John Staud, 62
FORT WORTH, Texas - Col. John J. Staud Jr., 62, died Saturday, May 20, 2000.
Born March 29, 1938, in Elkins, W.Va., he lived in Fort Worth and had previously lived in Oceanside. He graduated from high school at St. Mary's in Akron, Ohio, attended Ken State in Ohio and earned a degree in applied sciences from Troy State University in 1978. He served in the U.S. Air Force, receiving the Legion of Merit in April 1982, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Medal with Six Oak Leaf Clusters and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and retiring in 1982. He was a program support specialist for General Dynamics Services Co. in Fort Worth, managing the F-16 program in Venezuela from 1983 to 1986, receiving the highest civilian award from the Venezuelan government. He worked in property management, working as general manager of Northcoast Village from 1990 to 1996 and was president of North Coast Village Homeowners Association in Oceanside from 1997 to 1998. He was general manager of Pine Mountain Club in Pine Mountain from 1996 to 1998.
Col. Staud was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Staud. He is survived by his wife, Genevieve Staud; father John Joseph Staud Sr. of Kent, Ohio; sons and daughters-in-law John J. and Elke Staud of Luxembourg, James F. and Michelle Staud, Christopher M. and Karen Staud of Fort Worth and Jeffrey J. and Kelly Staud of Lubbock; daughters and sons-in-law Cynthia D. and Brandon Boehme of Fort Worth and Jennifer L. and Jose Escobar of Phoenix; brothers and sisters-in-law James and Judy Staud of Lake Martin, Ohio, and Joe and Marty Staud of Cumming, Ga.; sister Mary Ann Connor of Kent; eight grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
A vigil service was held Tuesday, May 23, at Greenwood Chapel in Fort Worth. A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church. Burial will take place at Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, 3301 West Freeway, Fort Worth, TX 76107.

Timothy Wright, 22
WEST COVINA - Timothy Dale Wright, 22, died Saturday, May 13, 2000, in West Covina.
Born Sept. 20, 1977, in El Monte, she lived in Vista for many years. He was a student, scheduled to graduate from ITT.
Mr. Wright is survived by his fiancee, Evie Villareal of West Covina; father Harold Wright of West Covina; grandmother Denyse Wright of San Marcos; brother Paul Wright of Honolulu; sister and brother-in-law Wendy and Brian Thompson of Carlsbad; niece Julles Thompson of Carlsbad; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.
A funeral service is pending.

Ora Lawdermilk, 89
ESCONDIDO - Ora J. Lawdermilk, 89, died Thursday, May 18, 2000.
She lived at the Palomar Continuing Care facility and had lived at the Oak Hill Residential Care Center, both in Escondido. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Upland for four years and was a reading grandmother at the Upland Elementary School.
Mrs. Lawdermilk is survived by her daughters, Carol J. Perez of Ontario and Joy Cook of Escondido; brother Lewis A. Ledbetter of Grants Pass, Ore.; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 25, at Grace Lutheran Church in Escondido.

Robert Weaver, 89
RAMONA - Robert C. Weaver, 89, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at a local hospital.
Born Dec. 23, 1910, in Kokomo, Ind., he lived in Ramona for 17 years. He owned two markets in Indiana and was the manager of the sign department of Food Basket and was a manager for Lucky. He was a member of the Ramona Ramblers Club, People Helping People, Eagles Lodge, and De Anza Cove Boat Club. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Mr. Weaver was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Weaver, in July 1994. He is survived by his son, Robert C. Weaver Jr. of Antioch; daughter Bonnie Winslow of Salem, Ind.; brother Arthur Weaver of Indiana; sister Glenna Kennedy of Michigan; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
No service will be held at the request of the deceased.

Gale Jones, 48
FALLBROOK - Gale LaVon Jones, 48, died Friday, May 19, 2000, at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego.
Born July 23, 1951, in Torrance, she lived in Fallbrook since 1996.
Mrs. Jones is survived by her sons, Jason Jones and Donnie Jones, both of Las Vegas; daughter Anita Reed of Oceanside; and grandchildren Ryan, Kayla, Olivia, Crystal, Christina and Sebastian.
A funeral service will be held at noon Wednesday, May 24, at Eternal Hills Mortuary.

