Mildred Smith, 80
OCEANSIDE - Mildred Irene Smith, 80, died Friday, June 8, 2001, at Tri-City Medical Center.
Born in St. Paul, Minn., she lived in Oceanside for 15 years. She was retired from Twin Inns Restaurant as a bookkeeper and hostess. She had been a member of the Optimist club and the Emblem Club for more than 25 years.
Ms. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Charles "Bomber" Smith. She is survived by her son Jimmy Smith of Oceanside; brother and sister-in-law Earl and Janet Callander of Idaho; grandchildren Kelly Smith, Deana Smith, Tanya Smith and Richard Smith; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation and viewing were held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, at Eternal Hills. Funeral service was at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, at Eternal Hills Chapel. Interment followed at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.
Eternal Hills Mortuary handled arrangements.

Michael Rogers, 62
ESCONDIDO - Michael F. Rogers, 62, died Monday, June 11, 2001, at his home.
Born Sept. 19, 1938, in Clay Center, Kan., he lived in Escondido for 21 years. He was self-employed as a magician for trade shows. He was a graduate of Miramar Jr. College and retired from the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Rogers is survived by his wife of 43 years, Betty Rogers of Escondido; mother Felice and her husband Don Moller of Silver Springs, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law Lea Ann and Randy Drinkward of Vista; sister and brother-in-law Marilyne and Jake Hoogerwoerd of Ocala, Fla.; and grandchildren Jenna, Hailey, and Conner Drinkward.
A memorial service is schedule for 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 15, at Emmanuel Faith Community Church with the Rev. Greg Lane officiating. Graveside service with military honors is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, June 15, at Oak Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Lane officiating.
The family suggests memorial donations to the Elizabeth Hospice, 150 W. Crest St., Escondido, CA 92025.

Fidel Villasenor, 82
ESCONDIDO - Fidel Villasenor, 82, died Sunday, June 10, 2001.
Born Oct. 17, 1919, in Mexico, he lived in Escondido for 21 years. He was self-employed and enjoyed cooking, knitting, horsebreeding, farming, gardening, photography, music and reading the Bible.
Mr. Villasenor is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary F. Villasenor of Escondido; sons and daughter-in-law Dennis and Nancy Villasenor of Glendora and Mike Villasenor of Minnesota; daughters and sons-in-law Virginia and Ryan Scharbarth of Carlsbad, Marylou and Joe Stephenson of Escondido and Cristina and William Wagner of Vista; brother Zeke Villasenor of Oklahoma City; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. today, June 14, at Church of the Resurrection. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Frances Bruce, 79
VISTA - Frances Martina Bruce, 79, died Monday, June 11, 2001, at her home.
Born Jan. 29, 1922, in East St. Louis, Ill., she lived in San Diego County for 48 years. She was a secretary for 25 years, most recently with the American Red Cross.
Mrs. Bruce was preceded in death by her husband, Enoch Gordon Bruce, in 1992. She is survived by her son, John G. Bruce of Vista; daughters and sons-in-law Catherine and Bill Ott of San Diego and Margaret and Mitch Freese of Windsor; sister Marguerite Rekamp of O'Fallon, Ill.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation and viewing is scheduled from 3 to 8 p.m. today, June 14, at Allen Bros. Mortuary, San Marcos Chapel. A funeral service is schedule for 10 a.m. Friday, June 15, at Allen Bros. Mortuary, San Marcos Chapel, in San Marcos. Burial will follow at San Marcos cemetery in San Marcos.

Mary Richardson, 85
VISTA - Mary M. Richardson, 85, died Monday, June 11, 2001, at her home.
Born May 10, 1916, in Hallock, Minn., she lived in Vista for 40 years.
Mrs. Richardson was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hammel, in 1954. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Terry and Robert Bedford of Vista and Kathy Veateh of Bakersfield; sister-in-law Ruth Inglis of San Diego; grandchildren Steve Bedford, Scott Bedford, Mike Bedford, Linda Brehove, Cindy Benson and Tracy Glatt; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, June 18, at Eternal Hills Mortuary in Oceanside with the Rev. Ryan Perkins officiating. Inurnment will follow at Eternal Hills cemetery with the Rev. Perkins officiating.

Janet Adams, 88
ESCONDIDO - Janet S. Adams, 88, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at her home of Alzheimer's disease.
Born Feb. 16, 1913, in Seattle, Wash., she lived in Escondido for 31 years. She was a retired teacher from Grace Lutheran School and a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Adams is survived by her husband, Ralph D. Adams of Escondido; son Roger Adams of Escondido; daughter Andrea Mulligan of Suwanee Ga.; and grandson Gregory Mulligan.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. today, June 14, at Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jim Young officiating.
The family suggests memorial donations to the Hispanic Ministry at Grace Lutheran Church, 643 W. 13th Ave., Escondido, CA 92025.

Dayle Rushall, 52
ENCINITAS - Dayle Bradley Rushall, 52, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, of cancer.
Born May 23, 1949, in La Jolla, he was self-employed.
Mr. Rushall is survived by his mother, Roberta A. Rushall of Del Mar; father Lawrence J. Rushall of Del Mar; and brothers Bruce J. Rushall of Encinitas and sister-in-law Eileen M. Rushall of Encinitas.
A private cremation is planned.

