CARLSBAD - Paul Vellinga, 84, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, in Carlsbad.
Born Oct. 21, 1915, in El Centro, he lived in San Diego County for 36 years. He worked for Cal Trans before retiring.
Mr. Vellinga was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Vellinga, in 1998. He is survived by his son, Larry Vellinga of Palo Alto; daughter Kay Gulley of Carson City, Nev.; grandson William Gulley; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m.

Judith Dixon, 56
ESCONDIDO - Judith J. Dixon, 56, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000.
Born Oct. 1, 1943, in Kenosha, Wisc., she lived in Escondido for 20 years. She was a line assembler for Eaton Vorad Technologies.
She is survived by her sons, John Randall Keaton of Escondido and Christopher Thomas Uhlenberg of Salem, Wisc.; daughters Tammi Headrick of Escondido and Karla Buel of Champagne, Ill.; brother Stanley T. Post of Kenosha, Wisc.; sister Constance J. Rutkowski of Salem, Wisc.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 14, at McLeod Mortuary. A funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, at McLeod Mortuary Chapel. Private burial is planned.

Vera Hugo, 85
VISTA - Vera C. Hugo, 85, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000.
Born Feb. 12, 1915, in Burbank, she lived in Vista for 26 years. She was a member of Eastern Star, Vista Chapel; Native Daughters of the Golden West; and past president of the Garden Club.
Mrs. Hugo is survived by her husband of 66 years, Victor Hugo of Vista; sons Victor Lyle Hugo of San Clemente, Gary Allan Hugo of Tennessee and Bryan Robert Hugo of Alaska; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. today, Feb. 14, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park. Interment will take place at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Jewel Mott, 67
SAN MARCOS - Jewel D. Mott, 67, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000. at her residence.
Born March 27, 1932, in Dustin, Okla., she lived in San Marcos for 26 years.
Mrs. Mott is survived by her husband of 47 years, Jack Mott of San Marcos; sons Kenneth Ray Mott and Larry Wayne Mott, both of Canoga Park, and Timothy Allan Mott of Hedgeville, W.Va.; daughter Nancy Jean Gibbs of Jonesburg, Ill.; brother Denver White of Glendora; sisters Leona Roberts of Bakersfield, Margaret Wilcoxson of Eufaula, Okla., and Pat Smith of Ardmore, Okla.; and seven grandchildren.

LaDonne Alberts, 68
TEMECULA - LaDonne "Don" Alberts, 68, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at Redwood Terrace Health Center in Escondido.
Born June 19, 1931, in Goodland, Ind., he lived in Temecula for eight years. He was a teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District for 28 years. He served in the Army as a medic during the Korean War. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Temecula, Masonic Lodge, Al Malaikah Shrine and Temecula Legion Post 852; and past commander of Post 280 in Indiana.
Mr. Alberts is survived by his wife Pearl Alberts of Temecula; daughters Sheryl Bond of Northridge and Karen Gilbert of Del Mar; son Terry Alberts of Palmdale; brother Keith Alberts of Nashville, Ind.; and six grandchildren.
A service is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 14, at Stout Family Funeral Home. A funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, at Temecula First United Methodist Church. Burial will take place at noon, Feb. 15, at Temecula Cemetery.
The family requests memorial donations to the Shriners Hospital for Children or Shriners Burn Institute of Los Angeles.

Harold Duane Brimley, 89
ESCONDIDO - Harold Duane Brimley, 89, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at a local hospital.
Born April 5, 1910, in Salt Lake City, he lived in Escondido for 25 years. He was an aerospace manager for McDonnell-Douglas for 33 years and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Mr. Brimley was preceded in death by his wife, Fay E. Brimley, in 1997. He is survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. today, Feb. 14, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in San Marcos. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., with Bishop Daniel S. Primavera officiating.
Interment take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Escondido.

Lilyan Nicosia, 82
VISTA - Lilyan Zanowiak Nicosia, 82, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at a local convalescent center.
Born March 2, 1917, in Connecticut, she lived in Vista for three years. She was an assembler with Penn-Keystone Manufacturing for 15 years.
Mrs. Nicosia was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Nicosia, in 1985. She is survived by her son, Joseph M. Nicosia of Carlsbad; sister Eleanor Zanowiak of Connecticut; grandchildren Lisa Zail of Temecula and Michelle Acosta of Carlsbad; and great-grandchildren Christopher and Hunter Zail, both of Temecula.
Visitation and a funeral service will be held in Ansonia, Connecticut, at Spinelli-Malerba Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Mount St. Peter's Cemetery in Ansonia.

