Doris Johnston, 80

SAN MARCOS - Doris F. Johnston, 80, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at Palomar Hospital. Born Sept. 9, 1920, in Colorado, she lived in San Marcos for 23 years.
She was a reservation clerk for United Airlines, retiring in 1982. She was a graduate from Escondido High, class of 1938.
Ms. Johnston was preceded in death by her sister, Lois Tucker. She is survived by sister and brothers-in-law Loellen and James Rusconi of Alameda and James Tucker of Escondido; nephews Brian Tucker of Escondido and Lee Rusconi of Humbolt County; and nieces Julie Brunt of San Ramon and Jane Keltner of Castro Valley.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. today, March 3, at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Escondido.
Telophase Cremation Society is handling arrangements.

Margaret 'Margi' Blake

Jan. 9, 1917 - Feb. 27, 2001
Margi Blake died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at her home in Oceanside.
She was born in Longmont, Colo., on Jan. 9, 1917. Margi was a long time resident of Oceanside, moving to the area after she married her husband, Bill Blake, on Nov. 24, 1963. Margi and Bill owned Oceanside Electric until his death in 1989.
She is survived by her sons, Jim Rathburn of Vista and Jack Rathburn of Del Mar; daughter and son-in-law Vicki and Ron Ruiz of Las Vegas; grandchildren Sarah and Rachel Rathburn, Fauna Randolph and Michael Ruiz; great-grandchildren Anthony, Cody and Tiffani Randolph.
Margi devoted a great part of her life in service to recovering alcoholics. She had a tremendous impact on countless lives, and she will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
An informal memorial meeting will be held at 2 p.m. March 18, at the Carlsbad Harding Community Center.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made in Margi's name to Tri-City Hospice, 2095 W. Vista Way, Suite 101, Vista, CA 92083.
Robert Joseph Kirchner

ESCONDIDO - Robert Joseph Kirchner, 68, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at Palomar Medical Center.
Born Nov. 11, 1932, in Los Angeles, Mr. Kirchner lived in Escondido for the last nine years.
A 1950 graduate of Los Angeles High School, he worked as a civilian at Edwards Air Force Base until his induction into the Army in 1952. After basic training in Aberdeen, Md., Mr. Kirchner served for two years as a helicopter mechanic at San Marcos, Texas, and at the Presidio in San Francisco.
After his honorable discharge in 1954, Mr. Kirchner worked as a lineman for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph and attended Los Angeles City College.
He married the former Margaret Silber in 1955. Mr. Kirchner earned a bachelor's degree from Los Angeles State College in 1961, and joined IBM Corp. where he became a systems analyst. Over the next 28 years, he worked for IBM in Los Angeles, White Plaines, N.Y., and Bethesda, Md.
He retired in December 1988. Mr. Kirchner was a member of the Escondido Elks Lodge 1687, a charter lifetime member of the American Motorcycle Association, a member of the Goldwing Riders Association and a member of the Retreads Motorcycle Club.
Mr. Kirchner is survived by his daughter, Kristi Merritt of Manassas, Va.; son and daughter-in-law Robert A. and Patricia Kirchner of Dallas, Texas; grandsons Brett and Stephen Kirchner of Dallas; sister-in-law Carol Ellestad of Vista; and four nieces
A private cremation is planned

William Green Jr., 74
MURRIETA - William L. Green Jr., 74, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at his home of cancer.
Born Sept. 17, 1926, in Waterbury, Conn., he lived in Murrieta for three years. He was previously from Moreno Valley, Sun City for nine years. He retired in 1987 from Westinghouse Electric after 10 years. He served in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant for 25 years.
Mr. Green is survived by his wife, Janet V. Green of Murrieta; daughter and son-in-law Deborah L. and Oscar T. Snodgrass of Perris; sons and daughters-in-law William H. Green and Natalie Gonzalez of Washington, Robin C. Green and Amy Coreen of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Thomas V. Green of New Hampshire; brothers Frederick Green of Wolcott, Conn., and Daniel L. Green of Bristol, Conn.; sisters Bery L. Tuckey of Naugatuck, Conn., and Shirley Pearson of Southington, Conn.; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, at Fort Rosecrans National cemetery in San Diego.
The family suggests memorial donations to Ramona Visiting Nurses Association and Hospice, 890 W. Stetson Ave., Suite A, Hemet, CA 92543.

Erylene Adams, 80
SUN CITY - R. Erylene Adams, 80, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at Menifee Valley Medical Center.
Born June 17, 1920, in Westwood, she lived in Sun City for one year. She was raised and educated in San Bernardino. She also lived in Hesperia and Bullhead City, Ariz., for 10 years. She owned "The Knit Shop" in Bullhead City. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, making quilts and knitting. She enjoyed all arts and crafts and was a doll collector. She was a member of the Historical Society of Buena Park, the Red Cross of Orange County and Coast Guard Auxiliary of Bullhead City. She was a volunteer teacher with Park Recreation of Orange County.
Mrs. Adams is survived by her husband of 60 years, David Adams of Sun City; daughter Sharon Milligan of Mexico; son Jerry Adams of San Diego; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, March 9, at Riverside National Cemetery, staging area 1.

James Rodgers, 71
TEMECULA - James Rodgers, 71, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at Rancho Springs Medical Center of a heart attack.
Born Oct. 28, 1929, in Plaingrove, Pa., he lived in Temecula for seven years. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1971, serving since 1951, as a master chief. He was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church.
Mr. Rodgers is survived by his wife of 48 years, Roberta Rodgers, of Temecula; daughters Debra Morris of Chiapas, Mexico, Sandra Gilkey and Cheryl Hurd, both of Temecula; sisters Mary Jenkins and Gerry Kerr, both of Newcastle, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Viewing is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to noon, and funeral at noon, Monday, Feb. 5, at Gospel Light Baptist Church. Interment will be at 2:45 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at Riverside National Cemetery, staging area 4.

