VISTA - Henry W. Montgomery, 72, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Scripps Green Hospital.
Born Dec. 9, 1927, in Calgary, Alberta, he lived in Vista for four years. He worked for Lockheed Burbank before retiring in June 1990.
Mr. Montgomery is survived by his wife of 48 years, Donna Montgomery of Vista; daughters and sons-in-law Lori and Rick Sheldrick of Palmdale, Jerri and Walt Borkert of Mira Mesa and Toni and Bruce Andersen of Granada Hills; and grandchildren Cameron, Dan and Kevin Berkert, Christal, Stephanie and Taylor Sheldrick and Joshua and Jordin Andersen.
A private family service will take place, with Dr. Richard L. Miller officiating. A private cremation is planned.

Edna Rice, 98
ESCONDIDO - Edna May Rice, 98, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, of heart failure, in Escondido.
Born April 9, 1902, in Boston, she lived in Escondido for three years and had lived in New England for 50 years, in Los Angeles, Sun City, Yucca Valley and Oceanside. She was a bank manager in Quincy, Mass., for several years and was a custodian for several schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District. She was a member of Eckankar.
Mrs. Rice was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Dick, in 1980.

James Tucker, 90
OCEANSIDE - James Styche Tucker, 90, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at his home.
Born Jan. 4, 1910, in Bardwell, Ky., he lived in Oceanside for six years. He was a professor at Centrelia Junior College before retiring and served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942 to 1970.
Mr. Tucker is survived by his wife, Genevieve Tucker of Oceanside; son Ralph Howe of Havasu, Ariz.; daughter Beverly Helfer of Mission Viejo; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be held from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at San Luis Rey Valley United Methodist Church in Oceanside. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Philip Helfer officiating. Interment will take place at Eternal Hills Memorial Park, with military honors.

Alice Seger, 94
RAMONA - Alice R. Seger, 94, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at a local hospital.
Born March 26, 1906, in Douglas County, Minn., she lived in Ramona for seven years and had lived in Palm Springs for many years. She was the office manager for the Desert Hand Laundry in Palm Springs from 1939 to 1969. She was a member of the Community Church, where she served as a greeter, and of the Business Women's Club and the Ramona Adult Day Care Center.
Mrs. Seger is survived by her son, Jim Seger of Julian; daughter Dorothy Hunt of Virginia; sister Julia Strom of Minnesota; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22, at the Community United Methodist Church of Julian, with the Rev. Rick Malec officiating. A private inurnment will take place at the Haven of Rest cemetery in Julian.

ESCONDIDO - Mary E. Haruta, 67, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, in Escondido.
Born Jan. 23, 1933, in Seattle, she lived in Escondido for one year. She worked for the Carpinteria Unified School District and was a member of Vista Buddhist Temple and the Women's Golf Club of Montecite Country Club.
Mrs. Haruto was preceded in death by her brother, Toshio Nishi, in 1934; her husband, Eizo Nishi, in 1994; and her son, Keith Haruta, in 1966. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Kizio Haruto of Escondido; mother Hiroko Nishi of Lincolnwood, Ill.; daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Gary Yagade of San Diego; brother and sister-in-law George and Jean Nishi of Seattle; sister and brother-in-law Amy and Morris Kawamoto of Lincolnwood; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at the Vista Buddhist Temple, with the Rev. Lee Rosenthal officiating.

Jon Stromsoe, 64
FALLBROOK - Jon Douglas Stromsoe, 64, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at his home.
Born Dec. 26, 1935, in Los Angeles, he lived in Fallbrook since 1977. He graduated from Claremont Men's College in Claremont in 1958 and started Fallbrook Insurance Center in his garage. He was a volunteer for the Fallbrook Boys and Girls Club for many years, serving as president of the board of directors in 1989, when the board was formed. He was a member of the Macadamia Society, the Optimist Club, the Fallbrook High School Football Booster Club and a 23-year member of the Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Stromsoe is survived by his wife of 41 years, Janice Stromsoe; daughter Jennifer Stromsoe of San Diego; son and daughter-in-law Michael and Cindy Stromsoe of Fallbrook; grandchildren Keith, Kevin and Lynn Stromsoe; and stepgrandchildren Chris, Doug and Angie Fore.
A celebration of Jon's life was held Wednesday, Dec. 6, at the Packing House Restaurant in Fallbrook. No formal service was held at his request. A private cremation is planned, with his ashes to be scattered at the Fallbrook ranch.

