Sacramento Daily Union, 25 Jun 1870 Died: At Colusa, June 20th, Mary Alice, daughter of John T. and Eliza Mason, aged 1 year and 10 months.

Tri-Weekly Colusa Star, 2 Jan 1919 NEWCOMER IS FLU'S VICTIM William Oscar McGrew, recently here from Yolo county died yesterday at the age of 28 years on the John Weast place on the east side of the river from pneumonia, following a severe attack of the flu. The body has been shipped by J. D. McNary & Sons to Woodland, where the funeral will take place tomorrow. Beside a wife and two children there survive the young man father, mother and a brother. Mr. McGrew came to Colusa only a few months ago to engage in farming.

Colusa Sun Herals, 22 May 2008 Lucille (Reische) McVey, 105, of Colusa passed away May 10, 2008, at an assisted living facility in Chico. Born Jan. 10, 1903, in Meridian, she was a bookkeeper at JC Penney Co. in Colusa for 36 years and also a bookkeeper for her husband’s business, Signal Oil, in Colusa for 20 years. Lucille will always be remembered as a strong, independent, caring woman who was famous for her homemade potato rolls, pies and candies. She was also an accomplished seamstress. Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Chet McVey, two brothers and four sisters. She leaves behind her son, Cliff McVey; grandchildren Ron McVey, Pennie and Bob Morejohn; and great-grandchildren Desta Morejohn and Brennen Morejohn. No services are planned; she will be placed in the Sutter Cemetery.

Princeton News, 2 Jan 1919: Died - in Princeton, Dec. 29th, Mrs. Callie Olvey, wife of Joseph Olvey. Mr. and Mrs. Olvey were just ready to start for Virginia when Mrs. Olvey contracted pneumonia.

Colusa Sun Herald, 16 Apr 1956 Mrs. Francis Parker Dead; Funeral Here Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church for Mrs. Francis Parker, 68, daughter of the late Joseph and Julia Highstreet of Colusa, who died yesterday in San Francisco after a brief illness. Mrs. Parker was born in Colusa. She is survived by a son, Melvin, of San Francisco; brother, Louis Highstreet of Colusa; and sisters, Mrs. Rosa Fouch, Mrs Genevieve Kaufman, Mrs. Louise Shellooe and Mrs Cleo Wilsey, all of Colusa, and Mrs. Marie Carlson of Seattle, Wash., Lucile Larkin of Oakland and Josephine Bryan of Stockton. The rosary will be recited at 8 o'clock tomorrow night. Sullivan Brothers will direct interment in Colusa Catholic Cemetery.

Marysville Daily Appeal, 30 Apr 1871: Died: Near the Ohio House, Colusa County, April 24th, Andrew Pearce, aged 48 years.

Tri-Weekly Colusa, 04 Jan 1919 Mother, Father Babe Buried Friday Luther Pell, recently a resident of Princeton, died yesterday following his wife and infant baby and sister, Collie Creoloa Olvey, to the grave, all victims of the dread influenza. Mrs. Olvey died last Sunday. Mrs. Pell followed after the birth of a child, which in turn died. The father was the last to go, battling to the last with pneumonia following the flu. Mother, father and babe will be buried tomorrow by Sullivan Bros. at a double funeral to be held at College City. The case is probably one of the saddest for years in the county, for there remains now a three-year old motherless and fatherless baby, whom the father quested his brother-in-law, Mr. Olvey, who is also down with the flu in this city, to return to his home in Mississippi just as soon as he is able to leave. The child is in the care of friends and symathizers pending the recovery of the only other surviving member of the stricen family.

