Local Items:

Auburn is to have no public Christmas Tree celebration. But there will be a good many private ones.

Shawls, silks, umbrellas, kid gloves, Russia leather goods, toilet sets, ties, initial handkerchiefs, etc. etc., suitable for Christmas presents, at Lubeck’s.

Colfax will have a Christmas Festival, of course. It bids fair to be a success. Afterwards, the hall will be cleared for a dance.

There will be turkey and chicken-shooting at Newcastle on Christmas Day, Berry Mitchell being Master of Ceremonies. Twenty-five cents a shot at the turkeys, and a “bit” at the chickens. Shooting distance, about 200 yards.

A Dramatic Entertainment and New Year’s Ball will be given at Good Templars’ Hall, Newcastle, on the evening of December 31st, by the Amateur Dramatic Club of Penryn; on which occasion will be presented the popular Temperance Drama, entitled The Last Loaf, to conclude with the laughable farce, The Man with the Demijohn. After the performance, an opportunity will be given to the devotees of Terpsichore to dance “the old year out and the new year in.” Tickets to the entertainment, 50 cents. Supper at Page’s Hotel; tickets, admitting lady and gentleman, $1.

A party will be given at the residence of Mr. G. W. Honn near Clipper Gap on Christmas Day. Tickets, including a good supper, $1.50.

There will be a turkey shooting tournament on Christmas Day in Dutch Flat.

A New Year’s Ball will be given at the same place on Dec. 31st, for the benefit of the brass band.
