FALLBROOK - E.M. "Johnny" Johnston, 88, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, in Fallbrook.
Born Dec. 18, 1911, in Los Angeles, he lived in Fallbrook and Bonsall for 29 years. He was the owner/operator of Property Management for 68 years.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Betty Johnston of Fallbrook; sons and daughter-in-law Jess M. Johnston of Eugene, Ore., and Mark and Maxine Johnston of Laguna Beach; grandchildren Jesse, Zac and Zeb Johnston and Shasta Giovennella; and great-grandchild Evan Giovennella.
No service will be held at the request of the deceased.

Linda Hill, 51
VISTA - Linda Joyce Hill, 51, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, in San Diego.
Born Nov. 6, 1948, in Los Angeles, she lived in Vista for 20 years. She was a sales clerk at San Marcos Office Supply for 15 years.
Mrs. Hill is survived by her husband, James D. Hill of Vista; mother LaVerne Newton of Las Vegas; father Charles Turman of Arkansas; son Jimmy Hill of Vista; daughters Ronda Ornelas of Torrance and Tammy Dilloway of San Diego; brother Fred Turman of Fresno; sister Carol Hurtig of Pennsylvania; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, at Allen Brothers Mortuary, Vista Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. A private family cremation with scattering of cremains at sea is planned.

Jessie Buehler, 81
OCEANSIDE - Jessie B. Buehler, 81, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, in Oceanside.
Born Feb. 24, 1918, in Nashville, Tenn., she lived in Oceanside for 20 years. She was a teacher for the Los Angeles city schools and a member of the Fallbrook Newcomers Club, member and past president of the Fallbrook Encore Club, the Bonsall Womens Club, the Fallbrook Womens Club and an alumnus of USC.
Mrs. Buehler is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jack Buehler of Oceanside; son Jack Jr. Buehler of San Diego; daughter Karen Henderson of Redwood City; grandchildren Kathleen Henderson, Keith Henderson, Diane Patch, Randall Buehler and Brian Buehler; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at the First Presbyterian Church in Oceanside. Interment will take place at a later date.

Ethel Lindow, 88
VISTA - Ethel "Peggy" Viola Lindow, 88, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at her home in Vista.
Born Nov. 27, 1911, in Gallatin, Mo., she lived in Vista for 29 years. She was a baker at South Bay Hospital in Redondo Beach for 10 years.
Mrs. Lindow was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. Lindow, in 1989. She is survived by her sister, Betty Marsh of Long Beach, half brother Donald Lynch of Westerville, Ohio; half sisters Doris Lynch of Gallatin and Colene Davis of Trenton, Mo.; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at Allen Brothers Mortuary, Vista Chapel. A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11, at Allen Brothers Mortuary, Vista Chapel, with the Rev. Mark A. Griffo officiating. Burial will follow at Fallbrook Masonic Cemetery.

TEMECULA - Brian G. Martin, 15, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at his home in Temecula.
Born Dec. 9, 1984, in San Diego, he lived in Temecula for 12 years. He was a freshman at Valley High School and lead guitarist in a local band.
Brian is survived by his parents, Dennis and Karin Martin of Temecula and Mari and Steve Wright of La Costa; brothers Sam Martin and Joe Martin, both of Temecula; sister Sarah Martin of Temecula; and grandparents Bob and Joyce Martin of Coto de Caza, Mike and Carmen Vieyra of Escondido, Joe and Jeannette Lucas of Crofton, Md., and John and Sheila Wright of Escondido.

TEMECULA - James William Gibson, 59, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at his home in Temecula.
Born May 16, 1940, in Los Angeles, he lived in Temecula for 15 years. He was the regional manager of Canadaigua Wine Co. in New York for 10 years and served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Temecula Gun Club and the Temecula Moose Lodge.
Mr. Gibson is survived by his wife, Susan Gibson of Temecula; son David Harford of Denver; and daughters Justine Harford Rogers of Denver and Kathryn Gibson Went of Lincoln, Neb.
A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma. A private cremation is planned.

FALLBROOK - William Patrick Cullen, 65, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at Fallbrook Hospital.
Born Oct. 31, 1934, in Omaha, Neb., he lived in Fallbrook for 27 years. He was a pilot for TWA and a member of Fallbrook Rotary Club.
Mr. Cullen is survived by his wife, Carol Cullen of Fallbrook; sons Chris Cullen and Kevin Cullen, both of Fallbrook; and sister Barbara Ann Nolan of Overland Park, Kan.

