Viva LaSalle, 96
SUN CITY - Viva Frances LaSalle, 96, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, at Ember Care in Perris.
Born Dec. 11, 1904, in South Dakota, she was a resident of Sun City for 19 years. She was a self-employed physical therapist, was a member of the Eastern Star in Sun City, enjoyed reading books and was especially interested in medicine.
Mrs. LaSalle is survived by her daughters, LuWella Larson of Sun City and Mona Marie Park of Hamilton, Mont.; sister-in-law Arlene Kromray of Palm Dale; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today, Dec. 21, at Rose Hills, Whittier.

Virgil McClellan, 81
LAKE ELSINORE - Virgil Dale McClellan, 81, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at Parkview Community Hospital in Riverside of congestive heart failure.
Born July 5, 1919, in Petersburg, Ind., he was a resident of Lake Elsinore for 55 years. He was a retired molder from Long Beach Naval Shipyard. He had been involved in many charities including the March of Dimes, Junior Blind Societies and the Salvation Army. He was in the U.S. Army infantry and received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and World War II Victory Ribbon. He belonged to the American Legion.
Mr. McClellan is survived by his son, Michael McClellan of Murrieta; daughters Dina O'Neil of Lake Elsinore and Mary Linda Vasquez of Orange County; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A service is scheduled for 10 a.m. today, Dec. 21, at Riverside National Cemetery, staging area 1.

Howard Carruthers, 72
Mr. Howard Dennis Carruthers, son of William Fred and Ina Pearl Carruthers, was born in Keosauqua, Iowa, on March 20, 1928. He passed away at his home in San Marcos, Calif., on Dec. 7, 2000, at the age of 72.
Howard is survived by his wife of 29 years, sons, daughters, grand and great-grandchildren and a host of more distant relatives and friends.
He was a loving father and devoted husband. He worked nearly every day of his life, but somehow always found time for family and to help friends in need. Howard enjoyed his final years near the ocean and greatly appreciated all the kindness shown by his neighbors and many friends. He will be greatly missed by all.
Madeline Taylor, 84
FALLBROOK - - - Madeline Virginia Taylor, 84, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000.
Born April 24, 1916, in Point Marion, Pa., she was a resident of Fallbrook for six months. She was a homemaker for more than 65 years and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her husbands, John T. Dorr in 1962 and retired USN CPO George L. Taylor in 1995. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Diane V. and David Crippen of Fallbrook and four grandchildren.
A private cremation is planned with interment at Chapel of the Chimes Cemetery in Haywood.

Charles Strutton, 77
POWAY - - - Charles Thomas "Chuck" Strutton, 77, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, in Escondido.
Born Feb. 28, 1923, in Jersey City, N.J., he was a resident of Poway for 40 years. He was a U.S. Navy career man, retiring with the rank of A01 1st Class and served during World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, collected big band records and contributed to the Doug Best Swings radio program.
Mr. Strutton is survived by sons Robert Strutton of Hemet and Randy Strutton of West Covina; daughters Betty Graham of Poway, Bonnie Little of Hemet and Barbara Lacy of Warrensburg, Mo.; sister Barbara Henley of Sacramento; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
There will be private services with the cremains scattered at sea by the U.S. Navy.

Miguel Ortiz, 80
PALA - - - Miguel Ortiz, 80, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at his residence.
Born Dec. 24, 1919, in Purcell, Okla., he was a resident of Pala for 35 years. He retired in 1985 from Pauma Valley Country Club as a gardener. He loved music and played trumpet with a band for 27 years.
Mr. Ortiz is survived by his wife of 62 years, Josefina Ortiz of Pala; sons and daughters-in-law Vicente and Ermelinda Ortiz of Pauma Valley, Jose and Angela Ortiz of Gto, Mexico, Leobardo and Julia Ortiz of Gto, Mexico, Gregorio Ortiz of Pauma Valley and Miguel and Alicia Ortiz of Fallbrook; daughters and sons-in-law Rosa and Jose Gutierrez of Pauma Valley, Maria and Guillermo Tavarez of Pauma Valley and Antonia and Francisco Oviedo of Phoenix; brother Juan Ortiz of Rincon; and about 75 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, at El Centro Guadalupano Chapel in Pauma Valley.

OCEANSIDE - - - Isaias Alonzo Bazan, 19, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000.
Born July 6, 1981, in Mexico, he was a resident of Oceanside for 10 years.
Mr. Bazan is survived by his mother Reynalda Bazan of Oceanside; father Enrique Alonzo of Mexico; brothers Jose Luis Alonzo, Noel Alonzo and Sergio Alonzo, all of Mexico; sisters Leonor Alonzo of Oceanside and Angelica Alonzo of Mexico; grandfather Jose Bazan of Oceanside and grandmother Policarpia Cruz of Oceanside.
Visitation and viewing is from 4 to 6 p.m. with funeral at 6 p.m. at Eternal Hills Chapel with the Rev. Olivares officiating. There will be a private cremation.

