Aurora Lugo

VISTA - Aurora Sarah Lugo died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, in Oceanside.

Born March 14, 1920, in Phoenix, she lived in Vista for 12 years. She was a volunteer with Tri-City Medical Center Auxiliary and worked for See's Candies in Los Angeles for 10 years.

Mrs. Lugo is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Albert and Cathy Lugo of Manhattan Beach and Anthony and Donna Lugo of Vista; sister Clementina Villasenor of Vista; sisters-in-law Delphine Lugo and Sarah Shemaria, both of Vista; and grandchildren John Lugo, Kelly Lugo, Erin Lugo, all of Manhattan Beach, and Danika Lugo, Brendan Lugo, Kier Lugo and Dominique Lugo, all of Vista.

A Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at Old Mission San Luis Rey, with the Rev. Vincent Hughes officiating. Inurnment will follow at Old Mission San Luis Rey Cemetery.

Manuel Lopez, 78

VISTA - Manuel A. Lopez, 78, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, in Vista.

Born July 5, 1921, in San Diego, he lived in Vista for 78 years. He worked for the Navy Civil Service and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Lopez is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Lopez of Vista; son Michael Lopez of San Diego; daughters Suzanne Trousset and Marlene Cruz, both of Vista; sister Carmen Gallina of Garden Grove; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 10, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Vista, with the Rev. Pat Mulcahy officiating.

The family suggests memorial donations to the American Heart Association, 3640 Fifth Ave., San Diego, CA 92103.

Helen Sylvester, 83

FALLBROOK - Helen V. Sylvester, 83, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999.

Born May 21, 1916, in Artesia, N.M., she lived in Fallbrook for 47 years. She was a real estate broker/salesman and a member of the Fallbrook Art Association and the Fallbrook Women's Club.

Mrs. Sylvester is survived by her son, J. Dale Sylvester of Fallbrook; daughter Marye L. Reed of Paradise Valley, Ariz.; sister Marjorie Thigpen of Artesia, N.M.; grandchildren Derek L. Gross of Capitola and Vanessa Reed; and great-granddaughters Ariele and Deven.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, at the Fallbrook Women's Club.

John Neeley, 64

FALLBROOK - John Monroe Neeley, 64, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at his home in Fallbrook.

Born Nov. 26, 1935, in Imboden, Va., he lived in Fallbrook since 1969. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1952 to 1973.

Mr. Neeley was preceded in death by his son, John Monroe Neeley Jr.; brothers Emerson and Harrison Neeley; and one sister.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Annie Kennedy Neeley of Fallbrook; son Ronald Curtis Neeley of Fallbrook; daughter Patsi Anderson of Fallbrook; brothers James Neeley of Duffield, Va., and Richard Neeley of Pekin, Ind.; sisters Nancy Wells of Duffield, Fanny DeBoeard of Salem, Ind., and Georgia Gibson of Pekin; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lloyd Phipps officiating.

The family suggests memorial donations to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 911 E. Elder St., Fallbrook, CA 92028.

Christine Van Metre, 50

OCEANSIDE - Christine Lee Van Metre, 50, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at UCSD Hillcrest.

Born Oct. 12, 1949, in Huntington Park, she lived in Oceanside for four years. She was a peer counselor and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Mrs. Van Meter is survived by her son, William Lee Philpott of Lawndale; daughter Lynnette Bell of Carmichael; and grandson George Bell V.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Interment will take place at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 10, at Roosevelt Memorial Park in Gardena.

Joyce Jessen, 78

OCEANSIDE - Joyce M. Jessen, 78, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, in Vista.

Born Aug. 4, 1921, in Moline, Ill., she lived in Oceanside for 34 years. She was retired.

Mrs. Jessen is survived by her sons, Dean Smarsty and Dennis Smarsty, both of Vista, and Richard Smarsty of Santa Ana; daughters Karen Canfield of San Diego and Sharon Johnson of Moline; sister Dorothy Nichols of Milton, Wis.; 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Alice Krikorian, 77

VISTA - Alice Krikorian, 77, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Tri-City Medical Center.

