Leonard W. Philbrick, 75
OCEANSIDE --- Leonard W. Philbrick, 75, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, of cancer.
Born May 10, 1925, in Newmarket, N.H., he was a resident of Oceanside for 38 years. He retired in 1985 from Oceanside Unified School District. Mr. Philbrick served in the U.S. Army Medical Corp from 1943-1945, was a member of MENSA, Newmarket, N.H. Historical Society, Mira Costa College Advisory Council, Calfiornia Teachers Association, Zoological Society of San Diego, San Diego Society of Natural History, American Legion and California Retired Teachers Association.
Mr. Philbrick is survived by brothers and sister-in-law Richard and Marguerite Philbrick of Niskayuna, N.Y. and Herbert Philbrick of S. Berwick, Maine and sister Doris Mullen of Dover, N.H.
A memorial will take place at a later date. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetary, Newmarket, N. H. with Kent and Pelczar Funeral Home officiating. There will be a private cremation.

Manuel Reyes, 73
MURRIETA - Manuel Reyes, 73, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at his residence.
Born July 20, 1927, in Glendale, Ariz., he was a resident of Murrieta for two months. He was retired from Kaynar Microdot in Fullerton.
Mr. Reyes is survived by his wife, Beneranda, of Murrieta; sons Alberto Reyes of Fullerton and Fernando Reyes of Temecula; daughter Sylvia Sender of Pomona; brothers Aosea Jose Reyes Jr. of San Miguel, N.M. , Carlos Reyes of Pico Rivera; Gerry Reyes of Las Vegas and Armando L. Reyes of Deming, N.M.; sisters Mary Lou Lewis of Las Cruces, N.M., Alicia Reyes of San Miguel, N.M. and Lupe Leyua of San Miguel, N.M.; grandchildren Vanessa Reyes of Murrieta and Jacob Reyes of Temecula and great-grandchildren Alec and Nadie of Murrieta.
Visitation and rosary was recited from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, at Stout Family Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. today, Dec. 23, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, interment will follow at 11 a.m. at Temecula Cemetery.

Ruth Langston, 71
MURRIETA - Ruth Olive Langston, 71, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at Rancho Springs Medical Center.
Born Aug. 28, 1929, in Paterson, N.J., she was a resident of Murrieta for 27 years. She was a homemaker, enjoyed cooking, gardening, television and reading.
Mrs. Langston is survived by her husband, Robert Langston of Murrieta; sons Kenneth Langston of Santa Ana, Donald Langston of Yorba Linda and David Torres of Murrieta; daughters Barbara Torres of Oxnard, Roberta Doverspike of Costa Mesa, Patricia Langston of Winchester and Rayanne Centeno of Norco; sister Barbara Langston of Anaheim; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, at Valley Funeral Home. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, at Valley Funeral Home with burial following at Riverside National Cemetery.

Christina Smith, 75
MENIFEE - Christina Marie Smith, 75, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at Rancho Springs Medical Center in Murrieta of pneumonia.
Born Oct. 14, 1925, in Johnstown, Pa., she was a resident of Menifee for 11 years. She was retired from McDonnell Douglas, where she was an aircraft mechanic for 33 years. She was known as Grandma Chris to many people. She enjoyed traveling, bowling, bingo, crocheting and dogs.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Dolores and David Banales of Menifee and Nancy McCallister of Menifee; son and daughter-in-law David and Alice Smith of Buena Park; sisters Betty Giddings of Boulevard and Ann Kaufman of Fallentimber, Pa.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, at Miller-Jones Mortuary. A service is scheduled for 1 p.m. today, Dec. 23, at Forest Lawn in Long Beach.

CANYON LAKE - Teresa Monahan, 83, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000.
Born June 7, 1917, in New York City, she was a resident of Canyon Lake for two years. She was a homemaker for 41 years and enjoyed cooking, art, home decorating, dancing and jazz music.
Mrs. Monahan is survived by her husband, Quentin Monahan of Canyon Lake; daughter Patricia Kaufman of Canyon Lake and two grandchildren.
A graveside service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at Riverside National Cemetery No. 5.

