SAN MARCOS - Mary Jane Hewlett, 96, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at her home.
Born Oct. 24, 1904, in Neosho, Mo., she lived in San Marcos for three years and previously lived in Escondido. She was a sales clerk for Christian Art Studio for seven years.
Mrs. Hewlett was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Hewlett, in 1962. She is survived by her sister, Ethel Queener of Newbury, S.C.; grandchildren Cynthia Hewlett of Escondido, Martin Hewlett of Lake Tahoe, Sherry, Diana and Del Turk, all of Murrieta, Lee Slajer of Los Angeles, Lynn Berenschot and Penny and Don Hewlett, all of Escondido; and many great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. today, Dec. 12, at Oak Hill Memorial Park, with the Rev. Richard Williams of Emmanuel Faith Community Church in Escondido officiating. Burial will follow.

SAN DIEGO - Carol J. Martinez, 68, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at Scripps Green Hospital, La Jolla.
Born Sept. 1, 1932, in Escanaba, Mich., she lived in Carmel Valley for six years. She was a registered nurse before retiring.
Mrs. Martinez is survived by her husband, Izar A. Martinez of San Diego; daughters and sons-in-law Jean and Timothy Burgess of King City, Elizabeth and Oscar Chacon of Sonora; sons and daughters-in-law Jeffrey and Susan Martinez of Redlands, Marc and Sonnie Martinez of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; sister Elizabeth Maitland of Estes Park, Colo.; and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 12, at the Village Community Presbyterian Church in Rancho Santa Fe. A private cremation, with inurnment is planned.

SAN MARCOS - Earlene Rood, 69, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, of a stroke.
Born July 8, 1931, in Los Angeles, she lived in San Marcos for 11 years. She worked for Copley Newspapers before retiring in 1988.
Mrs. Rood is survived by her husband of 47 years, Donald Rood of San Marcos; son and daughter-in-law Gary and Jeanne Rood of Escondido; daughter Donna Rood of San Marcos; brother and sister-in-law Roger and Sue Peck of Niwot, Colo.; and grandchildren Amanda Rood and Haley Rood.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, at Cornerstone Community Church in Oceanside, with the Rev. Frank Keeler officiating. A private cremation is planned.

Vivian McDonald, 80
ESCONDIDO - Vivian Lorena McDonald, 80, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at Las Villas Del Norte.
Born July 21, 1920, in Bristow, Okla., she lived in Escondido for 14 years and had lived in Oceanside for 12 years. She was chief inspector for Wem's Electronics for 13 years.
Mrs. McDonald was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Newton McDonald, in 1993. She is survived by her son, Gary Chilcoat of Banning; daughter Mona Sims of Escondido; brothers Ronald Alexander of Oklahoma City and Russell Alexander of Stroud, Okla.; sisters Joyce Lee of Tulsa, Okla., and Vera Stafford of Bristow; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, at Allen Bros. Mortuary, Vista Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Kleinschmidt officiating. A private cremation is planned, with her cremains to be scattered.

POWAY - Mary Jane Hawkins, 95, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, in Poway.
Born Feb. 7, 1905, in Eastlake, Colo., she lived in Poway for 10 years and in East San Diego for 60 years. She was a homemaker for 75 years and enjoyed crossword puzzles and card games.
Mrs. Hawkins was preceded in death by her husband, George Leslie Hawkins, in 1956. She is survived by her son, John Edward Hawkins of the Marshall Islands; daughter and son-in-law Georgia and John Ratcliffe of Escondido; numerous nieces and nephews; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A private family service will be held. Burial will take place at Cypress View cemetery in San Diego.

RAMONA - Daniel Ray Carter, 41, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000.
Born Sept. 18, 1959, in Escondido, he lived in Ramona for 25 years. He graduated from Escondido High School and was a heavy equipment operator and a mechanic for 20 years. He enjoyed nature and friends.
Mr. Carter is survived by his mother, Susanne Y. Carter of Nevada City; brothers Stephen Carter of Santa Ysabel and Harrison Carter of Ramona; sisters Lyda Carter of Ramona and Darlene Carter of San Diego; and nieces and nephews Christine Stahl of San Diego, Travis Carter of Vista and Roland Stahl of Sacramento.

SAN MARCOS - A.R. Robbins, 80, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, in San Marcos.
Born Feb. 21, 1920, in Douglas, Wyo., he lived in San Marcos for seven years. He served in Patton's tank corps in Africa and Europe during World War II and worked in the Nevada gaming industry for many years, the last 30 years in Lake Tahoe, retiring in 1955. He owned a golf club making business and was a member of the Men's Golf Club.
Mr. Robbins is survived by his wife, Pat Smiley Robbins of San Marcos; son Rick Robbins of Georgia; and grandchildren Aaron Robbins and William Dressler.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 16, at St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Carlsbad.

Joseph McDonough, 79
WYNOLA - Joseph L. McDonough, 79, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at his home.
Born Sept. 11, 1921, in Boston, he lived in Wynola for 13 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, earning a Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and a Victory Medal. He was a member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Julian and the Knights of Columbus and served in the Massachusetts National Guard. He worked in office management for more than 40 years.
Mr. McDonough was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Mary McDonough, in 1995. He is survived by his sons, Thomas McDonough of Julian and John McDonough of Princeton, Mass.; daughters Mary Nixon of Redondo Beach, Winnie Dodge of Jamul and Elizabeth Caviano of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and six grandchildren.
A memorial Mass was celebrated Monday, Dec. 11, at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church of Julian, with the Rev. Donal Walsh officiating. A committal service and burial will take place at the Alpine Cemetery.

ESCONDIDO - Robert C. Kelleher, 74, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, in Escondido.
Born Aug. 12, 1926, in Ohio, he lived in Escondido for one year and had lived in Long Beach. He was a physician, a member of the Florence Avenue Foursquare Church in Santa Fe Springs, the Long Beach Yacht Club and the American Medical Association.
Mr. Kelleher was preceded in death by his brother, Bill William Kelleher, this year. She worked for Leahs Club before retiring in 1994. She was a 1948 graduate of Mayfield School of Holy Child Jesus in Pasadena.
Mrs. Munger is survived by her daughter, Kelly Jenkins of Oceanside.