OCEANSIDE - Liborio Vincent Caruso, 75, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, in Oceanside.
Born July 24, 1924, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in Oceanside for nine years. He was a cabinet maker for Condor Inc. for 24 years and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Caruso is survived by his wife, Eleanor A. Caruso of Oceanside; sons Michael Caruso of Kent, Wash., and Mark Caruso of Escondido; daughters Lorrie Mikkelsen of Kirkland, Wash., Josephine Gehring of Azusa, Lucille White of Mapple Valley, Wash., Julie Sharp of Glendora, Angela Gildenall of Rancho Cucamonga, and Jeanine Endres of Huntington Beach; sisters Rose Calista of Ontario and Helen Marcario of Banning; 18 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 11 to 11:45 a.m., with a rosary recited at 11:45 a.m., today, Feb. 15, at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon following the recitation of the rosary, with the Rev. Joan Dolan officiating. Interment is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, at Riverside National Cemetery, Staging Area 1.

Anthony Sepich, 80
VISTA - Anthony John Sepich, 80, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, in Vista.
Born Aug. 16, 1919, in Long Beach, he lived in Vista for 20 years. He was a self-employed contractor for 35 years and served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Sepich is survived by his wife of 53 years, Pauline Sepich of Vista; sons and daughters-in-law Tony and Debbie Sepich of Escondido and John and Barbara Sepich of San Marcos; daughter Norma Asbury of Escondido; grandchildren Stephanie Butcher, Gina Hernandez, Carla Sepich, Jessica Sepich, Stephen Sepich, Andy Sepich and Daniel Sepich; and great-grandchild Sophie Hernandez.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary Chapel. A private inurnment is planned.

SAN MARCOS - Lillian Mary Sprangers-Taute, 85, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at a local convalescent home.
Born April 19, 1914, in Utica, N.Y., she lived in San Marcos for 25 years. She was a bookkeeper and secretary for Westchester Stationers for more than 25 years.
Mrs. Sprangers-Taute is survived by her husband of 14 years, Hubert H. Taute of San Marcos; son Robert L. Sprangers of San Diego; stepsons Irvin E. Taute of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and Harrell J. Taute of Missoula, Mont.; grandchildren Coleen L. Neighbors of Redondo Beach, Robert L. Sprangers Jr. and Erik D. Sprangers, both of Simi Valley; and great-grandson Michael Sprangers of Simi Valley.
A private cremation is planned with cremains to be scattered at sea.

OCEANSIDE - Mary Jo Harrison, 77, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, of a heart attack, in Oceanside.
Born March 12, 1922, in Grandfield, Okla., she lived in Oceanside for 43 years. She was the owner of Harrison Pharmacy before retiring.
Mrs. Harrison was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Harrison, on Jan. 18, 1989. She is survived by her sons, Jim Harrison of Encinitas and John Harrison of Basalt, Colo.; sisters June Rasmuson of Grandfield and Faye Bourland of Tonkawa, Okla.; grandchildren Summer and Dax Harrison of Encinitas and Micah and Danaka Harrison of Basalt; and nephew Jerry Rasmuson of Greenleaf, Idaho.
Viewing was held Friday, Feb. 4, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. No service will be held at the request of the deceased. A private cremation with inurnment is planned.

Carl Butterworth, 62
POWAY - Carl A. Butterworth, 62, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at Balboa Naval Medical Center.
Born Nov. 9, 1937, in Moorestown, N.J., he lived in Poway for 23 years. He was an aviation botswainsmate fuel chief in the U.S. Navy, retiring on Nov. 11, 1977 after 22 years. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Butterworth is survived by his wife of 42 years, Carolyn M. Butterworth of Poway; son and daughter-in-law Keath E. and Lonnie Lehner of San Diego; daughters Shoshonia Kay Vanderploeg of Corona and Leticia Gay of Escondido; brothers Joseph Butterworth, Richard Butterworth and Everett Butterworth; sisters Doris Godfrey and Martha Childers; and grandchildren Matthew Vanderploeg, Nicole Vanderploeg and Victoria Vanderploeg.
Viewing was held Monday, Feb. 14, at El Camino Memorial Park & Mortuary. A funeral service followed with naval Chaplain Eldreth officiating. Burial followed with full military honors.

ENCINITAS - Winifred Ault, 74, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, in Encinitas.
Born April 27, 1925, in Cornwall, England, she lived in Encinitas for four years.
Mrs. Ault was preceded in death by her husband, Carl R. Ault, in 1993. She is survived by her sons, Richard Ault of Denison, Texas, and Alan Ault of Carlsbad; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Burial will take place at a later date in Tucson, Ariz., next to her husband.
