Martha Bauer, 85
CARLSBAD - Martha C. Bauer, 85, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at Life Care Center of Vista.
Born March 13, 1915, in Pennsylvania, she lived in Carlsbad for 13 years.
Mrs. Bauer was preceded in death by her mother, Angelina Colarusso; her father, Theodore Colarusso Sr.; and her husband, William C. Bauer Sr. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, William Bauer Sr. of Washington and John and Patricia Bauer of Carlsbad; sister Margaret Miscannon of Allentown, Pa.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
A private funeral service is planned. Her cremains will be scattered at sea.

Joe Jordan, 73
VISTA - Joe Thomas Jordan, 73, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, at his home.
Born April 29, 1927, in Tuscaloosa, Ala., he lived in Vista for 50 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars, retiring as a captain after 25 years. He was also a general contractor for 13 years.
Mr. Jordan is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sophie A. Jordan of Vista; son Michael Jordan of Orangeburg, S.C.; daughter Sandra Lampich of Alpine; and grandchildren Joseph, Shawna, Michael and Christina.
A private cremation is planned with a graveside service to take place at a later date at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, with full military honors.

OCEANSIDE - Chau Minh Doan, 49, died Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at his home.
Born Dec. 9, 1950, in Quezon City, Republic of the Philippines, he lived in Oceanside for 25 years. He was an inventory control specialist for Continental Motors for 10 years.
Mr. Doan is survived by his wife, Leesann Doan of Oceanside; sons Johnson M. Doan of Los Angeles and Jackson Doan of Oceanside; daughters Jeannette Bumgat of San Jose and Jennifer Doan, Rachel Saxton and Louisa Masaniai, all of Oceanside; and seven grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, at the Old Church at Mission San Luis Rey, with the Rev. Michael Pham of St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mission San Luis Rey Cemetery.

John Steusel, 83
VISTA - John Steusel Jr., 83, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at his home.
Born May 21, 1917, in Grand Rapids, Mich., he lived in Vista for 17 years and had lived in El Cajon for eight years. He was a sheet metal worker for more than 25 years and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Steusel is survived by his son, Paul V. Steusel of Vista; daughter Judith Ann Norton of Kingman, Ariz.; sister Nell Ross O'Neil of Wadsworth, Nev.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A private family service will be held. A private cremation is planned, with inurnment at Fallbrook Masonic Cemetery.

Douglas Collier, 68
RIVERTON, Wyo. - Douglas Collier, 68, died Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, of cancer, at his home.
Born Oct. 28, 1932, in Owen, Wis., he lived in grew up in Washington and moved to Escondido in 1949. He served in the California National Guard for several years and did active duty with the Sixth Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Riverton, serving as elder. He was a service representative and district manager of an oil company for more than 40 years and enjoyed collecting toy cars and service station memorabilia. He worked for Warehouse Furniture and Sun Motors and was a community bus driver for the Senior Center.
Mr. Collier was preceded in death by his mother and father, and by his sister, Donna Tricinella. He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Joyce Lorene Smith Collier of Riverton; son and daughter-in-law Robert and Belva Collier; sister and brother-in-law Darla and Robert Broady; grandsons Gabriel and Joshua; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. today, Nov. 7, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Riverton, with the Rev. Bret Schroeder officiating. Interment will take place at Mountain View Cemetery.

ESCONDIDO - Harold S. Sharp, 86, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at Palomar Medical Center.
He was born June 6, 1914, in Murray, Utah, and graduated from the University of Utah. He taught school for five years and was a self-employed businessman for 30 years.
Mr. Sharp is survived by his wife of 60 years, Amy McBride Sharp; daughter and son-in-law Sandra and Jim Smithling of Fullerton; grandchildren Christi, Sean and Shannon; and nieces and nephews Toni Kener, Margo Clements and Pat McBride.
Viewing will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, at McLeod Mortuary in Escondido. A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Borden Road in San Marcos. SAN DIEGO - Judith Carol Utter, 50, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, of leukemia, in La Jolla.
Born June 11, 1950, in Inglewood, she lived in San Diego for 50 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Soledad Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Utter was preceded in death by her mother, Grace Cheatham; and her father, Dayton Acock. ESCONDIDO - Isabelle Maryann Francavilla, 82, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, in Escondido.
Born April 21, 1918, in Greenville, N.H., she lived in Escondido for 3 1/2 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Francavilla was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Francavilla, on Sept. 21, 1994. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Louis and Helen Francavilla of La Palma; daughter and son-in-law Jean and Danny McKay of Medicine Lodge, Kan.; sisters Florence Cook of Bullhead City, Ariz., and Jeanette Cook of Las Vegas; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

