Oscar Maddox, 94
ESCONDIDO - Oscar Virgil Maddox, 94, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at Life Care Center of Escondido.
Born Oct. 12, 1906, in Palmer, Texas, he lived in Escondido for many years. He was a teacher for Fallbrook Elementary before retiring and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Maddox is survived by his wife of 10 years, Isabel Maddox of Escondido; and nieces Joan Miller of Tyler, Texas and Cathy Roach of Jenkins, Okla.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary Chapel, with Deacon Tom Maher officiating. Burial will follow at 1:45 p.m. at Riverside National Cemetery, with full military honors.

Elsie Stockalper, 84
RAMONA - Elsie Stockalper, 84, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000.
Born April 19, 1916, in El Centro, she lived in San Diego County since 1940. She was a homemaker and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church of Ramona, including the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of the San Diego County Swiss Club and Ramona Ramblers. She enjoyed cooking and gardening.
Mrs. Stockalper was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Louie Stockalper, in October 1985; son Rudi Stockalper in April 1999; and brother Leo Kathriner in March 1994. She is survived by her daughters, Ernestine "Tootsie" Blattler of Murrieta and Betty Vogel of La Costa; son Robert "Bob" Stockalper of Springdale, Ark.; sisters Gertrude "Trudie" Grantham of Murrieta and Ida Klucker of Manteca; 12 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, with refreshments in the parish hall. A committal service with burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery in San Diego, where she will be buried next to her husband.

SAN MARCOS - Antonnette "Toni" Napoli, 77, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at a local convalescent home.
Born May 30, 1923, in Mayfield Heights, Ohio, she lived in San Marcos for 15 years. She owned a dry cleaning business for 15 years and was a member of the Italian-American Club.
Mrs. Napoli is survived by her sons, Jimmie Napoli of Escondido and Michael Napoli of Carlsbad; daughter Cami Napoli of San Marcos; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Burial will follow.

OCEANSIDE - Shaun Michael Gamboa, 22, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, in Oceanside.
Born Oct. 29, 1978, in Oceanside, he lived in Oceanside for 22 years. He was a landscaper at Legoland.
Mr. Gamboa is survived by his fiancee of four years, Tamara Meyer; mother and father Karen L. and Jesse "Nahu" Gamboa of Oceanside; sister Melissa Alana Gamboa of Oceanside; grandparents Ed and Lila Rudinger, Rudy Gamboa and Jane and Merrill Balser; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

ESCONDIDO - Vernon "Vern" L. Arndt, 65, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, at Palomar Medical Center.
Born Sept. 24, 1935, in Onawa, Iowa, he lived in Escondido for 28 years. He was a teacher at Hidden Valley Middle School.
Mr. Arndt is survived by his wife of 18 years, Billie Arndt of Escondido; son and daughter-in-law William and Mary Arndt of Aberdeen, S.D.; stepson and daughter-in-law Richie and Ronae Cherkin of Escondido; daughters and sons-in-law Daria Rae and Sugar Bear Knoepfle of Artas, S.D., and Debbie and Ray Fisher of Warner, S.D.; stepdaughters and son-in-law Pam Dodson of Escondido and Jill and David Mercado of Temecula; sister Jean Dommer of Dunlap, Iowa; and 16 grandchildren.

SAN DIEGO - Lillian Abbey Osborn, 85, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at Pleasant Care Nursing Center in San Diego.
Born April 29, 1915, in Goshen, Wash., she lived in San Diego for four years. She was a dietary staff worker at St. Joseph's Hospital for 20 years before retiring.
Mrs. Osborn was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Osborn, in 1989. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Kurt and Barbara Danielson of Escondido; stepson and daughter-in-law Robert and Barbara Osborn of Portland, Ore.; grandchildren Cheryl and Bradley Blatter and Erikka Danielson, all of Anchorage, Alaska, Larry and Faye Osborn of Tucson, Ariz., Mary and Curt Charles, Linda and Mike Riley and Jennifer Osborn, all of Portland; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. today, Dec. 27, at Church of the Resurrection in Escondido. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at the church. A private interment will take place at Bayview Cemetery in Bellingham, Wash.

ESCONDIDO - Don Jorgensen, 78, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, in Escondido.
Born Aug. 2, 1922, in Ogden, Utah, he lived in Escondido for 59 years. He was a trunkman for PacBell for 33 years before retiring in 1986. He served in the U.S. Army under General Patton in World War II. He enjoyed swimming, gardening, animals and playing bridge.
Mr. Jorgensen is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Don II and Carolyn Jorgensen of Rancho Santa Fe and Chris and Kim Jorgensen of Escondido; stepdaughters and son-in-law Karen and Jim Jorgensen of Escondido and Donna Hartman of Sydney, Australia; brother Christian Emmert Jorgensen of Ogden; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

OCEANSIDE - Mataese "Mac" Puealii Jr., 17, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, in a motorcycle accident in Oceanside.
Born June 25, 1983, he lived in Oceanside for 17 years. He worked for Pizza Hut in Oceanside and was a senior at El Camino High School. He was a four-year member of the JROTC, serving on the rifle team.
Mr. Puealii was preceded in death by his grandfather, Frank E. Pirillo, on Sept. 12, 1981. He is survived by his grandmother, June Pirillo of Oceanside; mother Patricia Pirillo of Oceanside; father Mataese Pulcalli of Oceanside; uncles Frank Pirillo, Keith Pirillo, Dave Pirillo and Bryan Pirillo, all of Oceanside; aunt Joyce Roca; and cousins Justin Baca, Phillip Baca and Briann Baca, all of Oceanside.
Cecil Goddard, 81
OCEANSIDE - Cecil Lee Goddard, 81, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, in Carlsbad.
Born Oct. 4, 1919, in Kansas City, Mo., he lived in Oceanside for 57 years. He was a supervisor for civil service at Camp Pendleton before retiring and served as a major in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, surviving Pearl Harbor.
Mr. Goddard is survived by his wife of 37 years, Agnes Goddard of Oceanside; sons Barry Goddard of Oceanside and Larry Goddard of Vista; brother Robert Goddard of Olathe, Kan.; 19 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Crothers is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rose Crothers of Oceanside; sons and daughters-in-law Thomas and Polly Crothers of Simi Valley and Dennis and Linda Crothers of Carlsbad; daughters and sons-in-law Faith and Travis Acord of Vista and Kathy and Rick Graves of Palmdale; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Vasey was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Vasey I, in February 1971. She is survived by her stepson, Lloyd R. Vasey of Honolulu; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Wright was preceded in death by her father, Johann Bechtold, in 1947; and her mother, Luise Bechtold, in 1954.
