Obituaries - courtesy April Hennes Arnoldy, Peter Claimed at 74 Appeal Democrat, November 2, 1943 Peter Joseph Arnoldy, one of the three brothers who came to California from Kansas 50 years ago and have been residents of the community since, died in the Rideout Hospital this morning, 10 months after the death of his wife, Nora. Arnoldy was a native of Minnesota, aged 74 years and for a long time was an orchardist in Sutter county. Since the death of his wife he had been living with his daughter, Mrs. L. C. Purcell, 731 Eighth Street, Marysville. He was a member of Marysville Council of Knights of Columbus and was a 50-years member of Court Pride of Marysville. Foresters of America, and was active in both orders through the years. Services Thursday He was the father of Elmer Arnoldy and Mrs. Purcell of Marysville and Lloyd E. Arnoldy of San Diego. The latter en route to Marysville today, on receipt of a message telling of his father's death. He also leaves 10 grandchildren. The surviving brothers and sisters are Matt and Joseph Arnoldy with whom he came west 50 years ago and William Arnoldy of Chico. Mrs. N. Boden of Kansas and Sister Cleophas in a Kansas convent. The body will lie in state at the Purcell home from 11 a. m. Wednesday until the hour of the funeral services in St. Joseph's Church Thursday at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Sierra View Memorial park. Rosary service will be at the Purcell home at 8 p. m. SUTTER FARMER DIES P. E. Barkley, 75, retired farmer and prominent Sutter county resident for many years, died early Tuesday at his home on Township road following a brief illness. Bumford, 94, of Marysville, who died Sunday at the Driftwood Manor Convalescent Hospital in Yuba City. Brown, 79, a former resident of Marysville who died yesterday in a Sacramento convalescent hospital. Brown, a native of Vermont, had been a Marysville resident from 1959 to 1979 and had been a truck driver. Survivors include two sons, Edward G. Brown of North Highlands, and Kenneth Brown of Vermont; a sister Hazel Adams of Vermont; and six grandchildren. Mrs. Cable, a native of Marysville who spent her entire life here, was a retired teacher. She spent 39 years as a principal and superintendent at Arboga Elementary School in Yuba County after retirement continued as a parochial school teacher. She was a past president of Notre Dame Alumnae of Marysville, Notre Dame State Federation Alumnae, Notre Dame International Federation Alumnae, Marysville Parlor of the native Daughters of the Golden west, Marysville Art Club and Beta Omega Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma. She was founder of the Yuba-Sutter Audubon Society and a member of the Catholic Ladies Relief Society, Business and Professional Women's Club, American Association of University Women, the Democratic Committee and the Mary Aaron Museum Association. She was a life member of the Retired Teachers Association and the National Retired Teachers Association and for many years was active in 4-H Club work. Cisneros, George Robert Jr. Appeal Democrat 30 May 1980 George Robert Cisneros, Jr., 52 of 310-B Woodbridge Avenue, Yuba City died at home yesterday evening of Amytrophic Sclerosis, more commonly called Lou Gehrig's Disease, according to the Sutter County Sheriff's office. He died at Rideout Hospital yesterday. A native of Marysville and a lifetime area resident, he had retired after 32 years as the owner of Jefferis Insurance Co. He was a veteran of the Army in World War II and was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Yuba City, St. Isidore's Catholic Church in Yuba City and a former member of the Marysville Elks Club. Appeal Democrat, Friday, July 14, 2000 Wallace James Coats, 75, of Sacramento died July 12, 2000 at Mercy San Juan Hospital in Sacramento. Born in Marysville, he was a Yuba-Sutter resident for 26 years before settling in Sacramento 41 years ago. He was an attorney and a graduate of Yuba College, a 1952 graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, studying English and History, and a 1958 graduate of the University of San Francisco Law School. He was appointed deputy commissioner of corporations for the State of California and retired into private practice in 1968, practicing law into the 1990's. In addition, he served as a sonar officer in the U. S. Navy during World War 11. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Coats of Sacramento; a son, Wallace James Coats of Knights Landing; 3 daughters, Laura Jane Coats of Larkspur, Mary Patricia Kashuba of Colfax and Barbara Rae Ward of Eugene, Or; 2 brothers, Robert T. Coats of Live Oak, and Arthur W. Coats Jr. of Cambria; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Lauren Coats and Wilson Coats and a sister Jane Coats Cotton. Yuba Native, Expires Appeal Democrat, July 6, 1953 Frederick Hiram Roberts, 77, died Saturday at his home on Sixth St., Marysville, following a lingering illness. He was a native of Yuba County, born Sept 25, 1875 in the Oregon Hill district, near Challenge. He was the son of the late John and Lucinda Roberts, who settled in that area in the 1850's. Roberts was a rancher in Sutter county for many years and for the past 15 years had been employed by the Harter Packing Co. He was a lifelong resident of Yuba and Sutter counties. He was a member of Marysville chapter, Foresters of America, and St. John's Episcopal church. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lorraine; a son, John of Arbuckle; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Bishop of Marysville; four sisters, Mrs. William Wadsworth of Orland, Miss Louise Roberts of Los Angeles, Mrs. Bess R. White and Mrs. Al Hanify, both of San Francisco. He was the brother of the late Charles W. Roberts of Yuba City. Rev. Thompson officiated. Mrs. Raymond M. Huston was vocalist with Miss Vashti Prentiss at the organ. Interment was made in the Sutter City cemetery. Wheatland, Martha Blackford Appeal Democrat, Sept. 19, 1949 Mrs. Martha Blackford, 86, of Wheatland died today in that city. She was born in Nevada county but lived in Wheatland for 60 years. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Hartley, pioneer Nevada county residents and the widow of Price Blackford, the owner of extensive land holdings and a stockman. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star of Wheatland. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Clyde Waltz; a son, Robert Blackford; a niece, Mrs. Myrtle Bresnan, all of Wheatland; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Wheatland, Harold Blackford Appeal Democrat, Sept. 1, 1931 Harold Blackford, son of Mr. and Mrs. Price Blackford of the Wheatland district died at the family home Thursday evening. He was a native of Wheatland, 37 years of age. Besides his parents he is survived by a brother, Robert Blackford, prominent stockman and rancher of Wheatland and a sister, Mrs. Helen Waltz of Wheatland.
