Ralph Miller, 72

OCEANSIDE - Ralph L. Miller, 72, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at a local care center.
Born Oct. 1, 1928, in Chino, he lived in Oceanside for 50 years. He was a teacher, vice principal and principal with the Oceanside Unified School District for 36 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Miller is survived by his wife of 46 years, Norma Miller of Oceanside; brothers Everett "Bud" Miller of Valley Center, Melvin Miller of Cherry Valley and Miles Miller of Upland; and sister Catharine Janzen of Madera.
Private family services will be held. A private cremation is planned.
Allen Bros. Mortuary is handling arrangements.

Patricia Mavis, 67

ESCONDIDO - Patricia Louise Mavis, 67, died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at her home.
Born Aug. 5, 1933, in Oscar, Okla., she lived in Escondido for 20 years. She was a member of Oak Hill Church of Christ and Veterans of Foreign Wars Women's Auxiliary.
Mrs. Mavis is survived by her sons, Richard Mavis of San Diego and Jimmie Mavis of Newport News, Va.; daughters Sandra Walton of Escondido and Myra MacKenzie of San Diego; and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at Oak Hill Church of Christ with the Rev. Tom Burch officiating. A private inurnment is planned.
The family suggests memorial donations to Oak Hill Church of Christ Benevolence and Children's Education Fund, 1301 Oak Hill Drive, Escondido, CA 92027.

Marion Strauss, 104

LAKE SAN MARCOS - Marion Miller Strauss, 104, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001.
Born Dec. 10, 1896, in Pennsylvania, she lived in Lake San Marcos for 34 years. She was a secretary for 15 years for Strauss Bros. Management Co.
Mrs. Strauss is survived by her stepdaughter, Marjorie B. Anderson of Newport Beach; grandchildren Nancy S. Tietge of Vista, Sherry Anderson of Anchorage, Alaska, Craig Anderson of Menlo Park, Gordon Strauss of Louisville, Ky., and Duncan Strauss of Costa Mesa; and seven great-grandchildren.
No services will be held at the request of the deceased. A private inurnment will take place at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills.

Stuart Pearson, 52

ESCONDIDO - Stuart J. Pearson, 52, died Saturday, March 10, 2001.
Born Nov. 20, 1948, in Africa, he lived in Escondido for three years. He retired from the city of La Mesa in 1994. He served in the U.S. Air Force.
Mr. Pearson is survived by his wife of 10 years, Donna Willis of Escondido; mother Irene Pearson and father Joseph Pearson, both of San Marcos; son and daughter-in-law Rocky and Janine Lamb of San Diego; daughter Dawn Pearson of El Cajon; brother and sister-in-law James and Remy Pearson of Murrieta; grandson Ethan Lamb; and nephew Andrew Pearson.
A private cremation is planned.
North County Cremation Service is handling arrangements.

Darleene Clark, 72

The service time has now been determined for the memorial for Darleene Clark, who died on Feb. 3, 2001. It will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 17, at The Home Church Service Memorial Southern Baptist Church in Oceanside.

Terri Jourdan, 41

CARLSBAD - Terri L. Jourdan, 41, died Monday, March 12, 2001, in Escondido.
Born Nov. 14, 1959, in Elizabeth, N.J., he lived in Carlsbad for 31 years.
He loved music, reading and antiques.
Mr. Jourdan is survived by his mother, Bette Jourdan and father, Hank Jourdan, both of Carlsbad; and brother and sister-in-law Randy and Elaine Jourdan of Oceanside.
A private cremation is planned.

Max Bradshaw, 65

ESCONDIDO - Max E. Bradshaw, 65, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at his home after a long battle with cancer.
Born May 15, 1935, in Lamar, Colo., he lived in Escondido for 18 years.
He served in the U.S. Navy and retired as a Navy chief.
Mr. Bradshaw is survived by his wife of 37 years, Jean Bradshaw; daughter Suzanne Weathers; grandson Charlie Weathers; and brother and sister-in-law Robert and Alice Bradshaw.
A memorial service was held Sunday, March 11, at his grandson's home in Laguna Nigel.
His cremains were scattered at sea.

Ellen Willard, 79

ESCONDIDO - Ellen H. Willard, 79, died Friday, March 9, 2001.
Born June 5, 1921, in Manhattan, N.Y., she lived in Escondido for three years. She was a credit manager for Fawcett Publications.
Mrs. Willard is survived by son Thomas Casey of Fallbrook; daughter Arleen Walsh of Norwalk, Conn.; brother James Henry of Olivenhain; and sister Barbara Cismowski of Springlake, N.J.
The family suggests memorial donations to Vitas Hospice, 3880 Rio San Diego Drive, Suite 950, San Diego, CA 92108.

