William Peterson, 49
LA JOLLA - William S. "Bill" Peterson, 49, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, of a heart attack, at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla.
Born April 19, 1951, in Austin, Minn., he lived in La Jolla for 46 years. He was a master finish carpenter and a member of La Jolla Presbyterian Church. He graduated from La Jolla High School in 1969 and attended Mesa College in San Diego.
Mr. Peterson is survived by his mother, Suzanne Teasdel of Rancho Santa Fe; brother and sister-in-law Pete and Adela Peterson of Encinitas; sister Pamela Allison of La Jolla; and nephew Blake Peterson.
A private family celebration of life will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today, Oct. 14, at the Crab Catcher Restaurant in La Jolla.
The family suggests memorial donations to Friends of the La Jolla Library, 7555 Draper Ave., La Jolla, CA 92037.
North County Cremation is handling arrangements.

Kathleen Barres, 57
ENCINITAS - Kathleen A. Barres, 57, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, in Encinitas.
Born Dec. 15, 1942, in Ohio, she lived in Encinitas. She worked for William Beaumont Hospital.
Ms. Barres is survived by her brother, John A. Barres of Ohio; nephews Craig M. Barres of Utah, Carl M. Barres of Temecula and Kevin M. Barres of Florida; and niece Elaine Heyd of Ohio.
A private cremation is planned.

Donald Stull, 79
OCEANSIDE - Donald Keith Stull, 79, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000.
Born Aug. 5, 1921, in Nebraska, he previously lived in Nebraska, Missouri, Illinois, Oceanside and Oregon. He worked in the graphics arts industry since 1954, spending 20 years for Olec Corp. before retiring to Oregon, where he continued with Olec Corp. as a consultant. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 5th Armored Tank Company. He attended Bradley University in Peoria, Ill.
Mr. Stull was preceded in death by his brothers, Ghordis Stull and Rolland Stull, and his parents. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Rosina Stull; daughters Saundra Kelley of Oceanside and Andrea Myers of Gilberts, Ill.; son David Kereluk of West Dundee, Ill.; sisters Margaret Peterson and Dorothy Hanlon, both of Wyoming; brother James Stull of Missouri; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will beheld at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, at St. Michael's by the Sea Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Neal Moquin officiating.
The family suggests memorial donations to the Pastoral Care Center, St. Charles Medical Center, Bend, OR 97701; or the American Heart Association, 3640 Fifth Ave., San Diego, CA 92101.

Elmer Campbell, 99
VISTA - Elmer Allen Campbell, 99, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at Life Care Center of Vista.
Born Nov. 26, 1900, in Pittville, he lived in Vista for 46 years. He was a self-employed rancher for 25 years.
Mr. Campbell was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy May Campbell, in 1998. He is survived by his sisters, Lotti Carpenter of McArthur and Alice Thatcher of Carmichael; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at Allen Bros. Mortuary, Vista Chapel. A graveside service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Esther Roswell, 85
ESCONDIDO - Esther Elizabeth Roswell, 85, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at Escondido Care Center.
Born April 2, 1915, in Los Angeles, she lived in Escondido for six years. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Escondido.
Mrs. Boswell was preceded in death by her husband, Pastor Rolland C. Boswell, in 1987. she is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecka and Raymond Case of Bremerton, Wash., and Rachel and Chuck Saathoff of Escondido; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Bruce Gearhart of Bethel Baptist Church officiating. Interment is scheduled for 3 p.m. after the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale.

Alden Tubaugh, 87
PRESCOTT, Ariz. - Alden T. Tubaugh Sr., 87, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, in Prescott.
Born Jan. 7, 1913, he lived in Prescott for 21 years and had lived in Escondido for more than 25 years. He worked for the city of Escondido before retiring and was a Past Master of the Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Tubaugh is survived by his wife, Alice Tubaugh of Prescott; sons Alden T. "Tom" Tubaugh Jr. and Bruce Eldredge; daughter Bonnie Line; and four granddaughters.

Muriel Avery, 80
CARLSBAD - Muriel M. Avery, 80, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at Harding Guest Home in Carlsbad.
Born Feb. 5, 1918, in Canada, she lived in Carlsbad for 22 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Avery was preceded in death by her husband, Byron Avery, in 1988.
A Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Carlsbad. A private cremation is planned.
The family suggests memorial donations to a charity of choice or to the American Diabetes Association, 225 Broadway, Suite 310, San Diego, CA 92101.

