Jack Gose, 80

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Jack Gose, 80, died Saturday, April 22, 2000, at his home in Anchorage.

Born Feb. 19, 1920, in Tulsa, Okla., he lived in Anchorage. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and earned a bachelor of arts degree at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. He was the superintendent of schools at Arriba, Colo., from 1949 to 1958. He earned his master's degree in school administration from the University of Northern Colorado in 1954. He was an administrator with the Wrangell School District in Alaska and worked for the state Department of Education in Alaska. He was assistant superintendent for the Anchorage School District from 1969 to 1975.

Mr. Gose is survived by his wife of 58 years, Darlene F. Gose; sons Terry H. Gose and John B. Gose; daughter Janet D. Patch; daughters-in-law Patty J. Gose and Susan Black-Gose; and grandchildren Ashle, Britne and Morgan Gose and Steven and Michael Gose, all of Anchorage.

A memorial service was held Monday, April 27, at Evergreen Memorial Chapel in Anchorage. A memorial service and interment will take place on Monday, May 1, at Fairmount cemetery in Denver.

The family suggests memorial donations to the American Nephrology Nurses Association, Northern Lights Chapter, 4160 Tudor Circle Drive, Anchorage, AK 99508.

Betty Mitchell, 74

CARLSBAD - Betty A. Mitchell, 74, died Saturday, April 22, 2000, of pulmonary fibrosis, at her home.

Born July 27, 1925, in New York, she lived in Carlsbad for 20 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for more than 26 years. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and of Wendy Haskett's writing group.

Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by her husband, Aldino Rotunno, in September 1991. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Derick and Vicki Rotunno of La Crescenta, Robert and Maureen Rotunno of Oceanside and Paul and Amy Rotunno of Greeley, Colo.; daughter and son-in-law Marie and Artie Bertelsen of Ridgewood, N.J.; and grandchildren Caitlin, Christiana, Corinna, Mitchell, Allison, Taylor and Brittany.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Carlsbad, with the Rev. Steve McCall officiating. Burial will take place at a future date.

The family suggests memorial donations to Hospice of the North Coast, 5421 Avenida Encinas, Suite N, Carlsbad, CA 92008.

Phyllis Bashore, 85

RAMONA - Phyllis D. Bashore, 85, died Thursday, April 25, 2000, in Ramona.

Born May 31, 1914, in Iowa, she lived in Ramona since the 1960s. She was the dining room coordinator at the Ramona Seniro Center for 15 years before retiring.

Mrs. Bashore was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, George M. Bahsore, in October 1988; and her son, Richard Bashore. She is survived by her son, Roger Bashore of Washington; brother James Good of Dallas Center, Iowa; sister Betty Lloyd of Escondido; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

No service will be held. Inurnment will take place at Nuevo Memory Gardens in Ramona.

The family suggests memorial donations to the Ramona Senior Center, PO Box 657, Ramona, CA 92065.

Robert La Porte, 69

VISTA - Robert Anthony La Porte, 69, died Monday, April 24, 2000, in Vista.

Born Feb. 3, 1931, in Tacoma, Wash., he lived in Vista for two years. He was a maitre d' for the Princess Louise Cruise Line, retiring in 1995 and was a California certified nurseryman and a Flying Samaritan of the Red Cross.

Mr. La Porte is survived by his stepmother, Blanche La Porte of Tacoma; brothers Joseph La Porte of Tacoma and Donald La Porte of Seattle; stepbrothers Laurence La Porte and Pierre La Porte, both of Seattle, and Dennis La Porte and Timothy La Porte, both of Tacoma; stepsisters Mary La Porte of San Luis Obispo and Mary Ann La Porte of Tacoma.

A private family memorial service will be held in Tacoma.

Gloria Martinez, 60

ESCONDIDO - Gloria Martinez, 60, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, in Escondido.

Born June 17, 1939, in Los Angeles, she lived in Escondido for one years. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Martinez was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Trujillo. She is survived by her daughters Ann Trujillo of Englewood, Colo., Jo-Ann Borbun of Newhall, Rosemary Parham of Escondido, Shara Rodriguez of Northridge and Kathy Trujillo of Sunland; brothers Joe Gasca of Visalia and Jess Rosales of Webster, Ill.; and grandchildren Codie Parham, Christopher Ojeda, Jason Hurst, Michael Trujillo, Kabrina Borbun and Kenny Borbun.

A private family service and cremation are planned.

Joseph Soltis, 87

LAKE SAN MARCOS - Joseph F. Soltis, 87, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at Lake San Marcos.

Born Jan. 7, 1913, in Yonkers, N.Y., he lived at Lake San Marcos for 20 years. He was the owner/operator of Joseph Soltis Liquors for 18 years and served as a technician in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945.

Mr. Soltis is survived by his wife of 54 years, Catherine Soltis of Lake San Marcos; son Brian Soltis of Cardiff; daughter Deborah Howard of Marina Del Rey; and brother Andrew Soltis of Hauppauge, N.Y.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, May 1, at St. Mark's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Burt Boudoin officiating. A private entombment will take place at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Ronald Lanier, 62

WILDOMAR - Ronald Lanier, 62, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, of congestive heart failure, at his home.

Born April 12, 1938, in Los Angeles, he lived in Wildomar for 29 years. He worked for R & L Concrete for 39 years and served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1954.