VISTA - Apolonia Perez, 81, died Monday, June 11, 2001, at Pleasant Care Convalescent Hospital of natural causes.
She was born April 10, 1920, in Nachisttan, Zac. Mexico, on La Sinegita Ranch. She was a member of the Catholic Church.
Ms. Perez is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Gregg and Lisa Perez of Vista; grandchildren Paula, Greg, Gabriel, Sarah and Andrew; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday, June 15, at Eternal Hills Mortuary in Oceanside.

Helen Garza, 79
VISTA - Helen Garza, 79, died Monday, June 11, 2001.
Born Sept. 4, 1921, in Yorktown, Texas, she lived in Vista for 16 years.
Mrs. Garza is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Lupe and Celia Garza of Mira Loma; daughters and sons-in-law Dian Garza of Vista; Lillie and Andy Guerrero of Ontario; Erma and Sam Agular of San Marcos and Sylvia Haskell of San Diego; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Private family services are planned.

Darlene Allabach, 93
VISTA - Darlene Feese Allabach, 93, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at Life Care Center of Vista.
Born April 10, 1908, in Iowa, she lived in Vista for 28 years. She was retired from California Federal Savings and Loan where she had been an escrow secretary. She was a member of the Order of the White Shrine and the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years.
Mrs. Allabach was preceded in death by her husband, Charles F. Allabach, in 1990. She is survived by her sons, Dudley Duane Hutchison of Moorpark and Wallace E. Hutchison of Sun City; brother L. Maurice Feese of Hampton, Iowa; grandchildren Wendy Halderman and Celeste Hutchison; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, June 16, at United Methodist Church of Vista with the Rev. Ken Johnstone officiating. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 18, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park. A private cremation is planned.
The family suggests memorial donations to the American Heart Association, 3640 Fifth Ave., San Diego, CA 92103.

Dr. Raymond R. Halik
Dr. Raymond Halik was a resident of New Providence, N.J. for over 30 years before moving with his wife to Carlsbad, in 1999. Dr. Halik died on 6/13/2001 at the age of 84, after a brief bout with pancreatic cancer. He was born on a farm in Kilkenny, Minnesota, the youngest of six children. He graduated B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota with honors including membership in the honor societies: Tau Beta Pi and Phi Lamda Epsilon. His graduate work at Carnegie Mellon earned him a Ph.D. degree in 1948.
He spent almost 40 years in the chemical and petroleum industries before retiring as a "consulting engineer" from Mobil Oil Co in 1981. During this time he was active (including officer positions) in many technical societies (National Society of Professional Engineers, American Chemical Society, American Institute of Chemical Engineers) as well as several civic and religious organizations. More recently, he has been an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Summit Old Guard, and the American Red Cross. He is the holder of 17 patents and has been listed in "American Men and Women of Science."
He is survived by his loving wife, Elaine, two sons, Raymond and David, one daughter, Susan Calvert and four grandchildren, Jamie, Carolyn, Rebecca and Stephen. He and his wife just celebrated their 56th anniversary.
Funeral services will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Carlsbad on 6/15/2001 at 2 p.m. A private interment will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the sender's favorite charity.

Leonard Pigott, 83
WILLIAMSPORT, Md. - Leonard Davies Pigott, 83, died Friday, June 1, 2001, at Washington County Hospital.
Born June 5, 1917, in San Antonio, Texas, he was previously from Oceanside. He was a 1933 graduate of Brownsville High School in Brownsville, Texas. He graduated from American University in Washington, D.C. and received his bachelor's degree in 1949. He received his master's degree from UCLA in 1964. He retired in 1976 as an information specialist for the chief of police for the city of Los Angeles. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of AARP, Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion of Oceanside.
Mr. Pigott was preceded in death by his brothers, Arthur W. Pigott Jr., and Raymond L. Pigott. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Taylor Brockman Pigott; and sister Eloise Palmer of Kerrville, Texas.
No formal services are planned.
The family suggests memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Association, 5 Public Square, Hagerstown, MD 21740 or to Williamsport Ambulance Service, 30 W. Salisbury St., Williamsport, MD 21795.

Alice Harvey, 75
OCEANSIDE - Alice Harvey, 75, died Friday, June 8, 2001, at Life Care Center in Vista.
Born March 26, 1926, in Chelsea, Mass., she lived in Oceanside for 33 years. She was retired from Bank of America and was a member of Elks Emblem Club, serving two terms as an officer.
Mrs. Harvey is survived by her husband of 52 years, Gerry Harvey of Oceanside; sons William G. Harvey Jr. of Pittsboro, N.C., and Russell E. Harvey of Cranford, N.J.; daughter Debra Ann Allen of San Marcos; brother William H. Curtis Jr. of Lynn, Mass.; sister Eleanor Bonnano of Framingham, Mass.; grandchildren Victoria, Vannesa, Matthew, Russell and Louis; and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at San Luis Rey Mission Church with the Rev. Michel Gagnon officiating.