McRoy Brooks, 56
VISTA - McRoy Brooks, 56, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at his home.
Born March 11, 1944, in Mullins, S.C., he lived in Vista for 23 years. He was disabled for the last 20 years.
Mr. Brooks was preceded in death by Mark Brooks and Mary Buchanan. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Shirley A. Brooks of Vista; mother Inez Brooks of Dillon, S.C. son Kenneth Brooks of San Diego; daughters Sherry Patterson, Charlene Brooks and Pamela Penner, all of Vista; brother Murdick Brooks of Dillon, S.C.; sisters Lsettadot Thompson and Joanne Huggins, both of Dillon S.C.; and six grandchildren.
A graveside service is scheduled for 2 p.m. today, Feb. 5, at Fallbrook Masonic Cemetery.

Gregory Serpa, 44
TEMECULA - Gregory R. Serpa, 44, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, in Escondido of cancer.
Born Sept. 8, 1956, in Spokane, Wash., he lived in Temecula for one year and was previously from Escondido for 20 years. He owned an appliance repair business in Temecula. He had worked at Markstein Beverage Co. in San Marcos for many years.
Mr. Serpa is survived by his mother Carol Serpa; father Duane Serpa, both of Twin Falls, Idaho; brother and sister-in-law Richard L. and Michele Serpa of Phoenix; and nephew Ryan Serpa of Phoenix.
A private cremation is planned.
The family suggests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, 2655 Camino Del Rio N, Suite 100, San Diego, CA 92108.

Helen Wolfe, 97
SUN CITY - Helen S. Wolfe, 97, died Thursday, March 1, 2001, at her home.
Born Aug. 28, 1903, in Laurel, Neb., she lived in Sun City for 25 years. She was a homemaker for 56 years. She was a member of the shuffle board group in Hemet.
Mrs. Wolfe is survived by her daughter, Bonnadene Chapin of Richland; son Kenneth Wolfe of Sun City; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, at Rose Hills Memorial Park.

Frank Alvillar, 59
TEMECULA - Frank Galindo Alvillar, 59, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, in Fallbrook.
Born May 3, 1941, in Chihuahua, Mexico, he lived in Temecula for five years. He worked for 38 years as a cement mason for Modern Mason. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years.
Mr. Alvillar is survived by his wife, Maria Alvillar; son Michael F. Alvillar; and daughter Emily Alvillar, all of Temecula.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints.

Gregory Serpa, 44
TEMECULA - Gregory R. Serpa, 44, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, in Escondido of cancer.

Carl Rumin, 91
ESCONDIDO - Carl Werner Rumin, 91, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, in Vista.
Born Dec. 15, 1909, Denver, Colo., he lived in Escondido for 47 years. He was a self-employed painting contractor and a master Mason since 1948. He was a past master of Lakewood 170. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Rumin was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Rumin on March 21, 2000. She is survived by sons James M. Rumin of Aurora, Colo., and David Rumin of Denver, Colo.; daughter L. Diane Chapman of 5491 W. Warren Ave. #114, Denver, CO 80222; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
No formal services will be held in Escondido. A private scattering on the mountain top in Colorado where they met will take place in May.
The family suggests memorial donations to National Federation of the Blind, 2232 S. Broadway, Denver, CO 80210.

Troy Click, 79
CARLSBAD - Troy Click, 79, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at his home.
Born in 1921, in Stanton, Neb., he lived in Carlsbad and Escondido for 20 years. Previously he lived 20 years in the Los Angeles area and 10 years in Orange County. In served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in the Philippines and into the occupation of Japan as an army engineer. He worked for various aircraft builders, before and after the war. He enjoyed traveling and built homes in various places including Mexico.
Mr. Click is survived by his wife, Sally J. Click; daughters and sons-in-law Corine and Courtland Frye and Teresa and Vincent Clay; grandchildren Chris, Cassie, Kevin and Galen; and great-grandchildren Courtland and John.
A memorial service was held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, at Hope Chapel, Forest Lawn in Cypress.
The family suggests memorial donations to Vitas Hospice, 8880 San Diego, San Diego, CA 93108.

Molly Bacon, 1
PALM DESERT - Molly Susan Bacon, 1, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001.
Born Dec. 2, 1999, in Fallbrook, she lived in Palm Desert for one year.
She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Julie Susan Bacon in June 1999. She is survived by mother, Sarah Kathleen Bacon of Palm Desert; grandfather Jeffrey A. Bacon of Cathedral City; and aunt Rebecca Ruth Bacon of Murrieta.
Visitation was held at 4 p.m. with funeral at 5 p.m. Friday, March 2, at Berry-Bell and Hall Fallbrook Mortuary.

Helen Alther, 76
SUN CITY - Helen Evelyn Alther, 76, died Friday, March 2, 2001, at her home of cancer.
Born April 16, 1924, in Los Angeles, she lived in Sun City for 13 years. She worked for Huntington Valley Baptist Church in Fountain Valley, as a secretary for 10 years. She was in the choir at First Baptist Church in Sun City. She enjoyed making dolls and traveling.
Mrs. Alther was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Alther. She is survived by her daughters, Elaine Eiler and Sylvia Murphy, both of Springfield, Ore.; sons Allen Sheehan of Placentia and Joel Sheehan of Tustin; brother Clayton Durbin of Wichita, Kan.; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. and service at 10 a.m. March 6, at Miller-Jones Mortuary Inc. with the Rev. Robert G. Dalrymple officiating. Burial will be at 11:15 a.m. March 6, at Riverside National Cemetery.