OCEANSIDE - Herman V. Haynes, 75, died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, in Oceanside.
Born March 21, 1925, in Jurdon, Ky., he lived in Oceanside for 36 years. He worked for the civil service in the maintenance department at Camp Pendleton and served in the U.S. Marine Corps, retiring as a sergeant major. He earned a bachelor of science degree from San Diego State and enjoyed painting.
Mr. Haynes was preceded in death by his mother, Flora Haynes; and his father, William Haynes. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Constance Haynes of Oceanside; sons and daughter-in-law Robert and Shirley Haynes of Carlsbad and Carl Haynes of San Diego; daughters and son-in-law Mauretia and Bill Anderson of Oceanside and Diana Romo of Escondido; brothers and sister-in-law Fred Haynes of Yuma, Ariz., and Delbert and June Haynes of Potts Camp, Mississippi; sisters and brothers-in-law Mary and Harold Bernero of Phoenix, Mattie and Bob Mosby of Austin, Texas, and Jennie Mae Braddock of Ripley, Mississippi; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

CARLSBAD - W. Ray Poindexter, 79, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, in Carlsbad.
Born Feb. 16, 1921, in Everton, Mo., he lived in Carlsbad for the past 12 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He graduated from Northwestern University Medical School and was a practicing psychiatrist for more than 50 years. He is the author of The Poindexter Organization, which applies transactional analysis to industry.
Dr. Poindexter is survived by his wife, Midge Poindexter; daughters Linda Poindexter, Laurie Poindexter DiPietro and Melissa Poindexter; sister Beverly Poindexter; and grandchildren Justin Brown and Madison DiPietro.
A private service will be held in Northern California.

OCEANSIDE - Martha Gascon, 84, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, in Oceanside.
Born Jan. 30, 1916, in Jalisco, Mexico, she lived in Oceanside for 45 years. She was a hairdresser before retiring in May 1978.
Mrs. Gascon was preceded in death by her husband, Jesus Gascon, in January 1965. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Thelma Gascon and Delbert and Patti Gascon, all of Oceanside; daughter and son-in-law Martha G. and Fred Martinez of Oceanside; brother and sister-in-law Steve and Celia Moreno of La Puente; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Viewing was held and a rosary recited on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at Eternal Hills Chapel. A funeral service is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. today, Nov. 8, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. Interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Mrs. Macy was preceded in death by her husband, Griffin Henry Macy in December 1974. She is survived by her son, David Macy of Oceanside; daughter and son-in-law Suzanne and Rod Johnson of Fresno; and three grandchildren.

VISTA - Winthrop B. Hibberd, 38, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, of a heart attack, at his home.
Born Feb. 11, 1962, in Philadelphia, he lived in Vista. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea, where he spent 2 1/2 years as a prisoner of war.
Mr. Hibberd is survived by his daughter, Denise Hibberd of Paso Robles; grandson John Odom of Paso Robles; aunt Connie Brener of Vista; and two cousins of Vista.

Eugene Hatfield, 77
ESCONDIDO - Eugene McFarland Hatfield, 77, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, in Escondido.
Born April 15, 1923, in Billings, Mont., he lived in Escondido for seven years. He worked for Teamsters Local 683 before retiring in 1978. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, surviving the bombing of the USS Lexington in the Coral Sea. He witnessed the bombing of Hiroshima and was onboard the ship where the peace treaty with the Japanese was signed.
Mr. Hatfield was preceded in death by his son, John Doolittle, in March. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Ruth Hatfield of Escondido; sons Kelly P. Hatfield of Santee and Thomas C. Doolittle of Escondido; daughters and sons-in-law Teri Renee and Bronco Beachler, F. Susan Doolittle and Teri and Jay Bradley; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for family and close friends will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, at the family home, with the Rev. Paul Kugler officiating. A private cremation is planned.
