The marriage of John W. Ogburn and Emma C. Jones was solemnized November 10, 1856, one mile and a half from the farm upon which they spent their wedded life. Mr. Ogburn assisted in subduing the Indians during their insurrection against the early settlers and took an active part in all movements advanced for the welfare of his community. Fraternally he was a member of Northern Light Lodge, F. & A. M., of Millville.

In the family of Mr. and Mrs. Ogburn were seven children:

Charles Edward, who was born October 9, 1857, married Ella McCoy Clark, and of their union were born six children, Byron, Carl, Archie, Vernon, Geneva and Grace. Charles E. died October 18, 1899, at the age of forty-two years.

Harriett is the widow of William H. Grout, a native of Iowa; they were married May 20, 1884, and his death occurred November 10, 1899, at the age of fifty-four years; they were the parents of one son, John.

Jefferson D. was born November 15, 1861, and has always lived on the same place; December 25, 1895, in Redding, he was united in marriage with Mamie E. Greene, the daughter of Thomas Greene, of that city; they are the parents of two children, John Greene, born April 15, 1899; and
Ralph B., born August 1, 1902.

John William was born on the farm where he now makes his home, December 17, 1863. Mary died in 1875, at the age of eight years.

Edna is the wife of Horace H. Weigart, and resides near the home place.

Harry died in infancy.

Emma is the wife of Arthur McMurry and resides near Anderson

Jefferson D. and John W. are members of North Light Lodge, F. & A. M., of Millville, while their political views bring them into affiliation with the Democratic party, whose men and measures they support by their ballot. Jefferson D. is a school trustee, and his wife is an active
member in the Presbyterian Church.
