Louise Wilcockson, 76
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Louise "Ruth" Wilcockson, 76, died Thursday, May 18, 2000, at her home.
Born Dec. 1, 1923, in Higbee, Mo., she lived in Springfield. She was a data processing supervisor for the Illinois Department of Transportation for 30 years before retiring and was a member of Laurel United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Wilcockson is survived by her husband, Donald L. Wilcockson of Springfield; sons and daughters-in-law Dennis L. and Sherry Wilcockson of Oceanside and Mark D. and Sue Wilcockson of Springfield; daughters and sons-in-law Debra S. and Don Tomlin of Monmouth, Ill., and Marcia L. and Gary Nichols of Stockbridge, Ga.; grandchildren Melissa De Luis of Oceanside, Brian Wilcockson of Midland, Texas, Shawn Wilcockson of Des Moines, Iowa, Todd Wilcockson, Katie Wilcockson and Andrew Casper, all of Springfield and Nick Casper of Stockbridge; great-grandchild Nicholas DeLuis of Oceanside; and several nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 21, at Staab Funeral Home in Springfield. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, May 22, at Staab Funeral Home, with the Rev. John P. Hamilton officiating. Burial will take place at Camp Butler National cemetery near Springfield.

ESCONDIDO - Lillian Stephens Gleed, 84, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, in Escondido.
Born March 24, 1916, in Roundup, Mont., she lived in Escondido for 15 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Gleed was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Gleed, in 1986. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Gary Dean and Betty Gleed of Bakersfield, Gordon Daryl and Jeanette Gleed of Rapid City, S.D., and E. Dale and Rachel Gleed of San Diego; daughter and son-in-law Deanna Kathleen and Curt Ritchey of Bakersfield; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today, May 20, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary, with Zacary Elliott officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Montana.

OCEANSIDE - Christina Amanda Torres, 16, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, in Oceanside.
Born Feb. 14, 1984, in California, she lived in Oceanside for 16 years. She was a student at El Camino High School and a member of MEChA.
Christina is survived by her mother, Maria Franco of Oceanside; stepfather Jose Manuel Rayes of Oceanside; grandparents Maria J. and Antonio Franco of Mexico; brother Andres Rayes of Oceanside; sisters Angelica Torres of Riverside and Elizabeth Torres and Mayra Rayes, both of Oceanside; numerous uncles, aunts and cousins; and one niece.
Viewing will be held from 2 to 8 p.m., with a rosary at 7 p.m., Sunday, May 21, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. A funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, May 22, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. Interment will follow.

Raymond Orton, 91
CARLSBAD - Raymond Leo Orton, 91, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at Tri-City Medical Center.
Born Nov. 7, 1908, in Bushton, N.Y., he lived in Carlsbad for 30 years. He served in the U.S. Army as a lieutenant colonel for 25 years.
Mr. Orton was preceded in death by his wife, Gwendolyn P. Orton, in 1975. He is survived by his nephew, William Nicholson of Rome, N.Y.
No local service will be held. Burial will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 25, at Arlington National Cemetery.

James Thompson, 82
OCEANSIDE - James Kenneth Thompson, 82, died Monday, May 15, 2000, at his home in Oceanside.
Born March 24, 1918, in Westcliffe, Colo., he lived in Oceanside for 71 years. He worked for the San Diego County Sheriff's Department for 22 years, retiring as a detective. He was a 1935 graduate of Hoover High School and served in the U.S. Army during world War II.
Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Ellen Thompson, in 1996. He is survived by his sons, Mark M. Thompson of Fullerton, Chris K. Thompson of Temecula and Alan S. Thompson of Oakton, Va.; daughter Lynne P. Leonard of Fallbrook; and four grandchildren.
A private family service with interment was held.

COLUMBUS Ind. - Marion Gunning, 78, died Friday, May 19, 2000, at Columbus Health & Rehabilitation Center in Columbus.
Born April 5, 1922, in Wilmington, N.C., she lived in Vista for many years. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Parish in Columbus and the Garden Club and Republican Womens Club, both of Vista.
Mrs. Gunning was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth E. Gunning, on March 23, 1980; and her son, Walter Eugene Davis. She is survived by her son, Kenneth E. Gunning Jr. of San Diego; daughters and sons-in-law Carol and Phillip Oakes of Morgan Hill and Peggy and Randy Steele of Columbus; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
No service is planned. Her cremains will be scattered off the coast of Oceanside.

Born Feb. 26, 1916, in Deadwood City, S.D., she lived in Fallbrook and San Marcos for 34 years.
Mrs. Swanson is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Don Swanson of Billings, Mont., and Jerry and Cindy Swanson of Rapid City, S.D.; daughter and son-in-law Faye and Ray Kruckenberg of San Marcos; sister Mildred Edlund of Spearfish, S.D.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A private cremation is planned, with a private inurnment to take place at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

ESCONDIDO - Mabel; S. Seery, 103, died Thursday, May 18, 2000.
Born Feb. 22, 1897, at Odanah, Wis., on the Bad River Indian Reservation, she lived in Escondido for 35 years and had lived in Fallbrook. She was in the retail clothing business in Long Beach for many years.
Mrs. Seery was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Michael Seery. She is survived by her cousins, Joe and Marge Veale of Escondido, John and Barbara Veale of Boone, Iowa, and Roy and Janet Buck of San Diego.
Inurnment will take place at Fort Rosecrans National cemetery at a later date.