Lloyd Burkholder Jr., 53
QUAIL VALLEY - Lloyd Kenneth Burkholder Jr., 53, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at his residence of complications of a stroke.
Born May 21, 1947, in New Kensington, Pa., he was a resident of Quail Valley for 30 years. He was the owner of Burkholder Construction Consulting for 32 years. He served in the U.S. Army, retiring with a rank of E-4, and received the Bronze Star, National Defense and Vietnam metals, Bronze Star medal and Combat Infantryman's Badge.
Mr. Burkholder is survived by his wife, Judith Burkholder of Quail Valley; daughters Dawn Egan of Lowell, Ark., Ronda Randolph and Sandra Kerrigan both of Riverside; sons Ronald Johnson, Michael Burkholder, Richard Burkholder, all of Riverside and Wayne Burkholder of Fredrick, Md.; sisters Roberta Carter of Temecula, Debbie Locascio of Sugarland, Texas, and Beth Burkholder-Lopez of Clovis and eight grandchildren.

OCEANSIDE --- Cleo "Dave" Davis, 76, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at Tri-City Hospital of a heart attack.
Born May 11, 1924, in Aldrich, Mo., he was a resident of Oceanside for 38 years. He retired in 1980 from Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base civil service from base maintenance after 29 years. He served in World War II in the European arena.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife of 53 years, Bobbie R. Davis of Oceanside; sons and daughter-in-law Jerry Davis of Oceanside and Ed and Fumate Davis of San Marcos; brother Jim Davis of Mira Loma; sister-in-law Barbara Davis of San Juan Capistrano; grandchildren Chad and Julie Osborne, Nicki, Glenn and Jason Davis and great-grandchildren Taryn, Thomas and Caius Osborne.
A graveside service with interment is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

VISTA --- Melba L. Williams, 88, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at Tri-City Hospital in Oceanside of a short illness.
Born July 4, 1912, in Tooele, Utah, she was a resident of Vista for 29 years. She was a homemaker, an active member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel H. Williams on July 4, 1998. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Tony and Bunny Williams of Palm Springs and Jim and Joanne Williams of Seattle; daughter Diane Kay of Swan Lake, Idaho, ten grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, at Vista Latter-day Saints First Ward with the Rev. Morris Vance officiating. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. at Eternal Hills, Oceanside.

ESCONDIDO --- Leonard "Gene" Ford, 88, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at a local convalescent home.
Born Jan. 6, 1912, in McIntosh County, Okla., he was a resident of Imperial County for 31 years and San Diego County for 49 years. He was a self-employed rancher for 31 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the Escondido Elk's Lodge for 55 years.
Mr. Ford is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Ronald and Donna Ford of Valley Center; brother Charles Ford of Phoenix and sister Lenora Webb of Barstow.
A memorial is scheduled for noon, Wednesday, Dec. 27, at American Legion Post #149 in Escondido with Escondido Elk's Lodge #1687 officiating. A private inurnment will take place at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Born Aug. 20, 1929, in Pennsylvania he was a resident of Oceanside for 15 years. He was retired from Gershenoff Industries as a machinist.
Mr. Sutzko is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Andrew John and Julia Sutzko of N.C., Michael C. Sutzko of Escondido and Kurt W. Sutzko of Oceanside; daughter JoAnn Davis of Oceanside; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

OCEANSIDE --- Pedro Marcos Cruz, 67, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at his residence.
Born Jan. 18, 1933, in the Philippines, he was a resident of Oceanside for 35 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired from civil service at Camp Pendleton Marine Base.
Mr. Cruz is survived by his wife of 47 years, Felicidad Cruz of Oceanside; daughter Lennie Cruz of Oceanside; sisters and brothers-in-law Fe M. Joy Nyun and U. Soe Nyun of Oceanside and Remadios and Pablo Pascua of Olympia, Wash.

Born Oct. 29, 1978, in Oceanside he was a resident of Oceanside for 22 years. He was employed by Legoland as a landscaper.
Mr. Gamboa is survived by his companion fiance of four years Tamara Meyer; mother Karen L. Gamboa of Oceanside; father Jesse Gamboa of Oceanside; sister Melissa Alana Gamboa of Oceanside; grandparents Ed and Lila Rudinger; Rudy Gamboa and Jane and Merrill Balser; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Born Sept. 24, 1935, in Onawa, Iowa, he was a resident of Escondido for 28 years. He was a Hidden Valley Middle School teacher.
