CHULA VISTA - Salamina Tuumafua Suitono I'a Galea'i Tu'i Manu'a, 85, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001 of natural causes.
Born Feb. 10, 1916, in Ta'u, Manu'a Islands (Samoa), she lived in San Diego County for 47 years. She was a homemaker.
Ms. Suitonu was preceded in death by her father I'a Tu'i Manu'a and mother Talailelagi. She is survived by 16 nieces and nephews; 55 great-nieces and nephews; and 82 grand-nieces and nephews.
Anne Conti, 79
SAN MARCOS - Anne Marie Conti, 79, died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, in Oceanside.
Born May 14, 1921, in New York, she lived in San Marcos for 14 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Conti was preceded in death by her husband, John Alan Conti, on Oct. 7, 1997. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Alan and Verena Conti of San Marcos.
A private cremation with interment at Fort Rosecrans National cemetery is planned.

Mosby Impson, 89
MURRIETA - Mosby Ellen Impson, 89, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at her home.
Born June 7, 1911, in Rocky Mountain, Va., she lived in Murrieta for 26 years. She worked as a clerk for the city of Southgate for nine years. She enjoyed square dancing in Corona and was a past president of AARP Corona Chapter. She was active with the Baptist Church of Corona.
Mrs. Impson is survived by her daughter Diane Williams of Murrieta; son-in-law Bill Williams of Murrieta; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A private service is planned. Interment will be at Angeles Abbey Memorial Park in Compton.

VISTA - Doris Marguerite Hartmann, 81, died Sunday, April 15, 2001.
Born July 17, 1919, in Nanticoke, Canada, she lived in Vista for 15 years. She was a member of Shadowridge Country Club and St. Mark's Parish.
Mrs. Hartmann was preceded in death by her husband, Rupert L. Hartmann, on April 30, 1998 and son Phil Hartmann on May 28, 1998. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law John and Valerie Hartmann of Topanga Canyon and Paul and Christy Hartmann of Aguanga; daughters and son-in-law Jane Hartmann of San Francisco, Nancy and Joseph Martino of Sidney, Ohio, Martha Willey of Santa Maria and Mary Hartmann of Dana Point; sister Madelyn Tonkin of Mexico City Beach, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today, April 20, at St. Mark's Catholic Church in San Marcos with the Rev. Burt Bowdoin officiating. A private cremation is planned.

LAKE ELSINORE - Jose L. Hernandez, 51, died Friday, April 13, 2001, at Inland Valley Regional Medical Center in Wildomar.
Born Oct. 13, 1949, he lived in Lake Elsinore for one year and Temecula for four years. He worked for Dolphin Steel Co. in shipping and receiving in El Centro for 10 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Hernandez is survived by his wife, Mary Hernandez of Temecula; daughters Margie Zambrano of Sun City and Monica Espinoza of Lake Elsinore; sons Jose Luis Hernandez Jr. of Temecula and Jimmy Hernandez of Temecula; sisters Guadeloupe Hernandez of Mexicali and Connie Ruiz of Santa Maria; brother Guillermo of Mexicali; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. today, April 20, at Miller-Jones Mortuary in Sun City followed by a graveside service at 12:01 p.m. at Riverside National cemetery at staging area 5 with the Rev. James Dale officiating.

ESCONDIDO - Mary J. Bastyr, 82, died Friday, April 13, 2001.
Born March 19, 1919, in Richlands, Va., she lived in Escondido for five years. She was a homemaker for 57 years. She served in the U.S. Army during World War II. She enjoyed gardening, country music, traveling, square dancing and reading.
Mrs. Bastyr is survived by her husband of 57 years, Irvin Bastyr of Escondido; son and daughter-in-law Bill and Carmen Bastyr of Cerritos; daughter and son-in-law Judy and Clay Sweatland of Escondido; brothers and sisters-in-law Ken and Joan Wysor of Richlands, Va; Bill and Lula Wysor of Richlands, Va., and George and Carol Wysor of Slaughter, La.; and grandchildren Michelle and Michael Voye of Murrieta and Nicole Bastyr of Cerritos.

Barbara Graf Daniels, 66
Barbara Daniels died peacefully at home in Fallbrook, on April 11, 2001. During her last few days she was under hospice care surrounded by family and friends. Barbara was born in San Diego on March 1, 1935. After graduation from high school in Claremont, she attended Stanford University until she married
James Daniels. As the wife of a Navy pilot she traveled and lived in may different locations prior to settling down for good in Fallbrook. Barbara was a true Southern Californian with a steadfast love of the areas' gardening climate and lifestyle. After her children were grown she completed her formal education and received a bachelor's degree in botany from UCR. She then served as a docent at Quail Botanical Gardens for the final 13 years of her life. Her colleagues at Quail recently honored her with an award that noted, in part, "Her preparation of our annual index Seminum, and her responses to requests for seed, provide a vital link between QBG and botanical institutions around the world." Barbara was a devoted wife and mother who also had a life-long passion for plants and gardening. She
loved the beauty of nature. Everywhere she lived she left thriving plants and beautiful gardens when she had to move on. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, James Daniels; daughters Christine Gorum of Conroe, Texas and Karen Cipolla of Arroyo Grande; brother Roderic Graf of Claremont; and five grandchildren.
Barbara will be greatly missed.

