VISTA - Rose Chan, 78, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, of heart failure, at Oxton, Birkenhead, United Kingdom.
Born Feb. 9, 1922, in Malaysia, she lived in Vista for 20 years. She was a homemaker and a member of All Saints Episcopal Church of Vista.
Mrs. Chan was preceded in death by her husband, James Chan, on March 8, 1979. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Michael and Irene Chan of Oxton; daughter and son-in-law Jan Chung and Dr. Oscar Chung of Carlsbad; and grandchildren Dr. Stephen Chan, Ruth Chan Jonathan Chung and Jason Chung.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Upton, United Kingdom. A private cremation with inurnment is planned. A memorial service will be held in March 2001 at All Saints Episcopal Church in Vista.

ENCINITAS - Mary Martinez, 80, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at Scripps Hospital Encinitas.
Born Aug. 29, 1920, in Mesa, Ariz., she lived in Solana Beach for 74 years. She attended the American Sessions School near the Connley Ranch and Eden Gardens Elementary School. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Martinez was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Refugio Martinez, on Jan. 6, 1997. She is survived by her sons, Johnnie Martinez of San Marcos and Jessie Irene Young of Solana Beach; stepsons Richard Martinez of Chula Vista and Refugio Martinez of Hawaiian Gardens; brothers Tom Sanchez and Benny Alto, both of Solana Beach, and Robert Sanchez of Encinitas; sisters Petra Stout of Oceanside and Connie Alto of Solana Beach; grandchildren Danny and Ricky Martinez of Escondido; great-grandchildren Josh, Brandon and Tylor Martinez; and many stepgrandchildren, stepgreat-grandchildren; and stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

He was born May 7, 1953, in Manteno, Ill., he lived in Fallbrook for the past 20 years. He was a professional painter.

Born June 9, 1919, in Pittsburgh, he lived in Sun City for six years. He was a salesman for H.J. Heinz Co. in Pennsylvania for 27 years and for Bordon Co. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1953, leaving with the rank of major.
Mr. Hawkes is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margaret Hawkes of Sun City; daughters Amy Hamilton of Menifee and Linda Hawkes of Talent, Ore.; sons Philip Hawkes of Scottsdale, Ariz., Roger Hawkes of Irvine and Robert Hawkes Jr. of Bakersfield; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Born July 1, 1914, in Benld, Ill., she lived in Sun City for nine years. She was manager of the engineering department at Illinois Bell Telephone Co. in Chicago for 24 years. She enjoyed dancing, traveling, playing cards and dominos and was a roller derby queen. She was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America and the Order of Eastern Star.
Mrs. Vonesh is survived by her daughter, Carol Frederick of Des Plaines, Ill.; grandchildren David Bochenek of Crystal Lake, Ill., Diane Smith of Fallbrook and Denise Sommerlot of Sleepy Hollow, Ill.; great-grandchildren Brandon Milton and Nolan Ray, both of Fallbrook, Austin Sommerlot and Jessica Sommerlot, both of Sleepy Hollow, and Misty Comaduran of Grand Dau, Guam; and great-great-granddaughter Aliyah Comaduran of Guam.

TEMECULA - Robert Ernest "Bob" Bradley, 83, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at his home.
Born April 17, 1917, in Galconda, Ariz., he lived in Jerome, Ariz., Montrose, Berkeley, Los Angeles for 33 years and Temecula for 20 years. He worked in Jerome's mines and graduated from Berkeley with a degree in engineering and business management. He was chief engineer of the architectural design and construction division of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and a general contractor.

Mrs. Cannon is survived by her husband of 58 years, Samuel Cannon of Oceanside; daughter Donnie McGonigle of Moreno Valley; brother Jack Gray of Cayucos; sister Margaret Illion of Las Vegas; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Born March 3, 1914, in New York, he lived in Oceanside for 23 years. He was the owner/operator of an insurance company before retiring and served as a private 1st class in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Babalon, N.Y., Scottish Rite and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars in De Bary, Fla.
Mr. Brooks is survived by his companion of 23 years, Kathleen Daniel of Oceanside; son Douglas Brooks of Lindehurst, N.Y.; daughter Linda Verzi of Hove Sound, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Inurnment will take place at a later date at Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, N.Y.

Born Dec. 3, 1914, in Long Island, N.Y., she lived in Glendale for the last three years and had lived in Vista for more than 50 years. She graduated a textile designer from the Pratt Institute in New York and taught watercolor at Palomar College.
Mrs. Houston was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Jean A. Houston, on Jan. 3, 1988. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Bob Roberson of Pittburg, Texas; grandson Christopher Allen of Sacramento; great-granddaughter Cynthia Allen of Sacramento; nieces Thelma Lohmann of Vista and Patty Menges of New York; and nephew Bobby Skolly of New York.

Born Jan. 21, 1929, in San Luis, Colo., he lived in Escondido for 46 years. He was a heavy equipment operator before retiring and served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War.
Mr. Vigil is survived by his brothers, Richard Vigil, Arnold Vigil and Arthur Vigil, all of Colorado; sisters Mary G. Cordova and Olivama Vigil, both of Colorado; and one grandchild.
