He was a graduate of Stockton High School and farmed with his father in the Stockton area before moving to Colusa where he was a rice farmer. He also grew dry beans, vine seed, corn, wheat, safflower and walnuts. He was a member of the Colusa County Farm Bureau, involved in several marketing and processing cooperatives and farmer-owned businesses and one of the founding members of the Colusa Bean Growers Inc. warehouse. Also, he was a member of the Catholic church and the Knights of Columbus. She was past chairman for the Yolo County March of Dimes and volunteered for the blood bank; was an active member of the Holy Rosary Parish and the Holy Rosary Church Altar Society; and was past president of the Holy Rosary Mother's Club, Holy Rosary School. Clark Avril Joyce Clark, 77, of Yuba City died June 3, 2002, at Fremont Medical Center. Born in Elwood, Ind., she was a Yuba-Sutter resident for 15 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Yuba City, the Music Box Dancers and the Buzzing Cuzzins Dancers. Survivors include three sons, Russ Clark Jr. of Yuba City, John Clark of Anderson and Doug Clark of Sioux Falls, S.D.; four brothers, Dick Gildersleeve of Crown Point, Ind., Sam Gildersleeve of Los Angeles, James Gildersleeve of Merrillville, Ind., and Robin Gildersleeve of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Betty Koch of Lansing, Ill; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Clark Sr. who died May 1, and a brother, Jack Gildersleeve. Ferraiuolo Frank Albert Ferraiuolo, 92, of Colusa died June 5, 2002, at Valley West Care Center in Williams. Born in Eveleth, Minn., he was a Mid-Valley resident for 84 years. He worked for the Colusa Unified School District from 1932 until 1975, retiring as supervisor of facilities and transportation. He received recognition from Wilson Riles, state superintendent of public instruction and the California Highway Patrol. He was a member of the Colusa Rifle team, was scout master for Troop 32 and served on the tree commission for 36 years. He coached JV baseball at Colusa High School, managed the semipro Colusa Pruners baseball team and the American Legion Junior baseball teams. In addition, in his early years he boxed professionally. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Irene Ferraiuolo of Colusa; two sons, Don Ferraiuolo of Yuba City and Jerd Ferraiuolo of San Jose; a sister, Vera Florio of Colusa; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Marano, and three brothers, Julius Ferraiuolo, Jildo Ferraiuolo and John Ferraiuolo. Myers Kermit Price Myers, 83, of Yuba City died June 5, 2002, at Rideout Memorial Hospital. Born in Quincy, he was a Yuba-Sutter resident for five years. He was a retired truck driver for the State of California and served in the U.S Marines during Word War II. He was a former member of the Quincy Elks Lodge and the Quincy Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his wife, Betty Myers of Yuba City; a son, Charles Myers of Yuba City; a daughter, Kimberly Hernandez of Sacramento; a stepson, Stan Starkey of Oroville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. MacMillan Donald Laughlin MacMillan, 82, of Arbuckle died Sept. 4, 2002, in a care facility in Woodland. Born in Oakland, he was a longtime Mid-Valley resident. He was a retired self-employed plumber for more than 50 years. Survivors include two daughters, Kelly Ruiz of Arbuckle and Joyce MacMillan of Yuba City; a son, Robert MacMillan of Chico; his stepmother, Joyce M. McMillan of Taiwan, R.O.C.; a brother, Wallace MacMillan of Berkeley; a sister, Madele Stien of Fresno; and two grandchildren. A graveside service is scheduled at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Arbuckle Cemetery. Gene Hickey Jr. Gene Hickey Jr., 68, of Juneau, Alaska, died Sept. 4, 2002, at his residence. Born in Dunsmuir, he was a former Yuba-Sutter resident. Settling in Juneau in 1978, he was a retired commercial bush pilot for Channel Aviation in Juneau and also retired from the University of Alaska, Juneau, as dean of admissions. He was a graduate of Woodland High School, Yuba College while living in Marysville and Chico State College. While residing in Yuba City from 1968 to 1975, he was with the Yuba City Unified School District as a guidance counselor and vice principal at Yuba City High School and principal of Wilson Continuation School. He also was a teacher and counselor in Chico schools; was director of student activities at the International School of Bangkok in Thailand; and opened and was director of the Yuba Community College Woodland Center. His memberships included the Masons, Yuba City Rotary, Moose Lodge in Juneau, Alaska Airmen Association, Alaska Seaplane Association and Parachuting Pioneers. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1957. Survivors include his wife, Judy Hickey of Juneau; a daughter, Susan Kauk of Yuba City; two sons, Gene Hickey III of Meridian and Mike Hickey of Sutter; a stepson, Tom Lopez of Winters; a stepdaughter, Julie Oppenheimer of Calabasas; and nine grandchildren. Macedo Melva Oneida Macedo, 91, of Live Oak died Sept. 3, 2002, at her residence. Born in Nevada City, she was a lifetime Yuba-Sutter resident. She was a retired cutter at Harter Packing Co. after 40 years and a member of the Yuba City Moose Lodge and Native Daughters of the Golden West. Survivors include a daughter, Ruth McFall of Sutter; a son, M.D. "Skeeter" Gomes of Stockton; a brother, Carl Wellman of Yuba City; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Frost, 91, of Biggs died Sept. 5, 2002, at her residence. Born in Los Angeles, she was a Mid-Valley resident for 70 years. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Gridley and the Relief Society. Survivors include four daughters, Betty Jenkins of Biggs, Sue Fieth and Jan Townsend, both of Oroville, and Evalynn Davis of Woodland; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Virden Robert Lee Virden, 36, of Challenge died Sept. 2, 2002, in a motorcycle accident near Bullards Bar. Born in Port Smith, Va., he was a Yuba-Sutter resident for five years. He was a dock hand for four years at Bullards Bar Reservoir. Survivors include his wife, Melanie Virden of Challenge; a son, Scott Virden of Challenge; a daughter, Jessica Virden of Challenge; his parents, Thomas Virden of Ohio and Rose Marie Eberhardt of Phoenix, Ariz.; and two brothers, David Virden and Christopher Virden, both of Phoenix. Robert Sperry Sr. Robert "Bob" Sperry Sr., 62, of Yuba City died Sept. 4, 2002, at Rideout Memorial Hospital. Born in Marysville, he was a longtime Yuba-Sutter resident. He lived in Vacaville from 1967 to 1988, working as a machinist at the Mare Island shipyard. He served in the U.S. Navy, was a member of the Yuba City Moose Lodge and coached Little League in Vacaville. Survivors include his wife, Vida Sperry of Yuba City; two sons, Robert Sperry Jr. of Martinez and Darren Sperry of Alameda; a daughter, Kimberly Oresco of Morgan Hills; two stepsons, Keith Mahoney of Nicolaus and Shane Mahoney of Sacramento; a sister, Patricia Aberasturi of Marysville; and six grandchildren.
