Daniel Webster Robinson was born
in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1834; family lore says that he crossed the plains
in a wagon train, possibly as one of those who were hired to aid and protect
the families with children and livestock. His first written records
in California show marriage to fifteen year old Elizabeth Stephenson, October
3, 1858. They had two sons, George b. 1860, and Thomas b. 1861 before
Elizabeth's death in 1863.
Missouri Alice Foster, the fifth child of Ellen W. Cline and David Campbell Foster, was born in
Indiana, April 12, 1851. Both parents were born in America she in
Kentucky and he in Virginia. The family crossed the plains with Dan Hunt's
second wagon train in 1861. David died at Fort Laramie, Wyoming but the
family came on to Shasta County; they stayed with Captain Hunt on his stock
ranch in Oak Run. The boys herded cattle and the girls did the cooking;
the oldest girl, Rebecca, taught school before she married William Hawes
in 1862.
Missouri was only fourteen in
1866 when she married Daniel Robinson who needed a mother for his two small
boys. They lived at American Ranch (now Anderson). The couple had six more
children:

At one time Dan is listed at
Cottonwood Post Office but when they applied to buy property from Southern
Pacific the letter was addressed to American Ranch (now Anderson). The
place they homesteaded in 1883 was in Happy Valley. The family remained
on that ranch until after the turn of the century. George and Thomas,
Dan's sons by his first wife married and moved to Siskiyou County and three
of Dan and Missouri's children had died before Dan's death March 13, 1897
at age sixty-two.
Since Dan didn't leave a will,
the children all signed quit-claim deeds giving the homestead to Missouri.
The 1900 Census shows Dan's son, George was helping to run the farm, since
be listed himself as Farm Laborer.
In 1911, her youngest daughter,
Winona married Benjamin Klukkert and settled in Redding. Missouri moved
in with Winona and her family in 1917 and resided with them until her death
on April 6, 1937.