VISTA - Happy V. Hendricksen 88, died Monday, May 15, 2000, at Tri-City Medical Center.
Born Dec. 31, 1911, in the Virgin Islands, he lived in Vista for 11 years.
Mr. Hendricksen is survived by his sons, Robert Larry Hendricksen of Vista, William Glenn Hendricksen of Las Vegas and Anthony Hendricksen of Del Mar; daughter Viki Ann Sortino of Oceanside; stepdaughter Brenda Joseph of Carlsbad; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

WARNER SPRINGS - Chester Maxey, 73, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, of cancer, at his home.
Born June 1, 1926, in Las Vegas, N.M., he lived in Warner Springs for 23 years. He was a service supervisor for Southern California Edison in Hemet for 34 years and served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He was on the board of directors of Warner Springs.
Mr. Maxey is survived by his wife of 53 years, Edith Maxey of Warner Springs; son David Maxey of Portola Hills; and daughters Susan Robbins of Fullerton and Lisa Garcia of Buena Park.

SAN MARCOS - Rita D. Abelar, 91, died Monday, May 15, 2000, at a local convalescent home.
Born Feb. 13, 1909, in Sonora, Mexico, she lived in San Diego County for 20 years. She was a homemaker for 53 years and a member of the West Los Angeles Holiness Church and the United Methodist Church of San Marcos. She was a volunteer at the Encinitas Thrift Store and the Joslyn Senior Center. She was a seamstress for celebrities, including Betty Davis, and a nanny for Vincent Price.
Mrs. Abelar was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Abelar, in 1982; and her sons, Samuel Abelar and John Abelar. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Norma Abelar of Santa Monica; daughters and sons-in-law Esther and Paul Guilfoyle of San Marcos and Ruth Abelar Russell and Douglas Russell of West Los Angeles; niece Esther and Edward Sandoval of Huntington Park; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, May 20, at Casa Escobar Restaurant in Marine Del Rey, with the Rev. Kenneth Ashitomi officiating. A private inurnment will take place at Inglewood Park cemetery in Inglewood.

William Evans, 76
SAN JACINTO - William T. Evans, 76, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, at his home.
Born in Parkersburg, W.Va., he lived in Encinitas and Elfin Forest since 1946 before moving to San Jacinto. He was a service writer for Volkswagen in Oceanside, El Cajon and Kearny Mesa and worked at General Dynamics in San Diego. He had a taxi service in Encinitas. He played in the musical group The Four Sharps for 35 years and was a life member of the Musicians Union and a member of the Elks Lodge in Oceanside and Encinitas. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1941 to 1946.
Mr. Evans is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jean Evans of San Jacinto; sons David Evans, Gary Evans, Kenneth Evans and Donald Evans.

MENIFEE - Jerry R. Martin Jr., 42, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, as the result of a hit-and-run automobile accident, at Inland Valley Medical Center.
Born May 11, 1958, in Inglewood, he lived in Menifee for 33 years. He was self-employed.
Mr. Martin is survived by his mother and father, Marianne A. Martin and Jerry Ross Martin Sr. of Menifee; brothers Michael John Martin of Menifee and John Mathew Martin of Showlow, Ariz.; and sister Melody May Stokes of Menifee.

ENCINITAS ----David Kobrin, 75, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, at Scripps Memorial Hospital in Encinitas.
Born Sept. 4, 1925, in Middle Village, Queens, N.Y., he lived in Encinitas for seven years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a teacher for the New York City Board of Education for 33 years before retiring. He was a member of the American Legion Post 416 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9715 of Encinitas.
Mr. Kobrin is survived by his wife, Joan Kobrin of Encinitas; daughters and son-in-law Sue and John Morizi of Rancho Santa Fe and Diana Kobrin of Oceanside; and grandchildren Karen, Brian and Lauren Morizi of Rancho Santa Fe.
A memorial service will beheld at noon Sunday, Nov. 5, at the Encinitas Elks Lodge in Cardiff. Inurnment will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, at Fort Rosecrans National cemetery in Point Loma, with full military honors.

Mr. Steigerwald is survived by his wife of 51 years, Fern A. Steigerwald of Fallbrook; daughters LeeAnn Hawkins of Highland and Linda Hobbs of Lone Pine; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

FALLBROOK - Marjorie F. Morrissett, 82, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, of lung cancer and a stroke, at Fallbrook Hospital.
Born Oct. 23, 1918, in New London, Ohio, she lived in Fallbrook for 13 years. She worked for the Methodist Theological Seminary in Delaware, Ohio before retiring and was a volunteer for Fallbrook Clinic, Fallbrook Angel Society and Friends of the Country.
Mrs. Morrissett was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Morrissett, in 1970. She is survived by her brother, Gerald Fowden of New London; nephew Steve Fowden of Greenville, Ohio; and niece Stacey Fowden of Greenville.