George Worker, 77
JULIAN - - - George F. Worker Jr., 77, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, at his home.
Born June 1, 1923, in Ordway, Colo., he was a resident of Pine Hills in Julian for 13 years. He was an agronomist with the University of California at Davis for 35 years and developed new farming techniques all over the world. He was a graduate of Colorado A & M with a bachelor's degree in 1949; he did his graduate work at the University of Nebraska in 1953). He was a member of the American Agronomist Society, the Crop Science Society, an active member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Julian, a member of the American Legion and the Rotary International in Ramona. He served in the U.S. Army-Air Force during World War II.
Mr. Worker is survived by his wife of 53 years, Donna Rae Worker of Julian; son and daughter-in-law Kent M. and Sue Worker of Santa Maria; daughters and sons-in-law Stephanie A. and Jim Shoup of Bushnell, Neb., Cathy D. and Charles Denton of El Centro and Melinda S. and Will Jones of Douglas, Alaska; brothers Bill and Bud Worker, both of Colorado; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today, Dec. 22, at St. Elizabeth's Church. Burial will take place at the Haven of Rest Cemetery in Julian.

OCEANSIDE --- Rachel "Rafaela" Gonzales, 89, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at Brighton Place Nursing Home in Spring Valley.
Born in Las Flores Ranch, Oceanside, she was a resident of Oceanside 89 years. She was a life time member of St. Mary Star of the Sea Church.
Mrs. Gonzales was preceded in death by her husband Manuel F. Gonzales in 1967. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Margaret and Joseph Wise of Oceanside, Lydia and Manny Garza of Oceanside, Rita and Kenneth Reith of Las Vegas; sons and daughters-in-law Rafael and Estrella Gonzales of Carlsbad and Tony and Esther Gonzales of Oceanside; brother Sabino Romero of Oceanside; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, at Oceanside Mortuary with rosary recited at 5 p.m. at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church. A celebration of life and Catholic Christian burial Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, with the Rev. John P. Dolan officiating. Interment will follow at Eternal Hills Cemetery.

OCEANSIDE --- Ana Romelia Siguenza, 100, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000.
Born Jan. 1, 1900, in El Salvador, she was a resident of Oceanside.
Mrs. Siguenza was preceded in death by her husband Jose L. Martinez in May 1958. She is survived by daughters Ana Nelson and Maria Siguenza both of Oceanside; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27 at Eternal Hills Mortuary with interment at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Born April 24, 1924, in Minneapolis, she was a resident of Escondido for 41 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Duris was preceded in death by her husband Henry Paul Duris on Oct. 27, 1964. She is survived by sons and daughter-in-law Paul Duris of Escondido and Dan and Alexa Duris of Escondido; daughter and son-in-law Teresa and Richard Gilardoni of Santa Rosa; brother John A. Kokes of Bloomington, Minn. and five grandchildren.
A private interment at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. is planned.

Ms. Upson is survived by her grandmother, Helen Jones of Jacksonville, Ore.; mother and father Susan E. and Donald L. Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Thompson in 1977. She is survived by daughter JoAnn Rapaszky of Bonsall; sister Freddie Ziegler of Phoenix and grandchildren Rebecca and Rochelle Rapaszky.

OCEANSIDE --- Peter B. Peterson, 81, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, in Bedford, Texas of congestive heart failure.
Born April 15, 1919, in MacIntosh, S.D., he was a resident of Oceanside for 10 years. He retired in 1988 from the U.S. government, was a captain in the U.S. Army and served in the South Pacific in World War II.
Mr. Peterson is survived by his wife of 32 years, Heloisa Peterson of Fullerton; daughters and sons-in-law Cynthia and Morris Sinor of Southlake, Texas; Billie Peterson-Lugo and Robert Lugo of Waco, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law Clarence and Eunice Peterson of San Simeon Don Peterson and Florie Houseman of Philipsburg, N.J. and grandchildren Jennifer, Scott and Bryan Sinor.

ESCONDIDO --- Gwendolyn G. Clark, 98, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000.
Born May 10, 1902, in Nampa, Idaho, she was a resident of Escondido for 35 years. She was a homemaker for 75 years, past member of the American Legion in Julian, ham radio operator, past member of the WPA and one of the last old style switchboard phone operators, she loved gardening and flowers.
Mrs. Clark was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Clark and son John Clark in the 1930s. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Thomas and Velma Clark of Escondido, Raymond L. and Bobbie Clark of Bakersfield and Roger and Joann Clark of Vista; daughter Joyce Gleeson of Escondido; nine grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary. There will be a private cremation.
