OCEANSIDE - Coral E. Beck, 96, died Sunday, April 1, 2001, in Carlsbad.
Born April 29, 1904, in Clackamas County, Ore., she lived in Oceanside for 50 years. She was a retired musician and a member of Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Beck was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Beck, in 1980.
She is survived by several nieces.
A graveside service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, April 5, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park with Poinsettia Chapter 287 Order of the Eastern Star officiating.
Burial will be at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Eleanor Fisher, 79
FOUNTAIN VALLEY - Eleanor Chatham Fisher, 79, died Monday, March 26, 2001, of cardiac arrest.
Born Jan. 4, 1922, in San Diego, she lived in Fountain Valley for 27 years. She spent all of her early life in Escondido and was a graduate of Escondido High School in 1940.
Mrs. Fisher is survived by her husband of 54 years, Malcolm P. Fisher of Fountain Valley; son Albert Fisher of Paradise; daughter Paula Fisher of Fullerton; brother Thomas Chatham of Escondido; and grandchildren Joshua and Jerrad Fisher.
Services were held at Pacific View Memorial Park in Newport Beach.
Eugene Kusmiak, 93
Eugene Kusmiak, 93, of Fallbrook passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Friday, March 30, 2001. Known to many in Fallbrook as a political activist who provided a liberal perspective on most public issues, Kusmiak had a long and interesting life prior to moving to the Fallbrook area.
Married in 1955 to the former Iona Noble - an aspiring opera singer - Eugene had a number of careers, spanning four decades, all related to music.
A concert pianist, military band leader, Broadway and movie musical conductor, coach for professional vocalists and instrumentalists and piano teacher for children.
Kusimak was born in Clifton, New Jersey, Dec. 22, 1907.
A scholarship recipient and graduate of the Julliard School of Music in piano and composition, Kusmiak toured the country as a concert pianist. A notable transcontinental tour was providing piano accompaniment to eminent Russian violinist Toscha Seidel, which included performances at Carnegie Hall.
Kusmiak was a World War II veteran, having served as the bandleader for the famous Third Infantry Division of the Fifth Army in Africa and Europe. He received the Bronze Star medal, the Oak Leaf Cluster and a Distinguished Unit Citation.
After World War II, Kusmiak traded his Steinway for the podium. He conducted the orchestra for such Broadway musicals as "Lute Song," "The King and I," "Annie Get Your Gun," "Lost in the Stars," "The Sound of Music," and the nationally touring Martyn Green Gilbert & Sullivan Company.
The actress Mary Martin described Kusmiak as "an unusually fine conductor. He has the respect of his orchestra and is in all ways an asset."
His work with Seidel had included performances of "Intermezzo," which led to Kusmiak serving as the musical conductor of the film "Intermezzo," which starred Leslie Howard and Ingrid Bergman.
He also served as a piano soloist and orchestra conductor at the famed Jones Beach Theater in Long Island, New York.
After retiring from the stage, Kusmiak taught piano and was a vocal coach in Northern New Jersey.
The Kusmiaks retired to Fallbrook in 1987, following a year in Temecula. They had lived in New York City and New Jersey for the previous 35 years.
Kusmiak was an avid gardener and reader. His frequent editorial letters were published by the Los Angeles Times, the North County Times and other publications. He was a political activist and a member of the Fallbrook Democratic Club.
He is survived by wife Iona Kusmiak of Fallbrook and son Eugen Kusmiak II of New York City. No memorial services are planned and the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Eugene's name to the American Civil Liberties Union, 125 Broad St., 18th Floor, New York, N.Y. 10004, or to your favorite charity.
Cynthia Moyers, 69
LAKE SAN MARCOS - Cynthia Schick Moyers, 69, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001.
Born July 17, 1931, in Xenia, Ohio, she lived in Lake San Marcos since 1956.
She was retired from Datagraphix as a librarian. She was a graduate of Northwestern University, in 1953.
Mrs. Moyers is survived by her mother, Esther Muriel Schick of Xenia, Ohio; and daughter Melissa Marie Moyers of Mammoth Lakes.
A memorial service is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 6, at La Jolla Presbyterian Church.

CARLSBAD - Ann Theresa Caps, 72, died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Vencor Hospital in San Diego.
Born Sept. 25, 1928, in New York City, she lived in Carlsbad for five years.
She had been a flight attendant with United Air Lines. She was a member of Scleroderma Association, United Air Line Flight Attendant Association, St. Patrickıs Catholic Church and St. Johnıs Catholic Church.
Mrs. Caps is survived by her mother, Mary Costomiris and father Euripedes Costomiris, both of New York City; son and daughter-in-law John and Donna Caps of Jacksonville, Fla.; brothers and sisters-in-law Robert and Mary Costomiris of Carlsbad, Alexander and Jeanie Costomiris of Hoboken, N.J. and George Costomiris of Haddam, Conn.; and grandchildren Christopher and Annie.

