Irene Keller, 70
OCEANSIDE - Irene M. Keller, 70, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, in Oceanside.
Born Aug. 11, 1930, in Falls City, Neb., she lived in Oceanside for 33 years. She worked for Mission Park Medical Center before retiring in 1998. She enjoyed gardening, grandchildren and her pets.
Mrs. Keller was preceded in death by her husband, John W. "Bill" Keller, in 1982; her father, Ray C. Diefenderfer, in 1987; and her mother, Gladys Diefenderfer, in 1985. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James and Ann Keller of Oceanside; sister and brother-in-law Carol and Elmer Kohmetscher of Lincoln, Neb.; and two grandchildren.
Visitation was held Wednesday, Dec. 27, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. A funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at Eternal Hills Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Trudy Van Leersum, 90
CARSLBAD - Trudy Van Leersum, 90, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000.
Born May 25, 1910, in Rotterdam, Holland, she lived in Salt Lake City and Las Vegas before moving to Carlsbad, where she lived for the past 25 years. She was a volunteer for the Humane Society for many years and a member of the Carlsbad Women's Club.
Mrs. Van Leersum was preceded in death by her husband, G.J."Bob" Van Leersum, in 1978; and one sister and one brother. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Patricia Van Leersum of Columbia, Tenn.; and four grandchildren.
No service will be held at the request of the deceased. A private cremation is planned.
Leora Lerno, 84
JULIAN - Leora Alline Lerno, 84, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at her home.
Born Nov. 5, 1916, in Brosley, Mo., she lived in Julian. She was a homemaker and attended Calvary Chapel of Julian.
Mrs. Lerno was preceded in death by her husband, George R. Lerno. She is survived by her son, Paul Lerno of Pagosa Springs, Colo.; daughters Delores Burbine of Hemet and Dorothy Ransberger of Fallbrook; sisters Elizida Cardello and Dorothy DeCoopman; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at noon Saturday, Dec. 30, at the Haven of Rest Cemetery in Julian. Burial will follow.

Frank Sepulveda, 92
VISTA - Frank W. Sepulveda, 92, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, in Vista.
Born Oct. 4, 1908, in San Luis Rey, he lived in Vista for 92 years. He was a heavy equipment operator before retiring in 1970 and a member of the San Luis Rey Caballeros for several years.
Mr. Sepulveda was preceded in death by his wife, Maria C. Sepulveda, on March 25; stepdaughter Olga R. Walden, on August 7; and grandson Ruben D. Tarango, on Jan. 12, 1999. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Jenny Murillo of Vista; daughters and sons-in-law Frances and Danny Mendes of Vista, JoAnn McReynolds of Valley Springs, Jackie "Dotsy" and Ernie Lopez of Escondido and Margie and Van Childs of Salt Lake City; foster daughter Frances Perez of San Marcos; 28 grandchildren; and many, many great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at Eternal Hills Mortuary Chapel. A funeral service is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, at Mission San Luis Rey Parish Chapel. Interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Mildred Hoffman, 85
OCEANSIDE - Mildred D. Hoffman, 85, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at Brighton Gardens.
Born Dec. 15, 1915, in Connecticut, New Britain, she lived in Oceanside for nine years. She was a secretary for Space-General before retiring in 1966.
Mrs. Hoffman was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Sidney Hoffman, in May; brother Merwin Wellins; and sister Madeline Schwarzenberg. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Neil Hoffman of Burbank and Edward and Jewell Hoffman of Oceanside; daughter Claudia Hoffman of West Los Angeles; and grandchildren Jason, Joshua, Summer, Michelle and Amy Hoffman.
Interment will take place at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma.

Born Jan. 12, 1930, in Cleveland, he lived in Vista for two years. He worked for Lincoln Electric Co. before retiring and enjoyed antique restoration.
Mr. Koos was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Koos, in 1976; his mother, Veronica Koos, in 1982; and his brother, Arthur Koos, in 1989. He is survived by his son, Clifford Koos of Princeton, N.J.; daughters and sons-in-law Barbara and John Randall of Vista and Diane and Michael Chase of Taiwan; and grandchildren Joshua, Mark and Jessica Chase and Erica and Dalton Randall.