Born April 3, 1922, in Massachusetts, she lived in Vista for 19 years. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Krikorian is survived by her husband, George Krikorian of Vista; sons Harry, George, Michael and Richard Krikorian; brother Michael Ataganian of New Mexico; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation and viewing will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, and from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. A funeral service follows at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Eternal Hills Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow.

Frank Aleshire, 75
CARLSBAD - Frank Aleshire, 75, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at his home in Carlsbad.

Born Jan. 24, 1924, in Pasadena, he lived in Carlsbad for 20 years. He was city manager of Carlsbad for 50 years and city manager of Palm Springs and Scottsdale, Ariz. He was a 1947 graduate of Stanford University and served during World War II as a test pilot. He was a member of the Audubon Society of Carlsbad, the Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation and Rotary International.

Mr. Aleshire was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Aleshire, in 1998. He is survived by his sons, David B. Aleshire of Irvine, Peter L. Aleshire of Phoenix and Brian S. Aleshire of San Bernardino; and grandchildren Amy Aleshire, Danny Aleshire and Seth, Noah and Caleb Aleshire.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at Carlsbad Community Church.

Jonny Garcia, 19

ESCONDIDO - Jonny M. Garcia, 19, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, in San Diego.

Born May 19, 1980, in Santa Ana, he lived in Escondido for 17 years. He was a marble installer for Superior Marble and graduated from Escondido High School.

Mr. Garcia is survived by his mother and father, Ramona Nord and Jose Manuel Garcia Sr. of Escondido; grandfather Clyde Nord of Washington; brother and sister-in-law Jose Jesus Jr. and Eilene Garcia of Escondido; nephew Rizzo Jose Garcia; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 7, at McLeod Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Thomas McCauley, 34

VISTA - Thomas Charles McCauley II, 34, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at his home in Vista.

Born Sept. 3, 1965, in San Diego, he lived in Vista for nine years. He was MIS director at Axelgaard for nine years and served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a corporal for four years.

Mr. McCauley is survived by his mother, Joice Boice of Avondale, Ariz.; father Thomas McCauley of Bend, Ore.; grandmother Audrey Sacket of Avondale, Ariz.; grandfather Harry Quesenberry of El Cajon; sisters Judith Roberts, Deborah Roberts and Teresa McCauley, all of Phoenix.

No local service is scheduled. A private family inurnment is planned.

Charles Weickgenant, 73

SAN MARCOS - Charles Jacob "Jim" Weickgenant, 73, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, or Parkinson's disease, at his home.

Born Sept. 9, 1926, in Battle Creek, Mich., he lived in San Marcos for 27 years. He practiced urology in Vista, retiring in 1985.. He served in the U.S. Air Force for two years and received his undergraduate degree at Albion College and his medical degree from Wayne University.

Mr. Weickgenant was preceded in death by his son, Charles Robert Weickgenant, in 1998. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Helga Weickgenant of San Marcos; five children; two stepchildren; and 11 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at St. Michael's by the Sea Episcopal Church in Carlsbad.

The family suggests memorial donations to Vitas Hospice, 8880 Rio San Diego Dr., San Diego, CA 92108; or the National Parkinson's Foundation Inc., c/o USC University Hospital 1500 San Pablo St., Los Angeles, CA 90033; or the American Parkinson's Disease Association Inc., at Avco Center Building, 10850 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90024.

Perry Wells, 65

OCEANSIDE - Perry Banard Wells, 65, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Tri-City Medical Center.

Born Jan. 27, 1934, in Logan, Ill., he lived in Oceanside for 27 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a master gunnery sergeant.

Mr. Wells was preceded in death by his brother, Carl Wells Jr., in 1998. He is survived by his wife, Wilhelmina Wells; son Donald W. Wells of Carlsbad; daughters Kathleen Elizabeth Nugent of Taipei, Taiwan, Perri Anne Ybanez of Carlsbad and Deborah Lynn Wells of Vista; sisters Nene Strang of Oceanside and Imogene South of Carmi, Ill.; and grandchildren Alejandro, Tiffany, David, Amy and Christopher.