Colusa Sun Herald, 17 Aug 1935: MRS. J. K. PRIME DIES - Services For Sites Pioneer Here Monday Death Parts Well Known Couple, Together for 56 Years Death last night at 10:30 o'clock claimed another of Colusa County's pioneer women, Mrs. Ella Dean Prime, beloved wife of Joseph K. Prime. The end came at the family home in Sites after a brief illness arising from the infirmities of her advanced age. Mrs, Prime had been failing rapidly and yesterday, when her condition took a turn for the worse members of the family were summoned to her bedside. News of her passing occasioned the deepest regret in the Sites district, where she so well known and loved, and little community joined today in extending sympathy to the bereaved family. Came Here In 1859 Mrs. Prime, 79 years of age, was a native of Ohio, born January 23, 1856. She came to California by way of the Isthmus of Panama in 1859 and spent her childhood in Sutter County south of the Sutter Buttes. On June 7, 1879, she was married to Joseph K. Prime and the happy couple spent their early married life in Colusa, later moving to Maxwell, being one of that community's earliest settlers. Thus the passing of Mrs. Prime parted a couple who had been happily wedded for 56 years. Three children She leaves to mourn her death her husband, Joseph K. Prime of Sites, and three children; Mrs Edna Morris of Stonyford, Mrs. Dean P. Morris of Richmond and Roland O. Prime of Maxwell. Two grandsons, Joe and Tom Prime, of Maxwell, also survive. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Sullivan Brothers Funeral Home, with interment to follow in Sutter City cemetery. The Maxwell Rebekah lodge, of which the deceased was a member will have charge of the services.

Colusa Sun Herald, 14 Apr 1987: Graveside services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Colusa Cemetery for Edward M. Rice who died in his College City home on Sunday. Born on December 12, 1896, in Missouri, he had made his home in College City for the past 30 years and did custom farming. He was a World War II veteran. He is survived by a step-son, donald McClay of Rio Linda and among his surviving nephews and nieces ia a niece, Sandra Hill of College City. McNary Moore Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Colusa Sun Herald, 16 Dec 19247: J.S. Rice, for many years a resident of the College City country, died at the Arbuckle sanitarium today of pneumonia. He was 63 years old and a native of Missouri. The funeral will be held under the direction of JD McNary & Son at College City Thursday at 2 p.m.

Colusa Sun Herald, 10 Dec 1928: Mrs. John D. Rice [Laura Josephine] of Maxwell died last evening at about 10:30 o'clock after an illness of several months. Surviving are her husband, John D Rice, a son, Roy D. Rice; three daughters, Mrs. EC Kaerth, Mrs Willard Clark and Mrs Lyle Manford, all of Maxwell; one brother, Rev. Frank Baker of Burbank and a sister, Miss Anna Baker, now making her home in Maxwell. Nine children also survive. Mrs. Rice was 68 years of age. Services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Baptist church in Maxwell. Rev. Garth of Willows will officiate. Interment will be mad in the Maxwell cemetery under direction of JD McNary & Son.

Daily Colusa Sun, 05 Apr 1910: Old Resident Dies in San Francisco Died: in this city, March 22, Sarah, wife of Peter E. Quigley, and loving daughter of Cornelius and the late Margaret Canney, and loving mother of Francis and Cornelius Quigley, and sister of Mary and Edward Sanney and Mrs. James Coyle, a native of California, aged 39 years. Friends and acquaintances are respectfully invited to attend the funeral Friday, March 25, at 9:45 o'clock, from her late residence, 418 Athens Street off Mission Road; thence to St. John's church where services will be held, commencing at 10"30 o'clock. Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery - San Francisco Chronicle. Mrs. Quigley was the wife of Peter E. Quigley, who was gas maker in Colusa about eight years ago, and both were well known here. Mrs. Quigley was stricken with heart failure while sitting talking with her brother-in-law, J. Coyle and could not be revived.

Sacramento Union, 03 Aug 1913: Died: In Colusa (Colusa Co.), July 31, 1913, Mrs. Oscar Saunders, wife of Oscar Saunders, mother of Jesse Saunders, a native of Illinois, aged 47 years.

Colusa Sun Herald, 18 July 1979 Requiem mass was recited at 10 a.m. today in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church for Edward V. Shellooe, 78, well known resident of Colusa, who died Saturday evening in Eskaton Colusa Healthcare Center. Father Charles Brady officiated. Eileen Davies sang accompanied by Thyrza Wheeler at the church organ. Interment was in the Colusa Catholic Cemetery under the direction of McNary-Moore. Pallbearers were John James F., Kevin A., Richard D., Michael and William Shellooe. The rosary was recited at 8 o'clock Tuesday evening in Sullivan Chapel.

