Jacquelyn Brewbaker, 71

ESCONDIDO - Jacquelyn Edna Brewbaker, 71, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, in Poway.

Born May 8, 1928, in Elgin, Ill., she lived in Escondido for 28 years. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and one of the original bus drivers for the North County Transit District.

Mrs. Brewbaker is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert Brewbaker of Escondido; sons Scott Brewbaker of Moreno Valley and R. Mark Brewbaker of Covina; daughters Barbara Schioppi of Escondido and Lori Kauffman of San Clemente; brother Robert Markee of Wisconsin; sister Sally Carpenter of Wisconsin; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, at McLeod Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. Michael Eckelkamp officiating. A private inurnment is planned.

The family suggests memorial donations to the American Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 4901 Morena Blvd., Suite 104, San Diego, CA 92117.

Gene Kelly, 82

SAN MARCOS - Eugene Kelly, 82, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000.

Born Jan. 24, 1917, in Morristown, N.J., he lived in San Marcos for more than six years. He did maintenance work for Coto de Caza, a private ranch in Orange County, before retiring, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Kelly is survived by his wife of 33 years, Lillian Kelly of San Marcos; stepson Larry Kline of Wheatland; stepdaughter Janice Fisher of Yarmouth, Mass.; grandchildren Gary Kline of Bakersfield, Cindy Neff of Green Forest, Ark., and Bobby Boyd of Yarmouth; and great-grandchildren Christa Kline of Bakersfield and Shane and Mattea of Green Forest.

Charles Truesdell, 71
VISTA - Charles Lewis Truesdell, 71, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at Palomar Medical Center.

Born Feb. 4, 1928, in Riverside, he lived in Vista for 25 years. He served in the U.S. Navy as a seaman during World War II and retired as lieutenant commander. He was a 1945 graduate of Poly High School in Riverside. He worked in the computer industry and formed his own computer company, Truesdell International. He was a founder and inventor for Summatec Corporation of Vista.

Mr. Truesdell is survived by his wife of 42 years, Margaret Truesdell of Vista; son Mark Truesdell of Vista; daughters Karen Truesdell of Wheat Ridge, Colo., and Carol Holmes of Temecula; brother Robert Truesdell of Riverside; sisters Charleen Duggan of Graham, Wash., and Beverley Fortune of Riverside; and grandchild Meghan Holmes of Temecula.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at Faith Lutheran Church in Vista.

The family suggests memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Association, 8514 Commerce Ave., San Diego, CA 92121.

Harry Friedman, 80

MURRIETA - Harry Friedman, 80, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at Beverley Healthcare of Murrieta.

Born May 25, 1919, in New York, he lived in Murrieta for 10 years. He worked for Regency Co. for 30 years and served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945, receiving a Purple Heart. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association.

Mr. Friedman is survived by his wife of 30 years, Zelda Friedman of Murrieta; sons Don Friedman of West Palm Beach Garden, Fla., and Phillip Umann of Medford, Ore.; daughters Jeannie Torbert and Anita Goodman, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; sister Anita Goodman of New York City; and five grandchildren.

A memorial tribute will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, at the Colony Club House in Murrieta. A private inurnment is planned at Riverside National Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial donations to Hospice of the Valley, PO Box 686, Sun City, CA 92586.

F. Scott Starting, 75
VALLEY CENTER - F. Scott Starting, 75, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at Palomar Medical Center.

Born May 23, 1924, in Ukiah, he lived in Valley Center for 14 years. He was the owner of Starting Realty and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Kiwanis in Valley Center, the Church of Religious Science, the National Rifle Association and a broker with the state of California, Department of Real Estate.

Mr. Starting was preceded in death by his wife, Muriel I. Starting, in March 1967; and his sister, Jessie Baker, in June 1999. He is survived by his sons, Kyle Scott Starting of Escondido, Scott Rex Starting of Simi Valley, Joseph Jamek Starting of Valley Center, Justin William Starting of Santa Barbara and John Paul Starting of Rancho Santa Fe; daughters Sharon L. Anderson of Whittier and Ellen Nora Barnes of Encinitas; grandchildren Robert, Jenne', Leslie, Scott, Carlie, Collin and Nichole; and great-grandchildren Jonathan, Joel, Kenneth and Robert V.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at the Church of Religious Science in Escondido, with the Rev. Carl Atkinson officiating.

