CARLSBAD - Harriet M. Vrabel, 79, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at Tri-City Medical Center.
Born Jan. 7, 1921, in Pennsylvania, she lived in Carlsbad for 39 years. She was a homemaker. She was past president of the Altar Society of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and helped start the lunch program at St. Patrick's school.
Mrs. Vrabel is survived by her husband of 56 years, Stephen Vrabel of Carlsbad; sons Stephen Vrabel Jr. of Alaska, Fred Vrabel of Carlsbad, Tom Vrabel of Fallbrook and Jeff Vrabel of Washington; daughters Bobi Dolara of Florida and Judy Doose of Oceanside brother Arthur Pehlan of Arizona; 17 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7 p.m., today, Feb. 29, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 1, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joe Muller officiating. Burial will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Miriam Andree, 87
OCEANSIDE - Miriam H. Andree, 87, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, in Oceanside.
Born March 18, 1912, in Fort Worth, Texas, she lived in Oceanside for 28 years. She was a captain in the U.S. Marines and worked for the Veterans Administration. She was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church and Womans Club of Carlsbad.
Mrs. Andree is survived by her husband of 52 years, Nicholas A. Andree of Oceanside; son Charles A. Andree of Nipomo; daughter C. Louise Andree Taylor of Halcyon; sister Ida H. Quarles of Raleigh, N.C.; grandchildren Jesse S. Taylor, Isaiah N. Taylor and Eva L. Taylor; and great-grandchildren Nicholas, Nethaneel and Crystal Taylor.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 2, at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Oceanside, with the Rev. Janet Kay F. Farley officiating. A private cremation is planned.

Born July 10, 1949, in Escondido, she lived in Escondido for 50 years. She was an administrative assistant for CitiFinancial for 20 years.
Mrs. Reed is survived by her mother and father, Marianne and John Trusch of Escondido; daughter Leanne Reed of Escondido; brother Thomas Trusch of Escondido; and sister Elizabeth Trusch of Beverly Hills.

Born Aug. 10, 1923, in Mexico, he lived in Escondido for 33 years. He was a ranch manager for B.F. Wohlford for 23 years.
Mr. Gutierrez is survived by his wife of 38 years, Julia Gutierrez of Escondido; mother Conception Gutierrez of Mexico; sons and daughters-in-law Roberto and Wendy Gutierrez and Wally and Joanne Gutierrez, all o Escondido; and grandchildren Dylan Gutierrez and Grant Gutierrez, both of Escondido.

SAN MARCOS - Mary Sarosy, 89, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, in Escondido.
Born Oct. 6, 1910, in Pennsylvania, she lived in San Marcos for 12 years. She was a production manager for Gottfried's Womens Fashions for 18 years.
Mrs. Sarosy was preceded in death by her husband, Julius Sarosy, in 1992. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Martha Sarosy of San Marcos; granddaughter Linda Frias of El Monte; and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. today, Feb. 29, at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier. Interment will follow.

OCEANSIDE - Bobbie Laverne Michaels, 79, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at Life Care of Vista.
Born May 18, 1920, in Oklahoma, she lived in Oceanside for 21 years. She was a secretary for Modern Pattern and Foundry.
Mrs. Michaels is survived by her husband of 31 years, William Michaels of Oceanside; and sister Mrs. Gillum of North Carolina.
No service will be held at the request of the deceased. A private cremation is planned with inurnment to take place at a later date.

SUN CITY - Rose Boucher, 94, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, in San Diego.
Born Feb. 19, 1906, in Hamel, Minn., she lived in Sun City for 28 years. She was a secretary for the University of Minnesota for 45 years.
Ms. Boucher is survived by her sister, Violet Boucher of Sun City; nephew Gregory and his wife, Jean Peterson; nieces and their husbands Mary and Ken Golden, Pat and Bill Bransford and Jeanne Peterson; and several great-nephews and great-nieces.
Visitation will be held at 9 a.m., with a rosary recited at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 1, at the Church of the Resurrection in Escondido. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery in San Diego.

Henry Paton, 82
SUN CITY - Henry "Hank" Dawson Paton, 82, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, of lung cancer.
Born Sept. 19, 1917, in Boston, he lived in Sun City for 30 years. He worked as a machinist for Rockwell-North American in Anaheim for 17 years and served as a minesweeper in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946. He was a volunteer at Survival Ministries.
Mr. Paton is survived by his wife, Eleanor Paton of Sun City; sons David Paton of Chino, Robert Paton of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Ronald Paton of Palm Springs; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 3, at Miller-Jones Mortuary & Crematory in Sun City. Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Riverside National Cemetery.

HOMELAND - Richard James Bastian, 79, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Sun City Convalescent Center.
Born April 4, 1920, in Victorville, he lived in Homeland for 20 years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 and owned his own upholstery business. He was an industrial engineer for Lockheed Aircraft for 39 years and a life member of the American Legion.
Mr. Bastian is survived by his wife, Georgia Bastian of Homeland; daughter Patricia Schwartz of Homeland; brother Robert Bastian of Woodland Hills; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 28. Burial took place at Carpenteria District Cemetery.

