Born June 24, 1947, in Glendale, he lived in Temecula for 12 years. He worked for Metal Bars Inc. in Santa Fe Springs.
Mr. Kraft was preceded in death by his wife, Lenore Kraft, in 1979; and his son, Chad Kraft, in 1979. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Janice Kraft of Temecula; mother Virginia Kraft of Dover, Alaska; mother-in-law Mariete "Tari" Farmer of Temecula; sons Matthew Kraft and Sean Kraft, both of Temecula; daughter Sarah Kraft of Temecula; sister and brother-in-law Diane and Bob Morris of Dover; brother-in-law Dean Farmer of La Mesa; and sister-in-law Laurie Root of Lake Forest.

Born Aug. 4, 1931, in New York, she lived in Oceanside for 20 years. She was a respite worker and a member of Shepherd of the Valley in Oceanside.
Mrs. Walters was preceded in death by her husband, George Walters, in 1991. She is survived by her sons, George E. Walters of Maine and Andrew C. Walters of Roswell, N.M.; daughters Ronice A. Brice of Oceanside and Thelma K. Born Dec. 11, 1928, in Jackson, Mich., she lived in Escondido for 36 years. She worked for AT&T before retiring.
Mrs. Westerlund was preceded in death by her husband, George Wesley Westerlund, in 1989. She is survived by her daughters, Debra Pye of Ramona, Kathy Blackburn, Cynthia Lee and Chess Westerlund, all of Escondido, and Lauri Timmins of Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

ENCINITAS - Alice McDonald Walsh, 82, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at Casa Palmera in Del Mar.
Born Aug. 26, 1917, in Fleming, Saskatchewan, Canada, she lived in Long Beach for 48 years before moving to Encinitas in 1999. She was a registered nurse at St. Mary's Medical Center, retiring in July 1981.
Mrs. Walsh was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Frederick M. Walsh, on Dec. 7, 1969. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Thomas G. Walsh of Long Beach, E. Michael and Ginny Walsh of Toronto, Ontario, and Philip M. Walsh of Aliso Viejo; daughters and sons-in-law Bernardine D. and Martin Curtin of Avalon, Mary A. Walsh-Cole and Stan Cole and Heather and Robert Raasch, all of Encinitas; sister Lorine Cooledge of Moosomin, Saskatchewan; and 11 grandchildren.

FALLBROOK - Herbert Jack Mateas, 67, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, in Fallbrook.
Born Sept. 11, 1932, in Los Angeles, he lived in Fallbrook for 11 years. He was the owner/operator of Dragon Tree Distributors for five years and started the Bonsall Chamber of Commerce, serving as its first president.
Mr. Mateas is survived by his wife of 25 years, Jacqueline Alice Mateas of Fallbrook; sons Ronald Mateas and Kevin Mateas; sister Luella Berry of Medford, Ore.; and one grandchild.