Mr. Lanier is survived by his wife, Jeanette Lanier of Wildomar; sons Mike Lanier of Hemet and Rod Lanier of Lake Elsinore; daughter Renee Allison of Wildomar; and brother John McInerny of Phelan.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 1, at Valley Funeral Home.

Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at Riverside National Cemetery, Staging Area 1.

Sue Barnes, 63

LAKE ELSINORE - Sue Barnes, 63, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at Parkview Hospital.

Born Sept. 3, 1936, in Coffeyville, Kan., she lived in Lake Elsinore for 30 years. She was a real estate broker in Lake Elsinore for 25 years.

Mrs. Barnes is survived by her father, Arnett Roberts of Midwest City, Okla.; daughters Julie Simpson of Las Vegas and D'Anne Vandenburgh of Canyon Lake; brother Adrian Roberts of Atlanta; and three granddaughters.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, April 25, at Thornton Winery in Temecula.

Vito Spalliero, 84

WILDOMAR - Vito Spalliero, 84, died Sunday, April 23, 2000, of pancreatitis and cardiopulmonary arrest at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Riverside.

Born Sept. 27, 1915, in Chicago, he lived in Wildomar for 17 years. He was an automotive mechanic for Sears for 25 years.

Mr. Spalliero is survived by his wife, Theresa Spalliero of Wildomar; son David Spalliero of Moreno Valley; daughters Barbara March of Huntington Beach, Patricia Trydahl of Hemet and Dominica Lindaman of Hemet; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Thursday, April 27, at Valley Funeral Home. Burial followed at Wildomar Cemetery.

Denise Miller, 20

TEMECULA - Denise A. Miller, 20, died Monday, April 24, 2000, from injuries sustained in a car accident on Highway 76 in Vista.

Born Sept. 25, 1979, in San Diego, she lived in Temecula for five years. She was a 1997 graduate of Temecula Valley High School and attended San Jacinto College. She was an assembly worker for Guidant Corp. for two years.

Denise is survived by her boyfriend, James Ahumada of El Paso, Texas; mother and stepfather Charles and Silvia Gray of Temecula; father Edwin Miller of Cleveland, Tenn.; brothers Charles Gray Jr. and Samuel Gray, both of Temecula; and grandparents Esperanza Castaneda of Chula Vista and Alvin and Delores Miller of Cleveland.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today, April 28, at Stout Family Funeral Service, and at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 29, at New Covenant Fellowship Church in Temecula. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, April 29, at New Covenant Fellowship Church. Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Temecula Cemetery.

Shirley Cooper, 64

ESCONDIDO - Shirley Maureen Cooper, 64, died Monday, April 24, 2000, in Escondido.

Born May 28, 1935, in Escondido, she lived in Escondido for 64 years. She was an employment supervisor before retiring in 1998.

Ms. Cooper is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Maureen and Tim Horner of Grass Valley; sister Joan Myerson of Escondido; nephew Robert Myerson of San Diego; nieces Andrea Myerson-Gilley of Ramona and Marcia Trussell of Los Angeles; and three grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 28, at Oak Hill Memorial Park, with the Rev. Richard Huls officiating.

Billie McFaul, 82
OCEANSIDE - Billie M. McFaul, 82, died Monday, April 24, 2000, at Sunbridge Care Convalescent.

Born April 10, 1918, in Bisbe, Ariz., she lived in Oceanside for 54 years. She was a homemaker for 28 years.

Mrs. McFaul is survived by her husband of 28 years, Arthur McFaul of Oceanside; son David Palmer of Vista; daughter Jill Burgasser of San Marcos, Texas; sister Nancy Rossier of Newhall; grandchildren Jamie and Jennifer Burgasser; and great-grandchild Britney Burgasser.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park, with the Rev. David Plank officiating.

Patrick Conlin, 57

CARLSBAD - Patrick Kevin Conlin, 57, died Monday, April 24, 2000, at Tri-City Medical Center.

Born March 5, 1943, in Monterey Park, he lived in Carlsbad for 23 years. He was the owner of Conlin & Sons Sportsfishing and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Bounty Hunter Association.

Mr. Conlin was preceded in death by his father, Gerald J. Conlin. He is survived by his mother, Margaret Grace Conlin of Carlsbad; sons and daughters-in-law James and Sonia Conlin of Vicenza, Italy, and Kevin and Lisa Conlin of Carlsbad; sisters and brother-in-law Kathy O'Keefe of Sacramento and Mary and Gary Underwood of Temecula; and grandchildren Michael and Daniel Conlin and Troy and Amber Conlin.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday, May 1, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Carlsbad.

Harold Curci, 77

OCEANSIDE - Harold Victor Curci, 77, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, in Oceanside.

Born May 10, 1922, in Los Angeles, he lived in Oceanside for 15 years. He was an aerospace engineer and served in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Curci is survived by his wife of 35 years, Frances Curci of San Marcos; mother Henrietta Curci of Escondido; sons Mark Curci of Escondido and Bruce Curci of Laguna Niguel; stepson O'Brien Fraser of Cottonwood, Ariz.; daughters Babette Allcock of Mission Viejo and Camille King of Camarillo; stepdaughter Kathy Herrington of Burney; brothers Raymond Curci of Fullerton and Shurl Curci of Palos Verdes; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary. A graveside service will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