Harold Walker, 51
SAN MARCOS - Harold Dean Walker, 51, died Saturday, May 13, 2000, at Kaiser Hospital in San Diego.
Born Nov. 25, 1948, in Murphysboro, Ill., he lived in San Marcos for 20 years. He worked for Jack Tollenaar Enterprise.
Mr. Walker is survived by his wife of 12 years, Gayle Walker of San Marcos; daughters Julie Walker of Orange County and Emily Walker and Sarah Tevis, both of San Marcos; brother and sister-in-law Ray and Sharron Johnson of Illinois; and sister and brother-in-law Delores and Fred Houston of Illinois.
A private family service will be held at the San Marcos Cemetery.

Sterling Blackmore, 49
CORONA - Sterling Douglas Blackmore, 49, died Monday, May 15, 2000, at Victor Valley Community Hospital in Victorville.
Born Feb. 10, 1951, in Everett, Wash., he lived in Corona for four years. He served as a communications officer in the U.S. Air Force at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland for 20 years. He was a member of the Western Sunbathing Association of Corona.
Mr. Blackmore is survived by his wife, Cherri Blackmore of Corona; mother and father Gloria and Ralph Blackmore of Everett, Wash.; and sister Diane and David Loop of Everett.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. today, May 23, at Riverside National Cemetery, Staging Area 1.

Estia Daugherty, 70
SUN CITY - Estia Lorene Daugherty, 70, died Friday, May 19, 2000, of congestive heart failure, at Inland Valley Regional Medical Center in Wildomar.
Born March 19, 1930, in Ozark, Mo., she lived in Sun City for eight years. She was a janitor for Gilroy Foods Inc. for 20 years.
Mrs. Daughterty is survived by her husband, William Daugherty of Sun City; son Rick Daugherty of Sun City; daughters Gwen Shockley and Sondra Randolph, both of Menifee, Nancy Daugherty of Sun City and Peggy Daugherty of Gilroy; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today, May 23, at Miller-Jones Mortuary & Crematory in Sun City. A graveside service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, at Perris Valley Cemetery. Burial will follow.

Richard Tanner, 42
OCEAN BEACH - Richard "Rick" Tanner, 42, died Sunday, May 21, 2000, from Legionnaires disease, at Scripps Hospital in La Jolla.
Born July 24, 1957, in La Jolla, he lived in Ocean Beach. He had lived in Pine Valley, El Cajon and North County. He worked for Marathon General Contractors.
Rick was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Stephens B. Scott and Ruben E. Tanner. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Jeanne and Jim Evans of San Marcos; father and stepmother Gerald and Gloria Tanner of Descanso; daughter Laci Jean Tanner of El Cajon; brothers Daniel R. Tanner of San Marcos and Larry W. Tanner of Mapleton, Utah; stepbrother Jim Evans of Malibu; grandmothers Frances L. Scott of Carlsbad and Daisy T. Green of Alpine; uncle Steve Scott of Pensacola, Fla.; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, adopted families and stepfamilies.
A celebration of his life will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 25, watching the sunset at Magee Park in Carlsbad.

Eric DeVroeg, 31
CAMAS, Wash. - Eric DeVroeg, 31, died Saturday, May 20, 2000.
Born Sept. 8, 1968, in Orange, he lived in Camas for 2 1/2 years and previously lived in Escondido. He was a student artist attending Clark Community College.
Mr. DeVroeg is survived by his mother, Sally Bartlett of Camas; stepfather Richard Bartlett of Escondido; father and stepmother Paul and Nelda DeVroeg of Escondido; three brothers; stepbrothers Craig Brokaw and David Bartlett, both of Escondido and Rick Bartlett of Aloha, Ore.; grandparents Minnie Pryor of Hemet and Edith DeVroeg of Escondido; and uncle and aunt Bruce and Lyn Pryor of Camas.
A memorial celebration of life service will be held at 4 p.m. today, May 24, at Brown's Capel of Roses in Camas.

Lou Otto, 79
VISTA - Lou M. Otto, 79, died Saturday, May 20, 2000, in Oceanside.
Born Nov. 10, 1920, in Rawlins, Wyo., she lived in Vista for 25 years. She was a homemaker and stained glass artist.
Mrs. Otto was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Otto in 1998. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Laura Otto of Oceanside and Leslie and Jim Aschonbrenner of Alaska; sisters Shirley Lee of Long Beach and Mary Jeanne Hooker of Vista; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 26, at Eternal Hills Mortuary, with Dr. Don Watson officiating. A private burial will follow at Riverside National Cemetery.