Dessie Williams, 96

OCEANSIDE - Dessie May Williams, 96, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at her home.
Born Dec. 29, 1904, in San Luis Rey, she lived in Oceanside for 96 years.
She was a retired teacher.
Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her parents, Clara Watson and William Woodruff (one of the pioneer families of San Luis Rey Valley), and brothers Everett, Paul and Shirley Woodruff.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Richard Williams of Oceanside; daughters and sons-in-law Catherine and Robert Leggitt of Oceanside and Florenza and Nicholas Krnich of Rancho Santa Fe; sister-in-law Eva Woodruff of Vista; sister Laura Blanchard of Oregon; grandchildren Jule and Gary Wright, Debbie and Paul Anderson, Jason Leggitt, Nicolas, Leslie and Christopher Krnich; great-grandchildren Kathleen Wright and Joseph Anderson.
Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at Eternal Hills Mortuary.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, March 16, at Mission San Luis Rey
Parish Chapel with the Rev. Harold Calkins officiating.
A private family burial will take place at San Luis Rey Pioneer Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial donations to Trees in Memory Program, 211 N. 12th St., Lincoln, NE 68508.

Joanne Morris Bruce
Joanne Morris Bruce born Aug. 6, 1932, died March 10, 2001.
Joanne was a cherished wife, loving mother and dedicated friend. She lost her battle to cancer and died at home.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Donald C. Bruce. They have three children, Pam Johnson, Donald C. Bruce Jr., and Jana McMurray. Nine grandchildren, Sarah Kleiman, Rick Johnson, Amanda Johnson, Jacob Bruce, Jared Bruce, Jamison Bruce, Nicholas McMurray, Amber McMurray, Ian McMurray, five great-grandchildren, Ryan Kleiman, Justin Kleiman, Megan Kleiman, Ashley Kleiman and Hailey Johnson.
Service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at the Church of Latter-day Saints, 14826 Fruitvale in Valley Center.
The family suggests donations to Elizabeth Hospice, 150 W. Crest St., Escondido, CA 92025 or the American Cancer Society, 2655 Camino Del Rio N., Suite 100, San Diego, CA 92108.

Allen Alonzo Seamons

Allen Alonzo Seamons, 86, with his beautiful tenor voice, joined the heavenly choir on March 11, 2001. Passing away at his home in Escondido, of complications related to Alzheimer's.
He was born Feb. 25, 1915, in Hyde Park, Utah, to George Walter and Lois Preston Chantrill Seamons.
He married Afton Smith Leishman Tams, Aug. 11, 1942, in Pocatello, Idaho. They were later sealed in the Alberta Latter-day Saints temple in Cardston, Alberta, Canada.
He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Force as a a nose gunner on a B-24, based in Italy.
The family moved to Montana in 1948, purchasing farmland which they worked until 1971.
He enjoyed belonging to the Saddle Club there and the many horseback trips he and Afton took to Glacier Park.
After the sale of the farm, they traveled for a year. Upon moving to California they managed various mobile-home parks before becoming resident managers of Rancho Escondido Adult Mobil Home Park from 1974 to 1980, when they retired.
In the LDS church he served as a branch president in Montana and numerous positions in Arizona and California. In December 1979, he was ordained High Priest in the Melchizedek Priesthood. He and his wife served an 18 month mission in St. George, Utah.
He is survived by two sons, Darwin and Garth Tams, and daughter Shelia Bounds; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Katie Sussie of Hyde Park, Utah, and Allie Thornley of Toppenish, Wash.
Preceded him in death were his wife, Afton, in May 2000, 11 brothers and sisters and one great-granddaughter.
Visitation and viewing is scheduled for 1 p.m. and funeral at 2 p.m. Friday, March 16, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Escondido with Bishop Don Finster officiating. Interment will take place at 1 p.m. Monday, March 19, at Hyde Park cemetery in Logan, Utah.

Edna Baker, 88

FALLBROOK - Edna Margaret Baker, 88, died Monday, March 5, 2001.
Born Aug. 2, 1912, in Langlois, Ore., she lived in Fallbrook for one year. She was a homemaker for 70 years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, Vallejo Women#'s Club and a past member of the Rainbow Advisory Board, all in Vallejo.
Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin C. Baker, in 1983. She is survived by daughters Wanda Donati of Cottage Grove, Ore., and Carrie Jacobus of Fallbrook; son Dr. Rodney Baker of Dixon; sisters Ada Campbell of Coos Bay, Ore., Alma Deets of Langlois, Ore., Dora Autry of Gold Beach, Ore., and Mary Capps of Brandon, Ore.; brothers Court Boice of Bandon, Ore., Allen Boice of Gold Beach, Ore., and Alden Boice of Gold Beach, Ore.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, March 12, at Wiggins-Knipp Funeral Home in Vallejo. Burial will follow at Sunrise Memorial cemetery in Vallejo.
The family suggests memorial donations to Shriner Crippled Children#,s Hospital, AlBahr Temple, 5440 Kerney Mesa Dr., San Diego, CA 92111.

Edward Johnson, 82

SAN MARCOS - "Roy" Edward Johnson, 82, died Friday, March 7, 2001, in Escondido.
Born Sept. 30, 1918, in Paden, Okla., he lived in San Marcos for 13 years. He retired as an inspector/supervisor for General Electric. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a Pearl Harbor survivor.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 47 years, Barbara A. Johnson of San Marcos; sons and daughters-in-law Chuck and Linda Sherman of Trabuco Canyon and Jim and Kathy Ward of Escondido; daughter Beverly Hillis of San Marcos; nine grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. and memorial service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop Reuel officiating. Interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside.
The family suggests memorial donations to The American Heart and Lung Association, 3640 Fifth Ave., San Diego, CA 92103.
