ENCINITAS - Kathy Lenise Godfrey, 35, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, the result of an accident.
Born Jan. 23, 1965, in Knoxville, Tenn., she lived in Encinitas for 10 years. She was a financial service officer in the banking industry.
Mrs. Godfrey is survived by her mother and father Dorothy and John Godfrey of Encinitas; twin sister Karen Godfrey of Encinitas; and brothers Mark Godfrey and Reid Godfrey, both of Encinitas.
Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, May 8, at Encinitas Mortuary. A funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, at Solana Beach Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow at El Camino Memorial Park in San Diego.

Perry Ritchie, 67
ROMOLAND - Perry Lee Ritchie, 67, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, of a heart attack, at Menifee Valley Medical Center in Sun City.
Born Jan. 9, 1933, in Austin, Texas, he lived in Romoland. He was a machinist for Ritchie Brothers in Gardena for 22 years and served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955.
Mr. Ritchie is survived by his wife, Linda Ritchie of Romoland; sons Kerry Dean Ritchie, Johnny Ritchie, Kevin Ritchie, all of Sun City, and Harley Smith of Lomita; daughters Carole Weber of Sun City, Michelle Ritchie of Torrance, Anna Marie Ritchie and Michelle Troxel, both of Romoland; 17 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 8, at Miller-Jones Mortuary & Crematory in Sun City. A funeral service is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, at Miller-Jones Mortuary Chapel. A graveside service and burial will follow at 10:45 a.m. at Riverside National Cemetery.

MURRIETA - Beverly Louise DeWitt, 73, died Saturday, April 29, 2000, in Long Beach.
Born March 23, 1927, in Spokane, Wash., she lived in Murrieta for three years. She was a cartoonist for MGM Studios, drawing "Tom and Jerry."
Mrs. DeWitt is survived by her son, Carter DeWitt of Seal Beach; daughter Stephanie Siemer of Long Beach; brother Bud Weeks of Dana Point; and grandchildren Ashley DeWitt, Caitlin DeWitt and Christian DeWitt.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 7, at her home in Murrieta, with the Rev. Ted Conter officiating.

MURRIETA - Christopher Randolph Gharda, 23, died Saturday, April 29, 2000, at Rancho Springs Medical Center in Murrieta.
Born Oct. 19, 1976, in Fullerton, he lived in Murrieta for 12 years. He attended E. Hale Curran Elementary School, Shivela Middle School, Murrieta Valley High School, UC Riverside and California State University in Fullerton. He received the Tri-Lakes District Eagle Scout of the Year award in February 1991 and was a member of Delti Chi fraternity at Cal State Fullerton.
Christopher is survived by his parents, Ralph and Kathy Gharda of Murrieta; brothers Jonathan Gharda and Matt Gharda, both of Murrieta; sister Nicole Gharda of Murrieta; and fiancee and daughter Kathleen and Starr McHenry.
A funeral service was held Friday, May 5, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel in Murrieta. Burial will take place at Memory Garden Memorial Park in Brea.

FALLBROOK - Alvin R. Davis, 83, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, in Fallbrook.
Born Dec. 3, 1916, in Enid, Okla., he lived in Fallbrook for 55 years. He was a grove manager for Del Rey Avocado Co. in Fallbrook for 25 years and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife of 55 years, Valentine Mae Davis of Fallbrook; son John Davis of El Cajon; daughter Priscilla Freeland of San Diego; brother Roland Davis of Palo Alto; and five grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, at Fallbrook Masonic Cemetery. A private cremation is planned.

Born Jan. 1, 1903, in Kamrar, Iowa, he lived in Escondido for 32 years. He was a sales manager for Armour and Co. meat processors for 41 years, retiring in 1968.
Mr. Hendrickson was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Hendrickson, in 1991. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Richard W. and Shirley Hendrickson of Texas; sister Palma Bowlin of Iowa; grandchildren Christine Hendrickson of San Clemente, James Hendrickson of Mission Viejo, Julie Plummer of Texas and Laura Hendrickson of Minnesota; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation and viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, May 8, at McLeod Mortuary, Escondido Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m., with Dr. Bates J. Conklin officiating. Burial will follow the service at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Mrs. Soper was preceded in death by her husband, Richard P. Soper, in 1992. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Nancy Soper of South Carolina; daughter and son-in-law Lynn and Thomas West of Newport Coast; sister-in-law Donna Dopson of Fallbrook; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Born Dec. 29, 1913, in Jersey City, N.J., he lived in Escondido. He was a painter for 45 years and worked for Colgate-Palmolive before retiring and served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant during World War II. He was a member of Shriners and the Joslyn Senior Center of Escondido.
Mr. Stahl is survived by his wife, Lillian Stahl of Escondido; daughters Stephanie Liu of Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Lydia Gansemer of Phoenix City, Ala., and Janet Stahl of Escondido; stepson Ronald Fowler of Hillsboro, Mo.; sister Agnes Stahl of Jersey City; brothers George Stahl and Augie Stahl, both of Jersey City; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

George Kerr, 78
OCEANSIDE - George W. "Bill" Kerr, 78, died Sunday, April 30, 2000, of congestive heart failure, in Oceanside.
Born Nov. 30, 1921, in Whittier, he lived in Long Beach before moving to Oceanside 1 1/2 years ago. He worked for Pacific Maritime Assn. and served as president and vice president of the International Longshore and Warehousemen's Union for 35 years before retiring. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise in the South Pacific during World War II and in the Navy Air Reserve after the war.
Mr. Kerr is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jean Kerr of Oceanside; son and daughter-in-law David and Nancee Kerr of Escondido; daughters and son-in-law Becky and Jeff Williamson of Costa Mesa and Robyn Kerr of Oakdale; three sisters-in-law; grandchildren Jennifer, Evan, Caden, Sierra and Landen; and several nephews and nieces.
No service will be held at the request of the deceased. A private cremation is planned with cremains to be scattered at sea.

Born Jan. 7, 1920, in Alameda, she lived in Escondido for three years. She was a secretary for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory for 20 years and was an alumnus of the University of California at Berkeley.
Mrs. Wentworth is survived by her husband of 30 years, Donald Wentworth of Escondido; sons Lester Thode of New Mexico, Robert Wentworth of San Diego and Gary Wentworth of Stockton daughter Carol Gravelle of San Luis Obispo; brother Marvin Elster of Salinas; sister Nancy Shirey of Salinas; and 16 grandchildren.
A private memorial service was held Saturday, May 6, at the Wentworth home. A private burial took place at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

VISTA - William John Kappes, 84, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, in Oceanside.
Born Jan. 20, 1916, in Enochsburg, Ind., he lived in Vista for 36 years. He was a self-employed electro-mechanical engineering consultant, retiring in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was vice president of the Vista Boys & Girls Club and a member of the Vista Historical Society.
Mr. Kappes was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Jane Kappes, in August 1999. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Nicholas and Linda Kappes of Seattle; and six grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Friday, May 12, at Mission San Luis Rey Church, with the Rev. Michel Gagnon officiating. Inurnment will take place at Mission San Luis Rey Cemetery.