SAN MARCOS - Joseph William Rietman, 85, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at his home.
Born April 14, 1915, in Dyer, Ind., he lived in San Marcos for 10 years. He was a self-employed taxidermist and served as a corporal in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945.
Mr. Rietman was preceded in death by his sons, Richard Allen Rietman, in 1983, and Ronald Joseph Rietman, in 1999; and his mother and father, Regina Huseman and Frank Rietman. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marian Elizabeth Rietman of San Marcos; sons and daughters-in-law John and Maria Rietman of San Marcos, Charles and Manolita Rietman of Conway, S.C., and Robert and Kathy Rietman of Oregon; daughters Virginia Rietman of Covington, Ga., and Chris Rietman of McMinneville, Ore.; brothers Ambrose Rietman, Alphonse Rietman, Aloysius Rietman and Henry Rietman, all of Indiana; sisters Matilda Rietman and Regina Rietman, both of Indiana; grandchildren Jeff, Travis, Dianna, Suzi, Tammi, Danny, Matthew, Eric and Joey Rietman; and great-grandchildren Calvin Hudson and Nathan Loy.

Elmer Mansell, 90
CARLSBAD - Elmer V. "Al" Mansell, 90, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at his home.
Born June 28, 1910, in Pasadena, he lived in Carlsbad for 20 years and had lived in Pasadena and Lake County. He was a detective lieutenant with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department before retiring in 1968. He was an avid fisherman and a private pilot, a shuffleboard player and world traveler.
Mr. Mansell was preceded in death by his son, Edward Mansell, in 1990. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Harriett Mansell of Carlsbad; sons Don Mansell of San Anselmo and Richard Mansell of Lancaster; daughter Darlene Barr of Fallbrook; three brothers; one sister; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
No service will be held at the request of the deceased. A private cremation is planned.

OCEANSIDE - Keith Blake Leaverton, 68, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at San Diego Hospice.
Born Aug. 8, 1932, in globe, Ariz., he lived in Oceanside for 24 years. He was a surveyor with Operating Engineers, Local 12 for 50 years and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member and past president of Operating Engineers Retiree Club.
Mr. Leaverton is survived by his wife of 34 years, Naomi Leaverton of Oceanside; sons and daughters-in-law Michael and Dena Leaverton of Homedale, Idaho, John and Terry Leaverton of Yucaipa and Lee Leaverton and fiance Gina Byrd of Vista; daughter and son-in-law Sandra Lynn and Jack Tye of Fallbrook; sister Lori Kay Leaverton of Anaheim; nephew David Grenke of New York City; niece Sherri Hassell of El Dorado Hills; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Born Jan. 28, 1929, in Philadelphia, he lived in Vista for five years. He worked for S.D. Janitorial Supply before retiring in 1991 and served as airman 1st class in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

SAN MARCOS - Frank Herman Reylek, 85, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at a local medical facility.
Born April 7, 1915, in Vesleville, N.D., he lived in San Marcos for 23 years and in La Mesa for 24 years. He was a storekeeper for San Diego Gas & Electric Co. before retiring after 24 1/2 years. He was a drum player in a trio that played at Vista Senior Center and played in the Palomar Estates East Mobile Park Kazoo Band of the Oldies But Goodies.
Mr. Reylek is survived by his wife of 56 years, Loraine E. Reylek of San Marcos; sons and daughters-in-law Bradley and Pamela Reylek of Temecula, Jerriold and Debra Reylek of Cathedral City and Thomas A. Reylek of Phoenix; brother and sister-in-law Steven and Martha Reylek of Schafer, Minn.; grandchildren Melissa and Adrian Robinson and Jasmine Reylek and Olin Reylek, all of Temecula, and Sara Reylek and Steven Reylek of Cathedral City; and great-grandchild Zackary Robinson of Temecula.

Born Feb. 29, 1924, in Saskatchewan, Canada, she lived in Sun City for 18 years. She was an administrator for the VA Hospital for 15 years and enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, cooking and being a homemaker.
Mrs. Lendzion is survived by her husband of 49 years, Louis Lendzion of Sun City; sons and daughters-in-law John and Julie Lendzion of Colorado Springs, Colo., Steve and Patti Lendzion of Sacramento and Thomas and Randi Lendzion of Simi Valley; daughter Mary Lendzion of Atlanta; and six grandchildren.
A rosary will be recited at 10:40 a.m. Monday, Dec. 11, at Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at Riverside National Cemetery.
