CARLSBAD - Debbie Steinbrenner, 40, died Monday, April 9, 2001.
Born Feb. 4, 1961, in Gary, Ind., she lived in Carlsbad for 10 years.
She was a cashier at Carlsbad Country Store and a softball mom.
Ms. Steinbrenner was preceded in death by her mother, Judith K. Steinbrenner, on Jan. 13, 2000.
She is survived by her companion of 18 years, Darren Davis of Carlsbad; father Ronald Steinbrenner of San Diego; daughters Ashley Davis and Laurie Davis, both of Carlsbad; brother John Steinbrenner of San Diego; sisters Karen Lopez and Jody Lopez, both of Fallbrook and Jill Larson of El Cajon; grandmother Mildred Clarke of Kentucky; great-aunt Pauline Smith of San Diego and aunt and uncle Jane and Clancy Trent of Kentucky.
A memorial and graveside service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 20, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park with the Rev. David Plank officiating.

SAN MARCOS - Clarice May Mooney, 85, died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at Madonna Maria Care Home.
Born May 11, 1915, in Colorado, she lived in San Marcos for 30 years.
Ms. Mooney was preceded in death by her husband, Francis E. Mooney, in 1969.
She is survived by her daughter, Lila L. Grondahl of Minneapolis.
Burial will be held at a later date and time at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale.

ESCONDIDO - Margaret Buerkle, 95, died Saturday, April 14, 2001.
Born Jan. 27, 1906, in Italy, she lived in Escondido for 18 years.
She was a seamstress for Tillie Schneider for 35 years.
Mrs. Buerkle was preceded in death by her husband, Anthonio Piccirillo, in 1959.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Pat P. and Rita Piccirillo of Torrence and Anthony and Ellen Piccirillo of San Marcos; daughter Maryann Bukala of Escondido; brother Dominick Vacarello of Floral City, Fla.; sisters and brothers-in-law Josephine and Steve Stanky of Waterford, Pa., Rose and John Stabb of Erie, Pa., and Anna Dominick of James Town, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Born Dec. 27, 1913, in St. Louis, Mo., she lived in Carlsbad for two years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Uhlig is survived by her husband, John P. Uhlig of Carlsbad; son Ronald Uhlig of Carlsbad; sister Martha Blanke of St. Louis, Mo.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

RAMONA - William D. Engelhardt, 74, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at his home.
Born Sept. 5, 1926, in Bancroft, Neb., he lived in Ramona for three years.
He was a tool and die maker for Solar Turbines in San Diego and served in the U.S. Air Force at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas.
He was a member of the Ramona Lutheran Church and enjoyed gardening and working on cars.
Mr. Engelhardt is survived by his sons Brian and Brad Engelhardt, both of San Diego; daughter Debbie Blais of San Diego; sister Fern Nolting of Columbus, Ind.; and grandchildren Jeffrey and Ryan Blais and Sarah and Nathan Engelhardt.

Born Nov. 26, 1918, in Italy, she lived in Fallbrook for five years and was a homemaker for more than 60 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Langford was preceded in death by her husband, Paul B. Langford in 1987. She is survived by sons Paul B. Langford Jr., of Menifee, Robert L. Langford of Victorville, William A. Langford of Minooka, Ill., and Rich R. Langford of Victorville; daughters Pauline Krok of Fallbrook and Patricia A. FALLBROOK - William Thomas Black, 81, died Thursday, April 12, 2001.
Born May 12, 1919, in Tutwiler, Mass., he lived in Fallbrook for 15 years. He had been a civil engineer for the Office of Federal Inspections for 25 years. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II. He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Mr. Black is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary Arlene Black of Fallbrook; sons Bryce John Black of Arkansaw, Wis., and Ross Allen Black of Lawrence, Kan.; sister Nell Black Person of Clovis; and three grandchildren.

She was a member of Ebell Club of Long Beach, PEO and Presbyterian Church bell choir. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, and traveling.
Mrs. Redford was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Dwight Redford, on Jan. 6, 1974.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Dorothy R. and Edward M. Paterson of Carlsbad; grandchildren Linda Lennertz, Dan E. Paterson, Kent Paterson and Ned Paterson; and 10 great-grandchildren.

ROMOLAND - Joseph Anthony Swiatly, 81, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at Menifee Valley Medical Center in Sun City of congestive heart failure.
Born May 27, 1919, in Chicago, he lived in Romoland for nine years. He was a tooling inspector for Hughes Helicopter in Culver City for 20 years. He enjoyed playing the accordion and the horse races.
Mr. Swiatly was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, and brothers Frank and Carl. He is survived by son Leo Swiatly of Romoland; sisters Angeline Besco, Shirley Cusick, and Lorraine Wachick, all of Illinois and Elizabeth Fery of Oregon; and one grandchild.

Mrs. Perez was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Alejandro S. Perez; sons John, Joe and Edward Perez; and daughter Angie Perez. Born May 12, 1927, in Norwood, Mass., she lived in Lake Elsinore for seven years. She was a manager for 20 years. She was a past president of Little League baseball and was a member of the American Legion and VFW, both of Lake Elsinore.
Mrs. Kuhse was preceded in death by her brother, Dale Kuhse. She is survived by her son, Steven Kuhse of Acton; daughter Cheryl Pastor of Long Beach; and seven grandchildren.

MURRIETA - Mark Hanna Severtson, 88, died Friday, April 13, 2001, at Hospice of the Valley Residential Care of complications of aging.
Born Nov. 11, 1912, in Middle Port, Wash., he lived in Murrieta for two years. He had lived in Buena Park for more than 20 years, and in Indio for four years before moving to Murrieta. He had been an oil driller for Atlantic Oil Co. for 45 years. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing.
Mr. Severtson was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Edith Severtson; two sisters and three brothers. He is survived by his son, Thomas Severtson of Temecula; daughter Lois Cox of Perris; sister Julia Johnson of Riverside, who is 99 years old; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled for noon, today, April 17, and memorial service at 1 p.m. at Miller-Jones Mortuary Inc. with the Rev. Gerry McGuinness officiating. Interment will be at Coachella Valley cemetery in Coachella.

SUN CITY - Viljo John Saari, 90, died Friday, April 6, 2001, at Menifee Valley Medical Center.
Born Nov. 12, 1910, in DeKalb, Ill., he lived in Sun City for 23 years. He worked as a teacher/principal for 35 years for River Grove District 85 1/2 in River Grove, Ill. He was a dual member of the Masonic Lodge. He was past master of the Leyden Lodge in Illinois and a member of Lodge 411 in Sun City. He was a member of North Course Golf Club in Sun City, the billiard club and the Illinois Club of Sun City.
Mr. Saari is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ethyle Saari of Sun City; daughters Sonja Sue Hoch and Diann Jo Richau, both of Upland; sisters Eila Brooks of Richmond, Va., and Lila Toivonen of Sun City; brother Joe Saari of Clearwater, Fla.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
