Ruth Sanders, 69
OCEANSIDE - Ruth E. Sanders, 69, died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at Tri-City Medical Center.
Born March 9, 1931, in Vermont, she lived in Oceanside for 28 years. She was an executive secretary for American Savings.
Mrs. Sanders was preceded in death by her son, Steven Stone, in 1976. She is survived by her husband of 25 years, George Sanders of Oceanside; stepsons George Sanders III of Arkansas and John "Mike" Sanders of Vista; daughter Kimberly Sanders of Texas; brother Charles Buckley of San Marcos; sisters Jeri Wheelock of Vista and Norma Wilson of Hemet; and many nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 27, at Eternal Hills Mortuary Chapel. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, April 28, at Eternal Hills Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. John Dolan officiating. Burial will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Nellie Cole, 93
RAMONA - Nellie Coleman Coon Cole, 93, died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at a local convalescent hospital.
Born July 30, 1906, in Tooele, Utah, she lived in Ramona for six years. She was a nurse for 75 years and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ramona Second Ward.
Mrs. Cole is survived by her son, Ralph Verl Coon of Chatsworth; daughters Betty L. Richardson and Alice Faye Backus, both of Ramona; brother Ralph Stevens of Washington; 15 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today, April 26, at Bonham Bros. & Lee Ramona Chapel. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, April 27, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ramona. A committal service and entombment will follow at 1 p.m. at Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Bonita.

OCEANSIDE - Albert Warren Kirkpatrick, 79, died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at his home.
Born Jan. 13, 1921, in Utah, he lived in Oceanside for 22 years. He was a self-employed real estate appraiser and served in the U.S. Air Force.
Mr. Kirkpatrick is survived by his wife of 34 years, Dorothy Kirkpatrick of Oceanside; daughter Carol Quillen of San Leandro; stepdaughters Tracee Corbell of Pleasanton and Barbara Winge of Reno, Nev.; and grandchildren Tommy Winge of San Jose and Lisa Pascual of Reno.
No service will be held at the request of the deceased.

CARLSBAD - Margaret H. Smith, 51, died Friday, April 21, 2000.
Born Jan. 17, 1949, in Chadderton Fold, Oldham, Manchester, England, she lived in Carlsbad. She was a home health aide in San Diego.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her mother, Olive Boardman, on March 9, 1999. She is survived by her husband, Alan Smith; father James Boardman of Blackpool, England; brothers Ashley Boardman, her twin, of Blackpool, England, and John Boardman of London; sisters Olwen Kempson of Winnipeg, Canada, Olivia Gelder and Susan Power, both of Oldham, England, Rosemary Gilson of Poulton-Le-Fylde, England.

Edwin Thompson, 93
LAKE SAN MARCOS - Edwin Turner Thompson, 93, died Sunday, April 16, 2000, of cancer.
Born Feb. 17, 1907, in Fall Rivers, Mass., he lived at Lake San Marcos for 35 years. He was a 1928 graduate of Yale, earning a master's degree from the Harvard Business School. He was in advertising sales with Women's Wear Daily for Fairchild Publications and with Fortune Magazine for Time Inc. He started his own publisher's representative firm in Los Angeles in 1947, selling in 1965.
Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Thompson, in 1985. He is survived by his son, Tony Thompson of Little Compton, R.I.; daughter Nancy Barker of Orinda; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A family memorial service was held.
Phyllis Dubs, 81
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO - Phyllis Elizabeth Dubs, 81, died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at her home.
Born Jan. 6, 1919, in Ohio, she lived in San Juan Capistrano for one year. She was a secretary for Dr. Dudley Rickie.
Mrs. Dubs was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Martin Dubs, in January 1993. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Susan Hickok of Dana Point; sister Gloria Bruce of Vista; and niece Teresa Hickok of Bonita.
No service will be held at the request of the deceased. A private inurnment will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, May 3, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.

Gordon Cooke, 63
POWAY - Gordon Ronald Cooke, 63, died Sunday, April 23, 2000.
Born June 17, 1936, in Buffalo, N.Y., he lived in San Diego County for 40 years and in Poway for 22 years. He was a civilian employee of the U.S. Navy for 25 years before retiring, working as a facilities manager at Point Loma Submarine base and spent four years with Scripps Institute of Oceanography. He was a member of North County Corvette Club, the RB Anglers and the Poway Volunteer Sheriff Patrol.
Mr. Cooke was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary T. Cooke. He is survived by his wife, Judith L. Cooke of Poway; sons Ronald G. Cooke of Escondido and Jeffrey D. Cooke of San Diego; daughter Laura E. Cooke of Moses Lake, Wash.; and sister Barbara Sklar of Las Vegas.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at Pomerado Christian Church in Poway. A private family burial will take place on Friday, April 28, at Dearborn Cemetery.