SAN MARCOS - Floyd Emerson Johnson, 86, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at Tri-City Medical Center.
Born Jan. 5, 1914, in Montrose, Iowa, he lived in San Marcos and Vista for 32 years. He was a carpenter and a member of Carpenter's Union Local No. 2078.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 17 years, Cecil Marie Johnson of San Marcos; son Paul Johnson of Valley Center; daughters Saundra Kaynan of Kansas and Tamara Johnson of San Marcos; sisters Vivian Malone of Texas and Ardath Blackwell of Keokuk, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY - Dorothy Gabriella Youngdale, 94, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, in Fountain Valley.
Born Dec. 20, 1901, in Amboy, Minn., she lived in Fountain Valley for two years and had lived in Vista for 26 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Star of Vista OES, Sons of Norway and the Grace Presbyterian Church Women's Club.
Mrs. Youngdale was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Waldemar Youngdale, in 1985. She is survived by her son, Dr. Paul Youngdale of Wisconsin; daughter Patricia Goplen of Westminster; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
No formal service is planned. A private cremation will take place with burial at Pleasant View Cemetery in Amboy.

Born Feb. 6, 1913, in Amarillo, Texas, he lived in Solana Beach for 65 years. He was a professional gardener, an avid traveler and woodworker.
Mr. Marquez was preceded in death by his father, Albino Marquez; his mother, Soledad Marquez, in 1962; and his brother, Luis Lopez, in 1993. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Balbina Marquez of Solana Beach; sons and daughters-in-law Larry Aguilar of Escondido, Efren and Nancy Castellanos of Phoenix and Pedro and Martina Aguilar of Tijuana, Mexico; daughters Precilia Marquez of Solana Beach and Leticia Ayuso of Escondido; brothers and sisters-in-law Apolio and Rachel Lopez of Fresno and Pablo and Anita Lopez of Santa Fe Springs; sister Maria Lopez of Whittier; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Born May 14, 1942, in Marysville, Tenn., he lived in Escondido. He worked for So-Cal Medical Transportation and served in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his father, George F. Cox; his mother, Eleanor Alms; and brother Jim Cox. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Guadalupe Cox of Escondido; stepsons Johnny Estrada and Eddie Von Kaufman; daughters Bobbie E. Cox and Becky M. Lagge; stepdaughter Martha Morales; brothers Jack Cox and John Cox; sister Judy Gross; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Born July 15, 1910, n Osage, Iowa, he lived in Escondido for 15 years. He was the manager of Arden Farms Dairy for 35 years and served in the U.S. Navy from 1928 to 1933. He was a member of Daylight Masonic Lodge in Escondido.
Mr. Bosteter was preceded in death by his son, James Bosteter. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Ray H. Bosteter of Escondido; stepdaughter Sheila Fleet; stepson John Prendergast; grandchildren David and Glen Bosteter; and great-grandchildren David Jr., Dana, Adrian, Amy and Dean.

CARLSBAD - Bert Hodges, 79, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at Tri-City Medical Center.
Born Aug. 20, 1921, in Chicago, he lived in Carlsbad for 20 years. He worked for the Los Angeles Fire Department for 28 years, retiring in 1976. He served in the U.S. Navy for six years, surviving the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941.
Mr. Hodges is survived by his wife of 43 years, Geraldine Hodges of Carlsbad.

Mrs. Moser was preceded in death by her husband, Lester W. Moser. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Beth and D. David McKinney Palermo of Fallbrook, Stella H. Henry of Martinsburg, W.Va., Alice E. and Will Slater of Bartow, Fla., and Barbare Ann and Julian E. ESCONDIDO - Ernesto Navarrete Garcia, 47, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at Palomar Medical Center.
Born June 5, 1953, in Durango, Mexico, he lived in Escondido for 25 years. He did maintenance for Lexus of Carlsbad for three years and worked for Palomar Plating in Escondido and Rena Ware Co. in Escondido for 13 years. He was a member of Jehovah's Witness, South Spanish Congregation, serving as elder.
Mr. Garcia is survived by his wife of 23 years. Stella M. Garcia of Escondido; daughters Lillian Garcia and Cristina Garcia, both of Escondido; and brother Juan Garcia of Durango, Mexico.
Visitation and viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, at Gray's Chapel in Escondido. A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness on Encino Drive in Escondido.
