Raquel Rios, 38

CARLSBAD - Raquel Rios, 38, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at San Diego Hospice.

Born Jan. 3, 1962, in Mexico, she lived in Carlsbad for 2 1/2 years.

Mrs. Rios is survived by her husband, Gonzalo Rios of Carlsbad; father Pedro Gonzales of Jalisco, Mexico; sons Fernando Rios Gonzales and Ricardo Rios Gonzales, both of Carlsbad; daughter Brenda Rios Gonzales of Carlsbad; brothers Armando Gonzales Mata, Alfredo Gonzales Mata, Juan Gonzales Mata, Luis Gonzales Martin and Mauro Gonzales Mata, all of Riverside, and Javier Gonzales Mata of San Fernando Valley; and sisters Rosa Gonzales Mata and Teresa Gonzales Mata, both of Jalisco, Mexico, Socorro Gonzales Mata of South Carolina and Martha Gonzales Mata of Carlsbad.

Visitation and viewing will be held from 6 to 10 p.m., with a rosary recited from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at Eternal Hills Chapel. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Lee Fisher, 87

OCEANSIDE - Lee Clark Fisher, 87, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at Sunbridge Convalescent.

Born Dec. 17, 1912, in California, he lived in Oceanside for 25 years. He worked for Rourke Buick before retiring.

Mr. Fisher is survived by his wife of 62 years, Thelma Fisher of Oceanside; son Jim Fisher of Yorba Linda; daughter Claudia Fisher of Oceanside; and grandchildren David and Gary Fisher of Yorba Linda.

Inurnment will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Jose Sanchez, 57

OCEANSIDE - Jose Reyes Sanchez, 57, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, of heart failure, at Tri-City Medical Center.

Born Oct. 19, 1942, in Oceanside, he lived in Oceanside for 57 years. He was a custodian for the Carlsbad Unified School District and a member of St. Mary's Star of the Sea Church and of the Legion of Mary. He was also a musician, entertaining at La Mision in Oceanside and the Comstock in Escondido.

Mr. Sanchez is survived by his mother and father, Candelaria Reyes Sanchez and Luis M. Sanchez of Oceanside; sons Joseph A. Sanchez of Springfield, Va., Reginald D. Sanchez of Julian and Michael S. Sanchez of Fort Campbell, Ky.; daughters Kimberly R. Sanchez of Oceanside and Ramona C. Sanchez Crichlow of Ramona; brothers Tony Sanchez, Raymond Sanchez, Louis Sanchez, Ted Sanchez, Henry Sanchez and Uraldo Sanchez; sister Emma Tellez; and nine grandchildren.

Visitation and viewing will be held and a rosary recited from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Church, with the Rev. John Dolan officiating. A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. following visitation, with the Rev. John Dolan officiating. Burial will take place at Eternal Hills Memorial Park after the Mass.

The family suggests memorial donations to St. Mary's Star of the Sea Church, 609 Pier View Way, Oceanside, CA 92054.

El Cajon Mortuary is handling arrangements.

Judith Anderson, 58

RAMONA - Judith G. "Judy" Anderson, 58, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at an Escondido convalescent hospital.

Born Dec. 12, 1941, in Brea, she lived in Ramona since 1988. She was a bookkeeper for Bank of America in Brea before moving to Ramona.

Mrs. Anderson is survived by her friends, K.C. and Etta Wood of Ramona.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, at Bonham Bros. & Lee Ramona Chapel. A graveside service will follow at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, at Ramona Nuevo Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Pete Mayfield officiating.

Eugenia Mason, 59

ESCONDIDO - Eugenia Catherine Mason, 59, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at Palomar Medical Center.

Born May 17, 1940, in Stamford, Conn., she lived in Escondido for 10 years. She worked for Goldwin Golf in Carlsbad, retiring in 1999. She taught computer skills to seniors at the Joslyn Center in Escondido.

Mrs. Mason is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Joel Mason of Escondido, Arthur and Kathy Mason of Costa Mesa and Michael and Tara Mason of Escondido.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Interment will follow.

California Funeral Alternatives is handling arrangements.

Beverly Lachapelle, 67

SAN CLEMENTE - Beverly Lachapelle, 67, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, in San Diego.

Born Dec. 8, 1932, in Fresno, she lived in San Clemente for three years.

Mrs. Lachapelle is survived by her husband of four years, Kenneth Lachapelle of San Clemente; sons Kenneth D. Holehouse of Idaho and Karl Holehouse of Anaheim; daughters Kathy Hopkins of Oceanside and Karen Williams of Corona; and 14 grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. Burial will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Mimi Stubbs

ENCINITAS - Mimi Stubbs died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, in Encinitas.

Born in New York, she lived in Encinitas for 30 years. She was a teacher before retiring.

Mrs. Stubbs is survived by her sons, Fredrick W. Ramsey of Cleveland and Jonathon Ramsey of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; sister Lois Mullen of Washington, D.C.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Roy W. McLain, 72

Captain Roy W. McLain, U.S. Navy, Ret., 72, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at Pomerado Hospital.

