M. Earl Burtness, 63
ESCONDIDO - M Earl Burtness, 63, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, from an accident at home.
Born May 27, 1937, in Chicago, he lived in Escondido for 25 years. He was an air traffic controller for 32 years. He was a member of Airplane Owners and Pilots Association.
Mr. Burtness is survived by his wife of 34 years, Marianne Burtness of Escondido; sons Mark Burtness of Los Angeles and Todd Burtness of Huntington Beach; daughters and son-in-law Kathy Burtness of Escondido and Beverly and Pat McGuirk of Escondido; sisters Ruth Clopp of La Crescenta and Bonnie Hanks of Glendale; and five grandchildren.
A funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday March 3, 2001, at Light and Life Free Methodist Church. A private burial will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, March 5, at Forest Lawn cemetery in Hollywood.
The family suggests memorial donations to Light and Life Church and School Building Fund, 110 N. Ash, Escondido, CA 92027.

Richard Paxton, 81
SAN MARCOS - Richard Bruce Paxton, 81, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001.
Born Dec. 1, 1919, in Lakewood, Ohio, he lived in San Marcos for three years and was previously from Escondido for 52 years.
He was a mason's tender for Paxton Masonary for 20 years.
He served in the U.S. Army and received the Purple Heart medal, serving in World War II.
Mr. Paxton is survived by his wife of 61 years, Hattie Paxton of Escondido; sons and daughters-in-law Kenneth and Penny Paxton of Valley Center, Lawrence and Pam Paxton of Escondido and William and Linda Paxton of Portland, Ore.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Viewing is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 4, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary.
A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, March 5, at St. Timothy's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Lorraine Ethridge, 73
LA MESA - Lorraine ³Lorrie² Ethridge, 73, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Grossmont Hospital.
Born Sept. 9, 1927, in New Orleans, La., she lived in La Mesa for 1 1/2 years and was formerly of San Diego for 56 years.
She did volunteer collections for numerous nonprofit organizations, including Muscular Dystrophy Association, Easter Seals and March of Dimes. She was one of ³Jerry's Kids,² having muscular dystrophy herself. She was a homemaker for 56 years.
Mrs. Ethridge is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law John ³Jack² and Claire Abernethy of Escondido, James ³Jim² Abernethy of Fullerton and Richard Wayne and Jeanette Abernethy of Valley Center; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
No services will be held at the request of the deceased. Her body was donated to UCSD School of Medicine in La Jolla, at her request.
The family suggests memorial donations to Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), 8525 Gibbs Dr., San Diego, CA 92123.

Robert Boettcher, 69
SUN CITY - Robert Glen Boettcher, 69, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at Menifee Valley Medical Center.
Born April 13, 1931, in Milwaukee, he lived in Sun City for three years. He worked for the state of California in Los Angeles as an electrician for 25 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean conflict.
Mr. Boettcher is survived by his wife, Billie Boettcher of Sun City; daughter Robin Brown of Phoenix; son Richard Luther of Ishpeming, Mich.; brother Theodore Boettcher of Phoenix; sister Rosemary Smith of Carson City, Nev.; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, March 8, at Riverside National cemetery in Riverside.

John Connor Jr., 73
TEMECULA - John F. Connor Jr., 73, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at his home.
Born March 22, 1927, in Philadelphia, he lived in Temecula since 1998 and previously in Claremont from 1978 to 1998. He had worked for Atlantic Richfield Co. as a purchasing agent. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a Eucharist minister and coordinator of RCIA at Our Lady of Assumption Church in Claremont and St. Catherine's Church in Temecula. He was a member of Knights of Colombus.
Mr. Connor is survived by his wife, Mary Connor of Temecula; daughter Maureen Carlson of Temecula; son Michael Connor of Clifton, Va.; and five grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 9:15 to 10 a.m. with a funeral Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at Our Lady of Assumption Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross cemetery in Pomona.
The family suggests memorial donations to Celiac Disease Foundation, 13251 Ventura Blvd. Suite 1, Studio City, CA 91604.

Benny Robles, 55
CARLSBAD - Benny Robles, 55, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, in Phoenix, Ariz., of complications caused by diabetes.
Born Sept. 27, 1945, in Tempe, Ariz., he lived in Carlsbad and Black Canyon City, Ariz.
Mr. Robles was preceded in death by his mother, Anita Duran Valasquez father Humberto Robles and brother Joseph Chavez. He is survived by his son Norman Robles of Black Canyon City, Ariz.; daughter Alice Robles of Vista; Robert Martinez of Black Canyon City, Israel Herrera Jr. and Able Herrera of Phoenix and Felex Herrera of Vista; sisters Linda Chavez Gonzalez of Phoenix and Lupe Chavez Foresty and Sandra Herrera Charriez, both of Sun City; and numerous nephews and nieces.
A private cremation is planned with scattering in Gilia Bend Arizona with Robert Martinez officiating.
The family suggests memorial donations to the American Diabetes Association, 225 Broadway, Suite 310, San Diego, CA 92101.

Marcella Crow, 76

ESCONDIDO - Marcella Mary Crow, 76, died Thursday, March 1, 2001, at her home of Alzheimer's disease.
Born June 2, 1924, in Marshall, Minn., she lived in Escondido.
She was a homemaker and a member of Resurrection Church.
Mrs. Crow is survived by her husband of 54 years, Franklin Crow of Escondido; sons and daughters-in-law Randall Jay and Carol Crow of Ohio, Chad William and Marilyn Crow of Minnesota and John David Crow of San Diego; daughters and sons-in-law Rebecca Ann Crow of Del Mar, Susan J. and Nick Flann of Utah, Jennifer Lee and Tom Wilson of West Virginia, Lisa Marie and Brad Nelson of Illinois, Carolyn Joan and Keith Koskan of Utah, and Kelly Jean Crow of West Virginia; six brothers; six sisters; 26 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, March 5, at Resurrection Church with the Rev. Chuck officiating.
Interment will take place at a later date at Fort Rosecrans National cemetery in Point Loma.
The family suggests memorial donations to Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association, 3686 Fourth Ave., San Diego, CA 92103.