Born Jan. 3, 1937, in Philadelphia, she lived in Oceanside for 20 years.
She was a supervisor for Paul Ecke, Inc. a wholesale flower grower, for 20 years. She lived in Los Angeles prior to moving to the Carlsbad area 50 years ago.
Mrs. Suarez was preceded in death by her mother, Eunice Wallace, in 1999.
She is survived by son Ron Suarez of Oceanside; daughters Sally Goodrich of Desconso and Debbie Hennessy of Oceanside; sister Lois Brouws of Chino; and three grandchildren.

Bill Bradley, 81
ESCONDIDO - Bill R. Bradley, 81, died Friday, March 30, 2001.
Born Dec. 17, 1919, in Los Angeles, he lived in Escondido for 22 years.
He was a management planner for Rockwell for 32 years and retired in 1978.
He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II as a lieutenant commander. He was a member of the Escondido Country Club and a member of the Masons. He enjoyed traveling the world, golfing, sailing, building boats and reading.
Mr. Bradley is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ginger Bradley of Escondido; daughter and son-in-law Margie and Jim Broder of Ramona; grandchildren Carrie Outlaw and Aaron Hershman; and four great-grandchildren.
Private services and cremation are planned.

CARLSBAD - Allan O. Kelly, 100, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001.
Born Dec. 5, 1900, in Carlsbad he retired in 1960 from ranching.
He was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church and a Rotarian for 53 years.
He served on the San Diego County Water Authority Board for 15 years. He was president of the County Farm Bureau, and Carlsbad citizen of the year.
Mr. Kelly is survived by his wife, Katherine of Carlsbad; son and daughter-in-law W. Allan and Dede Kelly of Carlsbad; daughter and son-in-law Lucia and Marvin Sippel of Carlsbad; grandchildren Doug Sippel, David Kelly, Andrea Pasek, Carol Kelly, Greg Sippel, and Susan; and eight great-grandchildren.

TEMECULA - Joan Roberta Wahlig, 72, died Saturday, March 31, 2001, at her home of cancer.
Born Jan. 10, 1929, in New York, she lived in Temecula for 20 years.
She worked for Gardnerıs Serendipity. She was a member and served as president of the Temecula Valley Womenıs Club. She enjoyed golf, gardening and home decorating.

VISTA - Gladys Patricia McNall, 80, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at Tri City Medical Center.
Born March 17, 1921, in Ohio, she lived in Vista for 50 years.
She was a records secretary at Camp Pendleton Naval Hospital for 35 years and was a member of Ladies Auxiliary of Fleet Reserve Association.
Mrs. McNall is survived by her husband of 58 years, W.L. ³Mac² McNall of Vista; son James L. McNall of Carlsbad; daughters Kayann Salseth of Vista and Toni Jean Buck of Camp; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
No formal services are planned. A private cremation is planned.

Delbert Pratt Christenson
Del was the beloved husband of Elyse Karver Christenson, father of Micaela and Clay Christenson, and noted environmentalist.
Del was valedictorian at Utah State and Master in Soil Science at U.C. Davis.
He was one of the founders of Secor, an environmental consulting firm. Del loved skiing and was great at it. He loved mountain climbing and he also loved to hike in Utah and Northern California.
He loved his land in Mount Shasta and would walk every foot of it. He would try at every chance that he could to keep the environment healthy, but more than all of that he loved his family and friends.
He will be missed and thought of by all whom he has touched.
Memorial services were held at Temple Solel at 11 a.m. April 4, in Encinitas.