A graveside service was held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. A private inurnment is planned.

The family suggests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, 12405 Rancho Bernardo Road, San Diego, CA 92128.

Marjorie Anderson, 93

ESCONDIDO - Marjorie B. Anderson, 93, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, in Escondido.

Born July 31,, 1906, in East Liverpool, Ohio, she lived in Escondido for 32 years.

Mrs. Anderson is survived by her husband of 32 years, Dr. Ernest Anderson of Escondido; son John Aston of Carlsbad; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A private cremation is planned.

Audrey Capper, 78

ENCINITAS - Audrey Jean Capper, 78, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at her home in Encinitas.

Born June 13, 1921, in Hanberg, N.Y., she lived in Encinitas for 30 years.

Mrs. Capper is survived by her sons, William Capper of Encinitas and Robert Capper of Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.; brother Kenneth Kurtzman of Tacoma, Wash.; sister Beth Wolff of Maryland; and two grandchildren.

A private cremation was held.

Lillian Bushey, 73

FALLBROOK - Lillian L. Bushey, 73, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, of a stroke.

Born Dec. 21, 1926, in Kansas City, Mo., she lived in Fallbrook for 1 1/2 years. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fallbrook, PELLO Support Group in Fallbrook, Holy Cross Catholic Church in Overland Park, Kan., and Golden Girls Support Group in Overland Park, Kan.

Mrs. Bushey was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 50 years, William J. Bushey, on Oct. 8, 1995; and her brothers, Harry Rock, Charles Rock, William Edie and Kenneth Rock. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Donald J. and Susan Bushey of Jonesboro, Ga.; daughter Deborah J. Bushey of Edmonds, Wash.; brother and sister-in-law Traverce and Valerie Rock of Gladstone, Mo.; sister Mary Boman of Virginia Beach, Va.; sisters-in-law Thelma Smith of Leawood, Kan., Margaret Rock of Long Beach and Mildred Edie of Oak Grove, Mo.; and grandchildren William A. Rash III, Heather A. Rash, Donald J. Bushey Jr., Aileen Bushey, Emily Bushey and Jacob Bushey.

Visitation Tuesday, Dec. 28, in Overland Park, Kan. A Mass was celebrated Wednesday, Dec. 29, also in Overland Park. Burial took place at Resurrection Catholic cemetery in Overland.

Elizabeth McLeod, 96

ESCONDIDO - Elizabeth Browning McLeod, 96, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, of Parkinson's disease, in Escondido.

Born July 31, 1903, in Ogden, Utah, she lived in Escondido for 74 years. She was a homemaker and a member of PEO Chapter FV for 50 years.

Mrs. McLeod was preceded in death by her husband, Stewart F. McLeod; and her son, Stewart S. McLeod. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Mary R. McLeod of San Diego; grandchildren Kathleen Elizabeth McLeod of Ramona, Carolyn McLeod Atkinson of Chelan, Wash., Charles Stewart McLeod of Zepher Cove, Nev., and Lisa Morgan McLeod of Manhattan, N.Y.; and great-grandchildren Mathew B. Simmons and Margaret Elizabeth Maher.

A celebration of life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at Sirinos, 113 E. Grand Avenue, Escondido. A private family interment will take place at Cypress View Mausoleum in San Diego.

The family suggests memorial donations to The Theatre in Old Town, 4040 Twiggs St., San Diego, CA 92103.

Barbara Lewallen, 62

POWAY - Barbara Lee Lewallen, 62, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Pomerado Hospital.

Born Nov. 5, 1937, in La Cross, Kan., she lived in Poway for 12 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Chapel International Fellowship.

Mrs. Lewallen is survived by her sons, Brad Lewallen of San Diego and Robert Wallace of Houston; daughter Robin Wallace of Houston; brothers LeRoy Bashor of Great Bend, Kan., and Charles Peak of Hanford; sister Leona Chaffee of Poway; and four grandchildren.

A celebration of eternal life with the Lord will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at Calvary Chapel International Fellowship, with Jeff Jackson officiating.