Dorothy Schmeeckle, 92
ESCONDIDO - Dorothy G. Schmeeckle, 92, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at her home.
Born Dec. 21, 1907, in St. Clairsville, Ohio, she lived in Escondido for 73 years. She was a teacher for the Escondido Union High School District for 20 years and a member of the First Congregational Church of Escondido, the P.E.O. Sisterhood and the Retired Teachers Association of California.
Mrs. Schmeeckle was preceded in death by her husband, Paul A. Schmeeckle, in 1973; and brother John K. Giffen. She is survived by her son, Robert B. Schmeeckle of Escondido; brother Bruce L. Giffen of Santa Barbara; and sister and brother-in-law Jean G. and Arthur Hollis of Escondido.
No formal service will be held. A private cremation is planned with interment at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Mary Griffin, 92
RAMONA - Mary Wilma Griffin, 92, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, at a convalescent hospital.
Born Oct. 6, 1908, in Milo, Iowa, she lived in Pasadena before moving to Ramona, where she lived for 60 years. She was a secretary, working in the Ramona Unified School District administrative offices for the last 10 years. She was a member of the Rebekah's Lodge, serving as president and secretary. She was a member of the Grandmother's Club in Escondido and the Ramona Congregational Church and Emmanuel Faith Community Church in Escondido.
Mrs. Griffin is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Patti and Jerry Newman of Julian and Candi and Loren R. Gates of Ramona; and grandchildren Cheryl Doughty of Las Vegas, Theresa Newman of Escondido and Loren C. Gates and Crista Gates, both of Ramona.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, at Nuevo Memory Gardens in Ramona.

Barbara Stegemann, 40
VISTA - Barbara J. Stegemann, 40, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, of brain cancer, at the home of her parents in Vista.
Born June 10, 1960, in Chula Vista, she lived in Escondido off and one for 20 years. She graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in Buena Park in 1978 and was a phlebotomy instructor for Boston Reed Co. of St. Helena for five years at UCSD and Scripps hospitals. She also worked in the infirmary at Miramar College and was a volunteer for the Veterans Administration Hospital in La Jolla for two years and at the UCSD student-run free clinic for two years, receiving a Free Clinic Leadership Award. She attended Pacific University in Oregon, Biola University in La Mirada and UCSD Medical School.
Ms. Stegemann was preceded in death by her sister, Katherine "Kathy" DiBernardo, in 1996; her brother in 1965; uncles Donald Richard Utterback in 1965 and Raymond Stegemann in 1999; and grandfathers Donald C. Utterback in 1978 and Oliver J. Stegemann; and grandmother Josephine G. Stegemann in 1988. She is survived by her parents, John and Joan Stegemann of Vista; grandmother Eleanor Utterback of Escondido great-uncle and aunt Erwin and Barbara McKeegan of Yucca Valley; brother-in-law Michael DiBernardo of Corona; and numerous cousins, including Jeff McKeegan of San Luis Obispo.
A funeral service will beheld at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at El Camino Memorial Park Chapel in San Diego. A graveside service will follow.
The family suggests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, 12405 Rancho Bernardo Road, Suite 100, San Diego, CA 92128; or U.C. Regents for the Barbara Stegemann Scholarship Fund, UCSD Foundation, Student Affairs Development, La Jolla, CA 92093-0937.

Delphine Winfield, 80
RAMONA - Delphine Jean Winfield, 80, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at her home.
Born Sept. 21, 2000, in Illinois, she lived in Ramona for five years. She was a statistician for Rockwell International before retiring in 1970 and a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Vista.
Mrs. Winfield was preceded in death by her husband, Carl I. Winfield, in 1993. She is survived by her son, Jerome McCormick Dixon of Arizona; daughter and son-in-law Karen Lynn and Neil Switzer of Ramona; grandchildren Rebecca Dickens, Kristie Switzer, Anthony Lee Ramirez, Neil Switzer Jr. and Amanda Marie Switzer; and great-grandchildren Brianna Sky Ramirez, Autumn Dickens, Taylor Dickens and Ramsey Switzer.
A private interment will be held at Riverside National Cemetery.