David Miller Jr., 93

ESCONDIDO - David D. Miller Jr., 93, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001.
Born March 12, 1907, in Middletown, Conn., he lived in San Diego County for 27 years.
He was an owner and operator of a bicycle shop for 20 years.
Mr. Miller is survived by his wife of seven years, Nancy E. Miller of Escondido; daughters Joyclen Ramos of Somis and Shirley Dunn of Missouri; stepdaughter Ann Keener of Anaheim; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A private interment will take place at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier.

Marguerite Prince, 84

CARDIFF - Marguerite C. Prince, 84, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at her home.
Born Feb. 1, 1917, in Los Angeles, she lived in Cardiff for 43 years.
She was a former resident of Riverside and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Prince is survived by her husband, William A.D. Prince of Cardiff; daughter Barbara Joanne Prince of Cardiff; grandsons Brett and wife Aerian Gorke of San Clemente, Joshua Arend of Cardiff; and great-grandson Christian and Kaelln Gorke.
Private service is planned with interment at Riverside National cemetery in Riverside.

Kirk McCarthy, 43

BLACK CANYON CITY, Ariz. - Kirk P. McCarthy, 43, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001.
Born on March 13, 1957, he moved to Arizona in 1989 from Oceanside. He was a telecommunication installation specialist. He graduated from Benedictine High School in 1976, where he starred in track and football. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1976 to 1983.
Mr. McCarthy was preceded in death by his father, Thomas McCarthy. He is survived by his wife, Carol McCarthy; mother Eleanor MaCarthy; stepdaughters and husbands Courtney and Ron Alston of Anchorage, Alaska, Beverly and Kevin Tremayne of Carson City, Nev., and Barbara and Rob Aldridge of Escondido; brothers Scott, Keith, Mark and Craig; sisters Maureen MaCarthy, Colleen Rebant, Janeen Foreman; and grandchildren Rebbeca Alston, Thomas Alston, Brittany Alston, Allen Tremayne, Chandra Tremayne, Ryan Tremayne, Amanda Aldridge and Tyler Aldridge.
A Mass in celebration of Mr. McCarthy's life was held on Friday, March 2, at St. Philip Benizi Church in Black Canyon City.
The family suggests memorial donations in Mr. McCarthy's name to St. Philip Benizi Church, 34621 Old Black Canyon Highway, PO Box 138, Black Canyon City, AZ 85324.

Irene Miller, 95

ESCONDIDO - Irene Miller, 95, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, of natural causes.
Born July 2, 1905, in Dalton, Ohio, she lived in Escondido for 30 years. She retired as a elementary school teacher in 1970. She graduated from UCLA in 1928 and taught school for 36 years in the Los Angeles Unified School District. She was active in many community organizations including the California Retired Teachers Association.
Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her husband, Graham Miller in 1989. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law John Miller of Northridge and Kenneth and Karen Miller of Escondido; brother Harold Hofstetter of Gainesville, Fla.; and grandchildren Jeffrey, Michael and Brandon.
No services will be held at the request of the deceased.
The family suggests memorial donations to Irene H. Miller Endowment for Future Elementary Educators c/o Kenneth H. Miller, 1766 S. Escondido Blvd., Escondido, CA 92025.

Mignonne Kircher, 95

ENCINITAS - Mignonne Miller Kircher, 95, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at Scripps memorial Hospital.
Born in Detroit, Mich., she lived in Encinitas for 21 years. She had worked as a legal secretary with Bank of America.
Mrs. Kircher is survived by her husband, John G. Kircher of Encinitas.
Private services have been held with cremation and scattering at sea.

Duane Click, 78

ESCONDIDO - Duane Louis Click, 78, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at Oak Hill Residential Care Facility.
Born Aug. 8, 1922, in New Rockford, N.D., he lived in Escondido for 30 years.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a naval aviator and retired after 29 years of service as a lieutenant commander. He served during World War II, the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War.
Mr. Click is survived by his wife of 55 years, Bitzar A. Click of Escondido; son and daughter-in-law Barry and Cheryl Click of Escondido; sister Roberta Phar of Saluda, N.C.; and grandchildren Ross W. Click of Escondido and Ashley M. Click of Big Fork, Mont.
A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, March 4, at Cathedral of the Valley Foursquare Church.
A private interment will be held at Fort Rosecrans National cemetery in Point Loma
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations in Mr. Click#'s name, to LOVE Fund, Cathedral of the Valley Foursquare Church, 927 Idaho Ave., Escondido, CA 92025.

Joseph Burke, 55

FALLBROOK - Joseph Edward Burke, 55, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, in San Diego. Born Dec. 26, 1945, in Quincy, Mass., he lived in Fallbrook for 20 years.
He owned an import/export business for seven years. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and of the Retired Officer's Association.
He served as a major in the U.S. Marine Corps for 20 years and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Mr. Burke was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Marie Burke in 1998.
He is survived by son Matthew Burke of Colorado; daughter Audrey Calderwood of Murrietta; brother Dom Burke of North Carolina; sisters Jini Burke of Massachusetts, Jan Erlandson of Texas and Jo Anne Reilly of Seattle, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and two nephews
Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Feb. 28, at Berry-Bell & Hall Fallbrook Mortuary.
A Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 1, at St. Peter's Catholic Church.
Burial was at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 1, at Riverside National Cemetery
