John Paxson Webb, the son of Henry and Elizabeth Griffith Webb, was born March 29, 1833 in Chester County, Pennsylvania and was a fifth generation native American. Though he was a Baptist, his ancestors were Quakers and had come to Pennsylvania for religious freedom; they didn't fight in the Revolutionary War, but they did smuggle food into Valley Forge. In 1854 John decided to come west, and probably left a family actively engaged in the Underground Railroad.
Rebecca McCord Boyes was born September 11, 1837 in Missouri to William Archer and Margaret (Peggy) Ann Barry Boyes. She was twenty years old when her family decided to come west; her brother-in-law was the trainmaster on the wagon train so it was a family decision.
John was twenty-four and Rebecca was twenty when they were married in
Millville, May 16, 1858. They made their home on Clover Creek near Millville
and had ten children:

John and Rebecca were both active in school and community affairs. They were involved with Odd Fellows (Rebekahs for the females) and the Masonic Lodge. John served as Master for two terms and his picture hangs in the Masonic Lodge at Millville.
John died May 12, 1887; Rebecca survived another fifteen years, living with her children in turn. She died August 10, 1902. Both were buried in the Millville Cemetery beside their son John Griffith.