Gettis Nicholson, 84
VISTA - Gettis "Nick" Nicholson, 84, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, of cancer, at Pleasant Care of Vista.
Born Feb. 17, 1916, in Lansing, Mich., he lived in Vista for more than 50 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War, retiring as a master sergeant after 20 years. He was a cabinetmaker for the Civil Service at Camp Pendleton, retiring after 22 years and worked for the Vista Unified School District for 16 years. He was a member of the Vista Grange No. 609 and a 7th Degree Patron of Husbandry, National Grange.
Mr. Nicholson is survived by his wife of 31 years, Lorraine A. Nicholson of Vista; daughter Betty Ann Kirk of Vista; stepson Jerry W. Moses of Vista; stepdaughter Ginger Moses Austin of Vista; grandchildren Daniel and Cheryl Bihr of Washington, Deborah and Scott McCarroll of Ohio and Matthew Austin of Vista; and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 29, at Eternal Hills Mortuary, with Bill Hitt officiating. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma.

BLAIR, Neb. - John F. Madsen, 67, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at his home in Blair.
Born July 3, 1932, in Blair, he lived in Vista for many years. He taught typing, business and physical education for 18 years for the Vista Unified School District at Lincoln and Washington junior high schools and at Vista High School.
Mr. Madsen is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, David Madsen and Lynn and Krista Madsen, all of Vista; daughter Kelly Madsen of Vista; and grandchildren Courtney, Laurel, Blair and Logan.

SAN DIEGO - Joseph "Sepp" John Hildebrand, 77, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla.
Born May 4, 1923, in Zug, Switzerland, he lived at Scripps Ranch in San Diego for 16 years. He was the managing director for Hoechst Inc. and served in the Swiss army during World War II.
Mr. Hildebrand is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joan H. Hildebrand of San Diego; daughters and son-in-law Lisa Hildebrand and Andres and Denis Hartmann, all of San Diego; sisters-in-law Carolyn Ambert of Novato and Dorli Hildebrand of Zurich, Switzerland; and grandson Felix Hartmann of Mannheim, Germany.

OCEANSIDE - Roger Forest Sr., 59, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, in San Diego.
Born June 21, 1941, in Sioux Falls, S.D., he lived in Oceanside for seven years. He worked for the Department of Defense and served as a master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam. He was an avid bowler.
Mr. Forest was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Gilbert, this year; his son, Leonard Forest, in 1994; and his father, Leonard Forest, in 1941. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Masako Forest of Oceanside; sons and daughter-in-law Roger Jr. and Kim Forest of Huntington Beach and Robert Forest of Bakersfield; daughter Debra Forest of Huntington Beach; brothers and sister-in-law Danny and Lisa Forest and Eugene Forest, all of Pierre, S.D.; sisters and brothers-in-law Joyce and Delbert Bauer, Shirley and Bud Whitney and Jane and Bruce Hamlin, all of Pierre, and Delores and Dale Rice of Mitchell, S.D.; and five grandchildren.

Marvin Nordahl, 80
ESCONDIDO - Marvin Lee Nordahl, 80, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at his home.
Born Sept. 13, 1920, in Columbus, Mont., he lived in Escondido for four years and in San Jose and Castro Valley area for 66 years. He was a truck driver for Lone Star Industries for 30 years and a captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a bridge player and a piano player who wrote compositions.
Mr. Nordahl was preceded in death by his wife, June Anita Nordahl, on Jan. 22, 2000. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Lee Marvin and Peggy Nordahl of Valley Springs; daughters and sons-in-law Wendy J. and Rudy DeVeau of Menifee and Paula D. and John Chianis of Escondido; brother and sister-in-law Raymond and Rita Nordahl of San Jose; sister and brother-in-law Winnifred and Harold Davidson of Morgantown, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

ENCINITAS - Clifford James Powers, 77, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, in Encinitas.
Born April 18, 1923, in Long Beach, he lived in Encinitas for 19 years. He was a high school teacher for the Downey School District before retiring in 1981, and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Mr. Powers is survived by his wife of 53 years, Norma Powers of Encinitas; sons and daughters-in-law John and Janet Powers of La Habra Heights and James and Debbie Powers of San Dimas; daughter and son-in-law Vicki and Don Dunivan of Reno, Nev.; brother Lee Powers of Huntington Beach; sister Jean McConnaughy of Saugus; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Born July 22, 1936, in Truyes, Frances, she lived in Oceanside for 29 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Polish-American Club of North San Diego County, Mission San Luis Rey Parish, Las Madrinas Club at San Luis Rey, Vista Emblem Club and the American Legion Auxiliary in Vista.
Mrs. Borowicki is survived by her husband, Albert Borowicki of Oceanside; sons John Borowicki of Pueblo, Colo., and Anthony Borowicki of Phoenix; daughters Catherine Brou of San Diego and Cynthia Rexdahl of Telluride, Colo.; and six grandchildren.

OCEANSIDE - Allen J. Schexnailder, 86, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, in Oceanside.
Born Aug. 5, 1914, in Louisiana, he lived at Pacific in Oceanside for 20 years. He worked for Plantation Pipe Line Co. before retiring in 1975 and served as an infantryman in the U.S. Army from 1947 to 1949. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.
Mr. Schexnailder was preceded in death by his wife, Mike Schexnailder, in 1994. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Michael Hines of Laguna Beach; brothers Earl Schexnailder and Ulman Schexnailder, both of Louisiana; and grandchildren Lacy and Mahlia Hines.