Shirley Skelton, 87
OCEANSIDE - Shirley Skelton, 87, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at Life Care Center of Vista.
Born Sept. 5, 1913, in Meridian, Miss., she lived in Oceanside for 24 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Skelton is survived by her husband of 63 years, Olen Skelton of Oceanside; daughters and son-in-law Gail Swenson of Oceanside and Elaine and Paul Collander of Rancho Bernardo; sisters and brother-in-law Elizabeth Johnston, Ouida McMullan and Olga and Wilson Valentine, all of Meridian; grandchildren Brian Collander of Rancho Bernardo, Victoria Lauer of Portland, Ore., and Bonnie Dunkin of Las Vegas; and five great-grandchildren.
A private cremation is planned.

Gordon Anderson, 85
SAN MARCOS - Gordon Howard Anderson, 85, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at his home.
Born April 1, 1915, in Crescent, Utah, he lived in San Marcos for 11 years. He was an equipment supervisor for Arrow Equipment Rental Co. for 26 years and a member of the San Marcos Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife of 54 years, Iola J. Anderson of San Marcos; son and daughter-in-law R. Michael and Ellen Walker of Klamath Falls, Ore.; sister and brother-in-law Uhlane and Lloyd Ralston of Montesereno; grandchildren Randon Walker and wife Deborah of Vancouver, Wash., Garth Walker and wife Julie of Dundee, Ore., Les Ann Valentine and husband Troy of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Jodi Jarvie and husband Jay of Bonanza, Ore.; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in San Marcos. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., with Bishop James Scott officiating. Interment will take place at Eternal Hills Memorial Gardens in Klamath Falls.

Gene Smith, 62
VALLEY CENTER - Gene Tunny Smith, 62, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, from complications of a stroke, in Escondido.
Born Oct. 17, 1937, in Wisconsin, he lived in Valley Center for 26 years. He was an oil field mechanic in Long Beach and worked in construction in San Diego. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Valley Center.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by his wife of 17 years, Betty Smith. He is survived by his sons, Edward J. Smith, Joe Aguire and Albert Aguire, all of Lake Wohlford; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
An informal memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at Oakvale Lodge in Valley Center at a date to be announced. Call (760) 751-4077 for more information.

William Manning, 45
APPLE VALLEY - William Brent Manning, 45, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at his home.
Born in Riverside, he lived in Oceanside for four years and spent his entire life in California. He was a laborer with Lee Kellison Construction Co.
Mr. Manning is survived by his companion, Loretta Murillo-Colton of Oceanside; sons William Stewart Manning and Neil Scott Manning; and brother Eric Carlyle Manning..
A memorial service will be held at noon today, Oct. 1, at his home in Oceanside at 507 Tremont St., Apt. B.

Norma Rankin, 74
VISTA - Norma Marie Rankin, 74, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, at her home.
Born April 26, 1926, in Los Angeles, she lived in Vista. She enjoyed cake decorating, cooking and baking, playing bingo and going to garage sales.
Mrs. Rankin is survived by her mother, Clara Harrington of Reno, Nev.; son and daughter-in-law Ray and Roxanne Rankin of Rancho Cucamonga; daughters and son-in-law Ruth Cowart of San Marcos and Rebecca and Robert Scouler of Vista; brother Robert Young of Mesa, Ariz.; sisters Mildred Thomas of Hemet and Ruth Cormany of Nipomo; grandchildren Emily and Natalie Rankin, Joey Cowart, Timmy Cowart, Ryan Rankin, Rhonda Kirton, Robert Rankin and Melissa Rankin; step-grandchildren Robert Scouler, Tom Scouler and Analisa Scouler; and three great-grandchildren.
A family gathering was held.

Michelle Grady, 17
ALPINE - Michelle Grady, 17, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, in an auto accident in Seeley.
Born Dec. 21, 1982, in San Diego, she lived in Alpine. She was a student at Venture Christian High School.
Michelle is survived by her mother and father, Marylin Palmer of Ramona and Raymond Grady of Alpine; stepsister Jennifer Griffin of Alpine; and grandparents Doris Ann and Glen Anderson of Ramona.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at El Cajon Mortuary. A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, at El Cajon Mortuary, with the Revs. Dan Wilerman and Mick Cupples officiating. Burial will follow at Singing Hills Memorial Park.
The family suggests memorial donations to Venture Christian High School, 10404 Lake Jennings Park Road, Lakeside, CA 92040.