Juanita Ness, 90
CARLSBAD - Juanita M. Ness, 90, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at her daughter's home in Lake San Marcos of cancer.
Born July 29, 1910, in Sparta, Ohio, she lived in Carlsbad for 10 years. She retired in 1967 from Lake County Court House. She was a member of the Emblem Club No. 116 in Oceanside and a lifetime member of No. 85 in Painesville, Ohio. She was a member of the Golf Association and a volunteer for Crippled Children. She was past president of American Legion Auxiliary.
Mrs. Ness was preceded in death by her first husband, Albert M. Davino; second husband Donald W. Ness; daughter Debora Lynn Ness; and grandson James Kevin Davino. She is survived by son James R. Davino of San Clemente and stepson Albert M. Davino of Ashtabula, Ohio; daughter and son-in-law Sharon D. and W. L. "Hap" Adams of San Marcos; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service is planned for a later date in Painesville, Ohio. A private cremation and inurnment in Painesville Ohio is planned.

RAMONA - Lee Stump, 71, died Wednesday, April 18, 2001.
Born July 14, 1929, in Huntington Park, he lived in San Diego Country Estates for five years. He had been the production manager for I.T.T. Corp. for 35 years. He enjoyed boating and fixing things.
Mr. Stump is survived by his wife, Kay Stump of Ramona; sons Lance Stump of Perris and Darren of Ramona; daughter Shannon Harrison of Nuevo; brother Curtis Stump of Silverdale, Wash., and five grandchildren.

Mrs. Norton is survived by her husband, Robert "Bob" Norton of Menifee, daughter Robin O'Hanlon of Menifee, sons William "Bill" Norton of Desert Center and George Norton of Escondido; mother Velma J. Goeller of Menifee; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Born June 22, 1949, in Long Beach, he lived in Carlsbad since 1979. He enjoyed golf, traveling, music and guitar playing.
Mr. Stile was preceded in death by his father, Warren Arthur Stile, in 1972. He is survived by his mother, Gene Stile of Long Beach; brother Tracy Stile of Lahaina, Maui; and daughter Tiffany Stile of New Jersey.

Luka Skrbic, 60
SAN MARCOS - Luka Skrbic, 60, died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at Palomar Medical Center in Escondido.
Born Nov. 18, 1940, in Garjak, Krajina, he lived in San Marcos for 22 years. He was the owner of Foreign Car Specialist, an automotive repair shop. He was the current congregational president of Serbian Orthodox Church of St. Petka in San Marcos. He was a member of Serbian Chetniks "Ravna Gora" organization and the General Milan Nedic Fund.
Mr. Skrbic is survived by his wife of 33 years, Sophie Skrbic of San Marcos; brother Suetobar Skrbic of Belgrade, Serbia; sister Marija Skrbic of Subotica, Serbia; nephews Liubomic Skrbic and Aleksandar Skrbic, both of San Marcos; and nieces Alexsandra Skrbic and Snezana Skrbic, both of San Marcos.

Mr. Seiler was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Seiler, in 1994.

Born April 6, 1928, in Los Angeles, he lived in Rancho Bernardo for one year. He was a retired president of FINCOR, an electronics producer. He was a member of WhiteRose Masonic Lodge in New York, Pa., a Fellow at International Electonical Electronic Engineers (IEEE), and a member of International Wine and Food Society, York, Pa. Chapter.
Mr. Byloff is survived by his wife of 52 years, Virgina Byloff of Rancho Bernardo; sons Thomas Conrad Byloff of Denver, Richard Grant Byloff of York, Pa., William John Byloff of Ramona and James Robert Byloff of San Diego; daughters Julia Anne Myers of York, Pa., and Elizabeth Louise Spangler of Sinking Spring, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Earl Downey Sr., 84
CARLSBAD - Earl C. Downey Sr., 84, died Saturday, April 14, 2001.
Born June 11, 1916, in Trinity, Ky., he retired from the U.S. Army in 1963. He was a career infantry officer, retiring with the rank of lieutenant commander. He served in World War II and the Korea War. He received the Bronze Star three times, an Army Commendation Medal three times and the Combat Infantry Badge with Star. He was a Elks Club president, Kiwanian of the year and a member of Alzheimer's Society.
Mr. Downey was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Fredricka, on April 23, 1998. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Joe and Kathy Downey of La Mesa and Kim and Krystal Downey of Solvang; daughter Barbara Downey of Carlsbad; brothers and sisters-in-law Dennis and Delores Downey of Tronton, Ohio, Betty Downey of Manchester, Ohio and Edna Downey of Tronton, Ohio; sister and brother-in-law Sharon and Bill Phillips of Znesville, Ohio; grandchildren Justin, Bryon, Dillon Beckki, Karrie, Michael, Scott, Shannon and Laura; and two great-grandchildren.

Born Oct. 25, 1912, in Greensborgh, N.C., she was a graduated from the University of North Carolina. She taught fifth grade in Greensborgh. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed going to the Josyln Senior Center in Escondido where she participated in dancing and socializing for 18 years.
Mrs. Ullman was preceded in death by her husband, Philip I. Ullman. She is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Ullman of Rancho Santa Fe and Linda BeBault of Salt Lake City; and granddaughters Lorraine Getz of Los Angeles and Monica Merced of Oklahoma City.
Services have been held in Tucson, Ariz.