Tri-Weekly Colusa, 07 Jan 1919: Funerals Clash; One is Delayed The funeral of the late Mrs. Mary Josephine Cabral schedule to be held at the Colusa Catholic church this morning, was delayed because of the fact that the funeral of the late Ambrose (John) Schirber was being held in Arbuckle at about the same time. Both funerals were under the auspices of Sullivan Bros., but due to the fact that a special casket had to be obtained for Mr. Schirber and other delays incident to a double funeral in different parts of the county it was impossible to carry out full plans. Father Hines had charge of the services at the Schirber funeral in the Arbuckle Catholic church while Rev. CC McGrath is looking after the funeral of Mrs. Cabral, the beloved daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Victorine of this place. She will be buried in Colusa. Increase int he deaths of late have worked a hardship upon local undertakers, taxing not only their facilities but their full time.

Colusa Sun Herald, 17 July 1979 Stagmeir Rites Reset Thursday Graveside services for Frederick David Stagmier, 87, of Colusa, who died Sunday afternoon in the Crestwood Convalescent Hospital in Redding, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in Sutter Cemetery instead of 3 p.m. tomorrow. The change in date for the services was announced yesterday afternoon too late for publication. The Rev. H. Cecil Bever, pastor of the First Christian Church, and Cressey J. Wescott, acting as master for Colusa Lodge No. 240 of Masons, will officiate. Stagmier, who lived in this area all of his life, was born in Yuba City January 4, 1892, son of the late Frederick and Luthelia McCoy Stagmier. He was a 50-year member of three Colusa Masonic orders and was about to receive his 50-year emblem from Veritas Chapter No. 84, Eastern Star. Survivors include his wife, Nellie, of Antioch; three children, Robert Stagmier of Antioch, Doris Williams of Carlsbad and Leland Stagmier of Cottonwood, and a niece, Mrs. F. W. Welter of Yuba City.

The Yuba-Sutter Appeal Democrat, 14 Dec 1988: Graveside services are scheduled Friday at 10 a.m. in Williams Cemetery for Lillie L. Sweeley, 69, of Colusa, who died Sept. 13, 1988, at Colusa Community Hospital. A native of Illinois, she had lived in Colusa County since 1959 and was a meber of the Williams Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She is survived by a son, Joseph Sweeley of Fremont; a brother, Byford Hayes of Torrance; a sister, Nina Lee Abernathy of Illinois; and three grandchildren. the Rev. Jim Jackson will officiate at the services. Memorials to the Hospice Society in chico have been suggested by the family. Arrangements are under the direction of McNary Moore Funeral Service.

Appeal Democrat, 10 Apr 1979 Funeral services are scheduled Thursday for Russell Edmund Thorp, 85, of Yuba City who died Sunday in Hacienda Convalescent Hospital, Woodland. A native of Warrenville, Ohio, he had been a resident here for the past 14 years and lived on Willow Way, Yuba City. He was a retired farmworker. He is survived by his wife, Clara of Yuba City; two daughters, Doris Williams of Williams and Evelyn Stalions of Live Oak; and by nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Yuba City Seventh-day Adventist Church with Pastor Norman Sharp officiating. Burial will be in College City Cemetery, Colusa County. Ullrey Memorial chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Colusa Sun Herald, 09 Sep 1998: Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Colusa for Elizabeth Lowe Tuttle, 69, who died September 5, 1998 of a stroke. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 7 p.m. at McNary Chapel in colusa. Mrs. Tuttle was born June 15, 1929 in Oakland. She was a native Californian who descended from two pioneer families who came to San Francisco in 1849. She grew up in Woodland, the daughter of William Kenneth Lowe and Azalene Eaton Lowe. She attended the Katherine Branson School in Ross, Anna Heads School in Berkeley and the University of California, Berkley where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and Ace of Clubs. She married Charles Whitcomb Tuttle, Jr. in 1952 and moved to Colusa where she lived for 46 years. She was an active volunteer in local charities which included Girl Scouts and Omega Nu. A devout member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, she served on the altar guild and vestry. She is survived by her husband, Charles Tuttle, Jr. of Colusa; her daughters and sons-in-law, Cahterine and David Ottmar of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Carolin Dean and Donald Huff III of Woodland, and Cynthia and Stephen Sanderson of Park City, Utah; and six grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Barbara Elliott of Ross. Arrangements are under the direction of McNary-Moore Funeral Service, Colusa.

Sacramento Daily Union, 06 Jan 1857: Fatal Accident: Braxter Young was thrown from a horse at Stony Creek, Colusa County, on Monday, the 22nd December, and instantly killed.