Born December 10, 1927, in Shenendoah, Iowa, he lived in Rancho Bernardo. He was a 1945 graduate of a Davenport, Iowa, high school. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Navy V-5 program. He attended Swarthmore College and Iowa State University and was appointed aviation midshipman. He was designated a naval aviator in October 1948 and was assigned to Attach Squadron 55 where he was commissioned ensign. He retired as captain of USS Dubuque LPD8 in May 1975. He served sea duty tours with VF-25, VAH-7, RAH-13 and as ship's company aboard USS Antietam and USS Kitty Hawk. He earned a bachelor's degree from Stanford University and a master's degree in business administration from George Washington University. He reported to a tour in Washington, D.C., where he attended the Industrial College of the Armed Forces and served in the office of the Secretary of Defense. He was given the Legion of Merit, two Distinguished Flying Crosses, two Bronze Stars with Combat "V", eleven Air Medals, two Navy Commendation Medals with Combat "V" and the Vietnamese Naval Distinguished Service Order.

Mr. McLain is survived by his wife of 48 years, June D. Polson McLain; sons and daughters-in-law Roy W. "Bill" McLain III and Michelle McLain and Robert P. "Bob" and Kathleen McLain; daughter Susan J. McLain; brother and sister-in-law Paul D. and Marna McLain of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and grandchildren Chandler and Kenton of San Marcos.

A private family memorial service was held, with the Rev. Donald P. Buteyn of the Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church officiating.

The family suggests memorial donations to the Rancho Bernardo Community Church Building Fund, 17010 Pomerado Road, San Diego, CA 92128.

Catherine Armstrong, 77

SUN CITY - Catherine Marie Armstrong, 77, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at her home in Sun City.

Born April 1, 1922, in Kansas City, Kan., she lived in Sun City for five years. She was a cashier for Akron in Anaheim for 10 years and was a member of St. Vincent Ferrar Catholic Church.

Mrs. Armstrong was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Armstrong, in 1964. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Joanne Armstrong of Sun City; daughter Therese Biggs of Tempe, Ariz.; brothers Gene Draskovich of Arlington, Va., and Jim Draskovich of Pittsburgh, Kan.; sister Helen Howe of Endwell, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7 p.m., today, Jan. 26, at Miller-Jones Mortuary & Crematory. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church. Burial will take place at Queen of Heaven in Rowland.

Harry Friedman, 80

MURRIETA - Harry Friedman, 80, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at Beverley Healthcare of Murrieta.

Born May 25, 1919, in New York, he lived in Murrieta for 10 years. He worked for Regency Co. for 30 years and served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945, receiving a Purple Heart. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association.

Mr. Friedman is survived by his wife of 30 years, Zelda Friedman of Murrieta; sons Don Friedman of West Palm Beach Garden, Fla., and Phillip Umann of Medford, Ore.; daughters Jeannie Torbert and Lynn Mercer, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; sister Anita Goodman of New York City; and five grandchildren.

A memorial tribute was held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, at the Colony Club House in Murrieta. A private inurnment is planned at Riverside National Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial donations to Hospice of the Valley, P.O. Box 686, Sun City, CA 92586.

George Mitchell, 68

VISTA - George W. Mitchell, 68, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, in Vista.

Born June 22, 1931, in Clarkson, Texas, he lived in Vista for 30 years. He retired from the U.S. Marine Corps after serving in Korea and Vietnam and worked for the North County Transit District for 17 years. He was a member of the Chosin Few.

Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Mitchell of Vista; sons and daughters-in-law Timothy S. Mitchell of Escondido, David W. and Suzanne Mitchell of Carlsbad and R. John and Julie Mitchell of Mission Viejo; daughters and sons-in-law M. Dianne and Ramie T. LaBelle of Oceanside and Linda S. and Mathew Souza of Tigard, Ore.; and seven grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, at Eternal Hills Mortuary, with Chaplain David Plank officiating. A private inurnment will take place at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

The family suggests memorial donations to Tri-City Hospice, 2095 W. Vista Way, Suite 101, Vista, CA 92083.

Orlena Walchel, 90

ESCONDIDO - Orlena Graves "Aunt Dee" Walchel, 90, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, in Escondido.

Born Nov. 21, 1909, in Milton, Okla., she lived in Escondido for 60 years. She was the owner of Knotty Pine Cafe in Escondido from 1939 to 1982.

Mrs. Walchel is survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Golda and Homer Gandy of Escondido and Betty and Manuel Noya of Bakersfield; five nephews; and two nieces.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Mary Kennedy, 92
FALLBROOK - Mary Francis Kennedy, 92, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, in Fallbrook.

Born Aug. 24, 1907, in Newark, N.J., she lived in Fallbrook for 38 years. She was a bookkeeper for St. Marks Catholic Church for five years.

Mrs. Kennedy was preceded in death by her husband, John William Kennedy, in 1962. She is survived by her son, John B. Kennedy of Escondido; daughters Kathleen M. Alcoba of Lake Henshaw and Barbara E. McKiernan of Fallbrook; brothers Bernard McCabe of Escondido and Thomas McCabe of Hyannis Port, Mass.; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Mel Young officiating. Interment follow at 1 p.m. at Holy Cross cemetery in San Diego.

The family suggests memorial donations to Elizabeth Hospice, 150 W. Crest, Escondido, CA 92025.