The family suggests memorial donations to the Kiwanis of Valley Center, c/o San Diego Kiwanis, P.O Box 173 Valley Center, CA 92082; the National Rifle Association, 11250 Waples Mill Road, Fairfax, VA 22030; or the Church of Religious Science, 2065 S. Escondido Blvd., Escondido, CA 92025.

George Curtiss, 93

ESCONDIDO - George Rutherford Curtiss, 93, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, in Escondido.

Born Dec. 15, 1906, in St. Joseph, Mo., he lived in Escondido for 10 years. He was an accountant/auditor for the U.S. government.

Mr. Curtiss is survived by his wife of 73 years, Bernice L. Curtiss of Escondido; daughter Marcia L. Moreland of Apple Valley; grandchildren Marc D. Moreland and Tod C. Moreland; and great-grandchildren Janet, Joshua, Christian, Milly and Christopher.

Janet Branham, 71

OCEANSIDE - Janet Ann Skinner Branham, 71, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at Tri-City Medical Center.

Born June 13, 1928, in Minneapolis, she lived in Oceanside for five years.

Mrs. Branham is survived by her husband of 51 years, Dick Branham; daughters and sons-in-law Connie Steinback of Santa Rosa, Bobbi and Bruce Hamlyn of Alameda, Lynn and Brad Olander of Piedmont, Tracy and Ben Garner of Galt and Leslie and Todd Bowers of Chino Hills; brother-in-law C. Hunter Branham of Bellevue, Wash.; 19 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A private celebration of her life by her immediate family is planned.

Herald Lowe, 84

VALLEY CENTER - Herald Watson Lowe, 84, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at Palomar Medical Center.

Born Feb. 17, 1915, in Hubbell, Neb., he lived in Valley Center for 31 years. He worked for the Pearl Harbor Shipyard in Honolulu and served in the U.S. Navy as a seaman 1st class.

Mr. Lowe is survived by his wife of 30 years, Emma Jean Lowe of Valley Center; stepsons William Wayne Wierson of Valley Center and Glen Allen Wierson of Riverside, Frederick Earl Wierson Fallbrook and Ronald Lee Wierson of San Miguel; daughters Deana Hatcher of Virginia Beach, Va., Myrna Ramsey of Honolulu and Andrea Jones of Leawood, Kan.; stepdaughter Sylvia Dawn Wierson of Escondido; sisters Wilma mason of Boise, Idaho and Marilyn Fagan of Las Vegas; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at Valley Center Community Church.

Neil Ferry, 42

OCEANSIDE - Neil W. Ferry, 42, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at his home.

Born July 17, 1957, in Jamaica, Long Island, New York, he lived in Oceanside for 38 years. He was a public works caretaker for the city of San Marcos for 13 years.

Mr. Ferry is survived by his wife, Gail Marie Ferry of Oceanside; son Bryan Ferry of Oceanside; sister Barbara Leidle of San Marcos; nephew Matthew; and niece Heather.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, at Allen Brothers Mortuary, Vista Chapel, with the Rev. Ted Johnson of North County Hospice officiating. A private scattering of cremains is planned.

Marie Putty, 84

ESCONDIDO - Marie Estelle Putty, 84, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, in Escondido.

Born April 6, 1915, in Bivens, Texas, she lived in Escondido for 13 years. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Putty is survived by her husband, Charlie Putty of Escondido; son Charlie Thomas of W. Lafayette, Ind.; daughters Theresa Bond of San Marcos and Phyllis Presley of Sumner, Ga.; brother Herman Hansford of Doyline, La.; sisters Winnie Garrett of Philadelphia, Louise Bittle of Laguna Hills and Gertrude Langston of Texarkana, Ark.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary Chapel. A private burial will take place at San Marcos Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial donations to the American Diabetes Association, 225 Broadway, Suite 310, San Diego, CA 92101.

Thomas Hall, 75

RAMONA - Thomas L. Hall, 75, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at a San Diego hospital.

Born Jan. 18, 1925, in Magee, Miss., he lived in Ramona. He served as a shipfitter 1st class in the U.S. Navy during World War II, receiving the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal. He was a sheet metal worker for San Diego Sheet Metal and was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union. He taught sheet metal apprenticeship through San Diego Community College for many years. He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks, Lodge 1812 of El Cajon.