Born May 5, 1922, in Indonesia, he lived in Oceanside for 10 years.
Mr. Hamminga is survived by his wife of 57 years, Annette Hamminga of Oceanside; daughters Ilonka Grewar of Yorba Linda, Maureen Bagdan of Walnut Creek and Sandra Bernal of Vista; sister Nora Korsten of Australia; and grandchildren Karen Lee Grewar, Ryan solis Bernal, Nathan Daniel Bernal, Brandon Paul Bernal and Harrison Andrew Bagdan.

CARLSBAD - Ann L. Finch, 88, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, in Carlsbad.
Born Dec. 18, 1911, in Bronx, N.Y., she lived in San Diego County for 25 years. She was a social worker for Los Angeles County and a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Finch is survived by her husband of 19 years, Ed Finch of Carlsbad; son William Hall of Fountain Valley; stepson Ed Finch Jr. of Fairfield; daughters Joan McVelgh of Fallbrook, Sandra DiMauro of Santa Cruz and Kathleen Lippitt of Carlsbad; stepdaughters Norma Sirotnak of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Janice Wilde of Houston, Texas; sisters Margaret Shepard of Cleveland and Blanche Schement of St. Petersburg, Fla.; 19 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

John Bertics, 71
OCEANSIDE - John E. Bertics, 71, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, of cancer, at his home in Oceanside.
He was born Oct. 20, 1928, in Cleveland and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked for the Carlsbad Police Department for 25 years and was the owner of Jay Bee Electric.
Mr. Bertics is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Sandy Bertics of Madison, Wis.; daughter and son-in-law Sandra and Steve Dries of Santee; granddaughter Victoria Bertics of Madison; and his former wife, Pearl Bertics of Carlsbad.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Carlsbad, with the Rev. Joseph Mullen officiating.

LAKE OZARK, Mo. - Albert Arellano, 36, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, in Lake Ozark, Mo.
Born in Oceanside in 1963, he lived in Carlsbad for 26 years.
Mr. Arellano was preceded in death by his mother, Petra Arellano. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Jesus "Chuey" and Tammy Rodriquez of Vista; and sisters and brothers-in-law Margaret and Cruz Martinez of Vista, Maria "Hopie" Sanchez of Oceanside, Virginia and George Cardenas of San Marcos and Patricia "Tita" Edgel of Vista.
A funeral service will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 451 Bobier Drive in Vista.
Jay Hess, 45
OCEANSIDE - Jay Roger Hess, 45, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at Palomar Medical Center.
Born Oct. 25, 1954, in Sacramento, he lived in Oceanside for three years. He was a licensed vocational nurse at Palomar Medical Center. He attended Arcohe Elementary, St. Pius X Junior Seminary and graduated from Galt High School in 1972. He was a theatre arts major at Sacramento City College. He was a member of the North County Region of the San Diego Church of Christ.
Mr. Hess was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Hess. He is survived by his wife of nine years, Lisa Hess of Oceanside; mother and father Jean and John E. Hess of Herald; sons Andrew Hess of Oceanside, Benjamin Hess of the U.S. Navy, Christopher Hess (Rogers) of San Dimas; stepson Richard Herbicek of Escondido; brothers Jeffery Hess of Sacramento and Jason Hess of Olympia, Wash.; sisters Joan-Angela Hess of Sherman Oaks and Jennifer Hess-Pearson of Pasadena.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, at Crest Theater, with Evangelist Drew Nitchoff and Elder Jerry Jordan officiating. A private cremation is planned.

Born Oct. 5, 1911, in Green River, Utah, he lived in Oceanside for 15 years. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad before retiring.
Mr. Groussman was preceded in death by his wife, Gene E. Groussman, in 1990; and his son, Raymond G. Groussman, in 1997. He is survived by his son, Dean Groussman of San Antonio, Texas; daughters Susan Winegar of Salt Lake City, Joan O'Flaherty of Davis and Florence "Lisa" Johnson of Denver; sisters Frieda Murray, Maxine Andren, Ruth Bateman and Helen Seidner; 22 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park in Salt Lake City. Burial will follow.

Born March 5, 1997, in Davenport, Iowa, she lived in Fallbrook.
Christina is survived by her mother and father Julie and Jason Kloft of Fallbrook; sister Courtney Marie Kloft; grandparents Kathy and DeWayne Mahlstedt and Joyce and Dennis Kloft, all of Bettendorf; great-grandparents Violet Chedister of Waterloo, Iowa, Marcus and Linda Mahlstedt of Nashua, Iowa, and Delma Kloft of Bellevue, Iowa; aunt Stephanie Mahlstedt; and uncles Steven Mahlstedt, Andrew Mahlstedt, Daniel Kloft and Tyler Kloft.