ESCONDIDO - Dorothea J. Thoms, 89, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000.
Born Aug. 19, 1910, in Stade, Germany, she lived in Escondido for five years. She was the owner of a bakery for 35 years.
Mrs. Thoms is survived by her son Guenther Richters of Germany; daughter Ingeborg A. "Inge" Capitanio of San Diego; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

OCEANSIDE - Dorothy Lee Tolles, 82, died Friday, April 21, 2000.
Born Jan. 14, 1918, in Taft, she lived in Oceanside for 20 years. She worked for Hughes Aircraft in Carlsbad, retiring after 15 years.
Mrs. Tolles was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Willard Tolles. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Ernest and Pam Tolles, Gary and Marina Tolles and Robert and Martha Tolles; sister Audrey Luperena; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one nephew; two nieces; and many friends.
Visitation was held Monday, April 24, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. A graveside service and burial took place Tuesday, April 25, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Born April 2, 1925, in Clay Center, Kan., she lived in Escondido for 20 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Miller is survived by her husband of 32 years, William D. Miller of Escondido; brothers Ken Walker of Glendale and Don Walker of Riverside; and sister JoAnn Martin of Long Beach.

Born April 24, 1915, in Colraine, Minn., she lived in Escondido for 35 years. She was a secretary for the Lennox School District and a member of the Community Reformed Church of Escondido.
Mrs. Krider is survived by her husband, Jack D. Krider Jr. of Escondido; son John Ward of Poway; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at Community Reformed Church of Escondido, with the Rev. Richard Huls officiating. A private cremation is planned with cremains to be scattered at sea.

ENCINITAS - Richard Henry "Sonny" Stanton Jr., 72, died Sunday, April 23, 2000.
Born July 16, 1927, in Yuma, Ariz., he lived in Encinitas for 35 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Stanton was preceded in death by his father, Richard Henry "Whitey" Stanton of Yuma; and his mother, Edna Stovall Stanton of Yuma. He is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Ed and Blanche Stanton, Ron and Gloria Stanton, Dick and Marsha Stanton; sister and brother-in-law, LaVerne Stanton and Sid Shaw; many nephews including Nick, Robert, Charles, Richard, Glenn, Andrew, Nathan, Mathew and Richard Stanton; and many nieces including Robin Tworek Hungerford, Cyd Shaw and Vickie Shaw.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 1, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Encinitas. A private interment will be held at a later date.
Irene Tye, 69
LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. - Irene Mary Tye, 69, died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at Vivian's Adult Care Home in Lake Havasu City.
Born Feb. 4, 1931, in Knoxville, Ind., she lived in Lake Havasu City. She was a member of Oblate of St. Charles Priory and the Catholic Church. She worked at May Company Carlsbad and was a retail manager and buyer for Marine Corps Exchange in Camp Pendleton for 25 years.
Mrs. Tye is survived by her sons, Charles M. Tye of Stafford, Va., John J. Tye of Fallbrook, Michael T. Tye of Lake Havasu City, Patrick C. Tye of Bothell, Wash, and Lawrence Tye of Vista; daughters Kathleen A. Lego of Englewood, Colo., and Margaret M. DeMarco of San Marcos; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 28, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, April 28, also at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Carlsbad. A reception will follow.

Benjamin Swartz, 96
VISTA - Benjamin Kinsell Swartz, 96, died Saturday, April 22, 2000, at Rancho Vista Retirement Community in Vista.
Born Sept. 23, 1903, in East Cleveland, Ohio, he lived in Vista and Fallbrook since 1975. He attended Phillips Andover Academy in Massachusetts, received a bachelor's degree from UC Berkeley, a master's degree in psychology from the University of Oregon in 1930, and an honorary degree, doctorate of law from Whittier College in 1960. He was a psychology instructor and dean of admissions and records at Los Angeles City College and president of East Los Angeles City College.
Mr. Swartz was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Pearce Swartz, in 1974. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Dorothy Sacks Swartz of Vista; son Benjamin Kinsell Swartz Jr. of Muncie, Ind.; and grandsons Benjamin Kinsell Swartz III and Frank C. Swartz.

Born July 23, 1908, in Albuquerque, N.M., she lived in Escondido for 58 years. She was a homemaker for 70 years and a member of the Escondido Spanish Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Mrs. Gonzalez was preceded in death by her husband, John Gonzalez, in 1977; and her daughter, Divi Santillian, in 1999. She is survived by her sons, Pasqual Vargas of Culver City and Peter Vargas and John Vargas, both of Escondido; daughter Lucy Anderson of Missouri; sisters Juanita Sanchez and Victoria Sanchez, both of Safford, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