Mr. Hall is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Randy Shaw of Ramona; brother Leonard Hall of Picayune, Miss.; sister Catherine Ainsworth of McGee, Miss.; and his former wife, Birdie Hall of Rancho Bernardo.

Viewing will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at Bonham Bros. & Lee Ramona Chapel. A graveside service will follow at noon at Ramona Nuevo Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Pete Mayfield officiating.

The family suggests memorial donations to San Diego State Adult Fitness Program, 5500 Campanile Drive, San Diego, CA 92182.

Doris Gravell, 87

ENCINITAS - Doris E. Gravell, 87, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, in Encinitas.

Born April 30, 1912, in Orossi, she lived in Encinitas for 33 years.

Mrs. Gravell was preceded in death by her husband, William Gravell, in 1984; and her daughter, Judith Hurley-Chavez, in 1999. She is survived by her son, William Gravell of Littleton, Colo.; grandchildren Pamela, Laura, Denise, Shannon; and great-grandchildren Patrick and Robert Tryon, Nicole and Amber Acosta and Casey and Janine Romeo.

Charles Beal, 68

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Charles E. Beal, 68, died Friday, Dec. 22, 1999.

Born Sept. 29, 1931, in Bernalillo, N.M., he lived in Bonanza, Ore., and Klamath Falls, Ore. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean and Vietnam wars and received a Purple Heart. He was a millwright at Columbia Plywood Corp. for 18 years and was a member of the Marine Corps League and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Beal is survived by his sons, Dane Beal of Oceanside, Dwayne Beal of Temple, Texas, Mike Beal of Klamath Falls, Curtis Beal of Marble Falls, Texas, and Douglas Beal of Gardendale, Texas; daughters Angelica Kennedy of Klamath Falls, Teresa Russelburg of Morganfield, Ky., and Darla Gonzales of Oceanside; brothers Frank Beal of Rosemead and Andy Beal of Las Vegas; sisters Laura De Smet of Albuquerque, Ethel Attaway of Higley, Ariz., and Susan Grantland of Bosque Farms, N.M.; 15 grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Bernard J. Gallagher, 79

OCEANSIDE - Bernard J. Gallagher, 79, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at Tri-City Hospital.

Born Feb. 11, 1920, in Freeland, Pa., he was a resident of Oceanside for 21 years. He was retired from Real Estate.

Mr. Gallagher is survived by his wife of 55 years, Therese R. Gallagher, of Oceanside and his sister Marguerite Brock of Vero Beach, Fla.

Visitation is scheduled at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, at St. Francis Catholic Church. A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, at St. Francis Catholic Church. Entombment will follow the Mass at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Eternal Hills Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.

Clyde Theodore Whynaught, 65

OCEANSIDE - Clyde Theodore Whynaught, 65, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000.

Born Jan. 5, 1935 in Hingham, Mass., he was a resident of Vista for 25 years. He was a retired T - Sgt. in the U.S. Air Force and served in both Vietnam and Korea.

Mr. Whynaught is survived by his wife, Freda Whynaught, of Vista; mother Dorothy Whynaught, of Vista; sons Todd Whynaught of Carson and Stephen Whynaught of Vista; daughters Donna Garcia of Vista and Karen Boone of Keizer, Ore.; brothers Clifford Whynaught of Oceanside and David Whynaught of Vista; sister Elizabeth Riggs of Redding and grandson Christopher Fracasse of Vista.

Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26 at Allen Brothers Mortuary Vista Chapel. Graveside service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park with the Rev. Chris Kolhbry of Discovery Community Church officiating. Burial will follow services at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Dixie Lorraine Cucina, 65

OCEANSIDE - Dixie Lorraine Cucina, 65, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at her residence of natural causes.

Born Feb. 7, 1934, in Syracuse, N.Y., she was a resident of Oceanside for 20 years. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Cucina is survived by her husband of 20 years, Thomas D. Cucina of Oceanside; son Thomas H. Cucina of Dallas; daughters Peggy Miklaus of Mission Viejo, Barbara Cucina of Vista, Patty Mitchell of Temecula and Lisa Catalano of Huntington Beach; brother Howard Swaites of New Mexico; sister Alice Byington of Las Vegas; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

A memorial was held Saturday, Jan. 15 at North County Cremation Service Chapel with the Rev. Plank officiating.