ESCONDIDO - Bianca Angel Vargas, 6, died Sunday, April 1, 2001, in San Diego Hospice.
Born June 13, 1994, in Escondido, she attended kindergarten and pre-school at Central Elementary in Escondido. She attended Sunday School at Emmanuel Faith Community Church.
Bianca was preceded in death by her grandmother Maria Vargas, in 1998, and sister Kathryn Vargas, in 1986.
She is survived by her mother Maggie Vargas and father Juan Vargas, both of Escondido; sister Elisha Vargas of Escondido; brothers Jesus Vargas and Pedro Vargas, both of Escondido; uncles Pedro, John, Anthony Arguelles and Raul Vargas, all of Escondido and Alfonso Vargas of Vista; aunts Connie Arguelles of Escondido, Maria Gilbert of Oregon, Manuela Arguelles, Angie Arguelles, Dora Arguelles, Anna Arguelles, Marina Vargas, and Laya Villalobos, all of Escondido; grandparents Humberto Arguelles and Ma. OCEANSIDE - Patricia B. D'Ettel, 82, died Monday, April 2, 2001, at Scripps Oceanview Convalescent Home in Encinitas.
Born Oct. 9, 1918, in Walla Walla, Wash., she lived in Oceanside for five years. She was a self-employed genealogist, retiring in 1996. She was past president of the Ancient Order of Druids in Mt. Tamalpias. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and of the National Genealogy Society.
Mrs. D'Ettel was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Holland D'Ettel, in 1998, and daughter Lillian J. Gevings, in 1992. She is survived by daughters Joannette Joy Huskey of Oceanside and Patricia H. Tompkins of Gravette Ariz.; sister Marguerite Davis of Eureka; niece Phyllis Giacomini of Eureka; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Everett Dahlquist, 91
RANCHO BERNARDO - Everett C. Dahlquist, 91, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in Rancho Bernardo since 1968. He was a constructions procurement project and contract executive for several contractors in New York, Chicago and the U.S. government. He graduated from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn., in 1936. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served as vice president, treasurer and a director of the Rancho Bernardo Swim and Tennis Club from 1979 to 1986. He was a volunteer for the California Disaster Service of Rancho Bernardo. He was a long-time member of the Rancho Bernardo Inn Men's Golf Club and a member of the Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Dahlquist is survived by his wife, Helen of Rancho Bernardo; sons and daughters-in-law Carl and Jeanine of Escondido, Paul and Maureen of Wheaton, Ill.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

VIDAL - George Young, 86, died Saturday, March 31, 2001, at Veterans Hospital in Riverside.
Born Aug. 20, 1914, he lived in Vidal for 35 years. He was retired from civil service and was a World War II veteran.
Mr. Young was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Young in 1991. He is survived by her foster daughter and son-in-law Ruby and Richard Shalla of Novato; brother and sister-in-law Harold and Betty Young of Oceanside; sisters and brother -in-law Marie Young and Peggy and Robert McQuaid, all of Costa Mesa; grandchildren Thomas E. and Marcus Rome; and great-grandchildren Ariana, Aaron, Joshua and Caitlin Rome.

Katherine Kundinger, 93
ENCINITAS - Katherine M. Kundinger, 93, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at Las Villas de Carlsbad.
Born April 17, 1907, in Chicago, she lived in Encinitas for 56 years. She worked as a secretary at the Paul Ecke Ranch in Encinitas for more than 25 years, and retired in 1976. Her family was one of the original founders of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Encinitas, where she served as one of the early presidents of the Women's Altar Society. She was the charter secretary and a founding member of the St. John's Parish Credit Union and a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was a volunteer with the Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA and with the Hospice of the North Coast in Carlsbad and Encinitas. She was active with the Secular Order of Franciscans at Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside.
Mrs. Kundinger was preceded in death by her husband, Russell R. Kundinger, in June 1962. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Bob and Jeanette Kundinger of San Marcos, Bill and Darrelyn Kundinger of Carlsbad; son Tom Kundinger and companion Fran Coccia of San Marcos; sister Loretta Adams of Escondido; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be recited at 11:30 a.m. with Mass celebrated at noon, Wednesday, April 11, at St. John the Evangelist Church. A private interment is planned.

Thomas Winkler Jr., 44
Why, Ariz. - Thomas "Marty" Winkler Jr., 44, died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, in Tucson, Ariz.
He was born on Oct. 9, 1956, and was a field operations supervisor for the U.S. Border Patrol. He attended Palomar Junior College and the University of California at Santa Barbara. He enjoyed motorcycles and competitive shooting. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose.
Mr. Winkler was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Martin Winkler Sr., in 1988 and his step-father Elvin Rau in 1997. He is survived by his wife, of 19 years, Susan Winkler of Why; son Harlan Thomas Winkler of Why; daughter Victoria Louise Winkler of Why; mother Peggy Mozingo Rau of Escondido; brother Joseph Carl Winkler of Bakersfield; and sister Lori Joyce Zinck of Kailua, Hawaii.
Visitation was held at Douglass Funeral Home in Oho, Ariz., on Saturday, March 17, with a U.S. Border Patrol honor guard. Memorial services were conducted by the Chaplain Jim Stout of the U.S. Border Patrol in the Ajo Moose Lodge on Saturday, March 17.

VISTA - Kathleen Elaine Crum, 86, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at a local residential care center.
Born Dec. 12, 1914, in Chapman, Kan., she lived in Vista for 26 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Crum is survived by her husband of 64 years, Rodney J. Crum of Vista; son Neil Crum of Ontario; and grandson Adam Crum of Dozier, Ala.
