T. Granger Williams, 80
SAN MARCOS - T. Granger Williams, 80, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at a local convalescent home.
Born Dec. 6, 1919, in Burley, Idaho, he lived in San Marcos for 30 years. He was founder and president of Williams Bros. Inc., a model airplane manufacturer in San Marcos, for 40 years and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics Hall of Fame and winner of AMA Championships during the 1950s and '60s.
Mr. Williams is survived by his wife of 17 years, Lorraine M. Williams of San Marcos; stepdaughters and stepsons-in-law Patricia Ann and James Rogers of Cambria, Madeleine and Carlos Medina of Solvang and Barbara Larsen of Fallbrook; sister-in-law Lucille Plank of San Marcos; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three nephews; and one niece.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 12, at Allen Brothers Mortuary, San Marcos Chapel. A private interment will take place at Fort Rosecrans National cemetery in Point Loma.

William DeWitt, 84
ESCONDIDO - William Mansel DeWitt, 84, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, in Escondido.
Born June 10, 1915, in Enloe, Texas, he lived in Escondido for 60 years. He worked for Conrock Corporation, retiring in 1977. He was a member of the Teamster's Union and a member of Oak Hill Church of Christ.
Mr. DeWitt is survived by his wife of 59 years, Imogene DeWitt of Escondido; sons and daughters-in-law Rodney M. DeWitt of Americus, Ga., and David and Donna DeWitt of Escondido; daughter Diane Tustin of Escondido; brother Gene DeWitt of Sulfur Springs, Texas; sisters Louise McLary of Palores Park, Ill., and Wilma Sibert of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren Todd Tustin of Temecula, Ryan and Adam DeWitt and Brian McDaniels, all of Escondido, Christopher DeWitt of Americus, Bobby DeWitt of California and Lisa McDaniels of San Diego; six great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 12, at Oak Hill Church of Christ in Escondido, with the Rev. Tom Burch officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Daniel O'Malley, 66
ESCONDIDO - Daniel L. O'Malley, 66, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, in Escondido.
Born Jan. 19, 1934, in Hollywood, he lived in Escondido for 34 years. He attended Notre Dame University and Santa Monica City College and was a self-employed land surveyor with O'Malley & Shurtliff and Princess Homes in Los Angeles and O'Malley & Associates. He served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. O'Malley is survived by his wife of 14 years, Joan O'Malley of Escondido; son Kevin O'Malley of San Diego; stepson Steve Woods of San Diego; daughter Anne O'Malley; stepdaughters Marla Harris of Pacific Beach and Gina Collins of Escondido; and two grandchildren.
Visitation and viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 11, at McLeod Mortuary Chapel. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, May 12, at Resurrection Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

William Kappes, 84
VISTA - William John Kappes, 84, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, in Oceanside.
Born Jan. 20, 1916, in Enochsburg, Ind., he lived in Vista for 36 years. He was a self-employed electro-mechanical engineering consultant, retiring in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was vice president of the Vista Boys & Girls Club and a member of the Vista Historical Society.
Mr. Kappes was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Jane Kappes, in August 1999. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Nicholas and Linda Kappes of Seattle, Ronald and Stephanie Kappes of Fallbrook and Greg Kappes of Vista; sisters Christine Kahle of Ocala, Fla., and Alma Eary of Cincinnati; and seven grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Friday, May 12, at Mission San Luis Rey Church Old Chapel, with the Rev. Michel Gagnon officiating. Inurnment will take place at Mission San Luis Rey Cemetery.

SUN CITY - Virginia May Roybal, 71, died Monday, May 1, 2000, at Hemet Valley Medical Center.
Born Dec. 19, 1928, in Los Angeles, she lived in Sun City for 28 years. She was a dietary supervisor at Inland Valley Medical Center in Murrieta for 22 years. She was a member of the Wolf Rescue Federation.
Mrs. Roybal is survived by her sons David Riley, Michael Riley and Robert Riley; daughters Vanessa Fowler and Valerie Morris; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

George Kerr, 78
OCEANSIDE - George W. "Bill" Kerr, 78, died Sunday, April 30, 2000, of congestive heart failure, in Oceanside.
Born Nov. 30, 1921, in Whittier, he lived in Oceanside for 1 1/2 years. He worked for Pacific Maritime Assn. before retiring in 1981. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise in the South Pacific during World War II and in the Navy Air Reserve after the war. He served as president and vice president of the Union Service International Longshore and Warehousemen's Union for 35 years before retiring.
Mr. Kerr is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jean Kerr of Oceanside; son and daughter-in-law David and Nancee Kerr of Escondido; daughters and son-in-law Becky and Jeff Williamson of Costa Mesa and Robyn Kerr of Oakdale; three sisters-in-law; grandchildren Jennifer, Evan, Caven, Sierra and Landen; and several nephews and nieces.
No service will be held at the request of the deceased. A private cremains is planned with cremains to be scattered at sea.

FALLBROOK - Stuart Franklin Gast, 69, died Saturday, March 18, 2000, in Fallbrook.
Born March 31, 1930, in Williamsport Pa., he lived in Fallbrook for 32 years. He was an Episcopal minister for 43 years and served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Fallbrook and served as executive director of the Joselyn Fallbrook Senior Center.
Mr. Gast is survived by his wife of 30 years, Joan Carol Heinrichs Gast of Fallbrook; son Stephen Gast of Oceanport, N.J.; daughters Catherine Earl of Seaville, N.J., Rebecca Ranalli of Quito, Ecuador, and Sara Fairfield of Irvine; and 10 grandchildren.
A private cremation was held with cremains scattered at sea off the coast of San Diego County.

Born May 3, 1924, in New York City, she lived in Escondido for 10 years. She was a secretary and worked for an interior design company in Long Island City, N.Y.
Mrs. Cohen is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Gwen Cohen of La Costa and Mitchell and Terry Cohen of Roswell, Ga.; and grandchildren Daniel and Robert Cohen of La Costa and Matthew Cohen of Roswell.

CARLSBAD - Josephine L. Sahagun, 85, died Saturday, April 29, 2000, in Carlsbad.
Born May 30, 1914, in Arizona, she lived in Carlsbad. She was a homemaker for 65 years.
Mrs. Sahagun was preceded in death by her husband, Julian Sahagun, in 1972. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Eron and Christina Sahagun of Carlsbad and Rudy and Nadiene Sahagun of Vista; daughter and son-in-law Linda and Kenneth Watch of Oklahoma; brother Henry Adams of Magallia; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

PAUMA VALLEY - John Marcus Gardner, 88, died Saturday, April 29, 2000, at Palomar Medical Center.
Born Dec. 24, 1911, in Topeka, Kan., he lived in Pauma Valley for nine months. He worked for Phillips Petroleum Co., Ideco, Delta Drilling Co., and quest Exploration before retiring and was a member of Chapelwood United Methodist Church in Houston. He was also a member of Tau Beta Pi, Theta Tau, Beta Theta Pi, and Pauma Valley Country Club. He served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Gardner is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorthy Charline of Pauma Valley; son Charles Mark Gardner of Dallas; daughter and son-in-law Marilyn and Jack Woods of Pauma Valley; grandchildren Brent and Laurie Woods of San Diego, Bo and Jennifer Woods of Burbank and Jamie and Brad Coberley of Valley Center; and great-grandchildren Maddie Sophie and Calvin woods of San Diego and Bayley and Carly Coberley of Valley Center.