Sidney Hoffman, 88
OCEANSIDE - Sidney J. Hoffman, 88, died Saturday, May 13, 2000, in Carlsbad.
Born Nov. 7, 1911, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in Oceanside. He worked for Intercraft Industries before retiring and served as a lieutenant senior grade in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Hoffman was preceded in death by his sisters, Sylvia Kellman and Cecile Hoffman. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mildred Hoffman of Oceanside; sons and daughter-in-law Neil Hoffman of Burbank and Edward and Jewell Hoffman of Oceanside; daughter Claudia Hoffman of West Los Angeles; and grandchildren Jason, Joshua, Summer, Michelle and Amy Hoffman.
A kaddish will be held today at the family home. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.
North County Cremation is handling arrangements.

Daniel Beard, 64
ESCONDIDO - Daniel D. Beard, 64, died Sunday, May 21, 2000, in Escondido.
Born Feb. 12, 1936, in Decatur, Ill., he lived in Escondido for 15 years. He was a medical doctor, retiring in 1970 and was a member of Kenesis of Escondido.
Mr. Beard is survived by his friend of 15 years, Christine Shannon of Escondido; son James Michael Beard of North Carolina; sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Robert Stauber of Oceanside; nephew Robert Stauber III of Oceanside; and niece Susan Stauber of New York City.
A memorial service is pending at Kenesis of Escondido. A private cremation is planned with burial at sea.
The family suggests memorial donations to the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, 1094 Cudahy Place, Suite 120, San Diego, CA 92110-3932.
North County Cremation is handling arrangements.

John Powell, 64
VALLEY CENTER - John E. Powell, 64, died Sunday, May 22, 2000, in La Jolla.
Born July 10, 1935, in Lafayette, Ind., he lived in Valley Center for three years. He was a manager for RCA.
Mr. Powell is survived by his wife, Carole Powell of Valley Center; sons James Powell of Philadelphia, David Powell of Hong Kong, Bryan Powell of Portland, Ore., and Kenneth Powell of Dallas; stepson Daniel Auer of Rathdrum, Colo.; stepdaughters Cynthia Powell of Hong Kong, Michelle Ruvolo of La Habra Heights and Lisa Comeau of Los Gatos; brothers William Powell of West Lebanon, Ind., and Robert Powell of Nashua, N.H.; and 17 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. A private cremation is planned.

Mederic LaCasse, 77
TEMECULA - Mederic Albert LaCasse, 77, died Sunday, May 21, 2000, in Temecula.
Born Nov. 19, 1922, in Montreal, Canada, he lived in Temecula for 10 years. He was a bus driver for the Los Angeles RTD for 30 years and a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fallbrook and the Knights of Columbus, Council 9964 in Temecula.
Mr. LaCasse is survived by his wife of 52 years, Alice Nault LaCasse of Temecula; sons Rene LaCasse of Moorpark and Michel LaCasse of Milledgeville, Ga.; daughters Louise LaCasse-Bernargo of Mission Viejo, Ginette LaCasse of Everett, Wash., and Monique Rounsavelle of Seattle; sister Simone Hebert of Montreal; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today, May 24, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fallbrook. A private cremation is planned with interment to take place at a date to be determined at Mission San Luis Rey Cemetery.

Alexandra Baker, 8
SAN MARCOS - Alexandra Diane Baker, 8, died Sunday, May 21, 2000, after a short illness, at Children's Hospital in San Diego.
Born Sept. 30, 1991, in Escondido, she lived in San Marcos for one year. She was a student at Richland Elementary School in San Marcos.
Alexandra was preceded in death by her grandfather, Robert L. "Pa" Smith in 1997. She is survived by her mother and father, Bridgette and Todd Baker of San Marcos; grandparents Diane Blanchard of Laguna Woods, Janey Smith of Escondido, Albert and Dawn Gonzales of Vancouver, Wash., and Larry Baker of California; great-grandmothers Alice Gober of Yerington, Nev., and Violet Clarkson of Escondido; brother Zachary Baker of San Marcos; sister Arienne Baker of San Marcos; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 25, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary Chapel. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, May 26, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary Chapel. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Peter Patalino, 94
VISTA - Peter L. Patalino, 94, died Monday, May 22, 2000, in Vista.
Born Dec. 13, 1905, in Italy, he lived in Vista for 26 years. He worked for Vanwaters & Rogers, retiring in 1966.
Mr. Patalino is survived by his wife of 57 years, Josephine Patalino of Vista; and daughter and son-in-law Marianne and James Adams of Tennessee.
A private cremation is planned.
