OLD EAST NAPA DEPOT
28 November 2003
Looking for information on our home which used to be the Napa Train Depot at Third St and Soscol around the early 1900s.

It was called the Old East Napa Depot. Due to a tragic train wreck (which claimed the lives of 13 people), another accident (where 11 were injured), a fire that caused $250,000 in damages, the train was phased out in favor of trucks and bus transportation.

Based on the little information I have it seems that the depot was relocated to its present location (near the corner of Pine St. and Roosevelt St.) during the late 30s or early 40s. There is a house which we share the driveway with, which was the other portion of the depot.

Of course, much has been done to alter the original structure - hence 2 homes now. But, I am interested still to gather any more information and to see if I can get it registered as a National Certified Historic Structure.

I was able to get some information through public records at the Napa Historical Society, so any other information provided would be greatly appreciated!

BARNES, KOHLER
4 November 2003
I am researching the family of Anna KOHLER BARNES. Anna's father had the initial "M". They were living in St. Helena, Napa Co. I believe they originated in Melbourne, Australia. I believe that Anna went to San Jose S.H.S. She then went to Stanford University where she graduated in May 1896. She married Earl Barnes (Professor at Stanford) from Martville, NY in 1900.

They moved to Philadelphia and then retired to New Hartford, Ct. They had four children, Bernard, Howard, Joseph, and Mary. I cannot verify Anna's birth date or the time they were in Napa County, but I have her in high school there. Any help any one can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

HATT, WOHLERS
6 September 2003
Seeking information regarding the HATT and WOHLERS families of 1870 to abt.1910 in Napa.

John HATT b. abt. 1811, his wife Paulena, b. abt. 1817 both of Germany arrived in Napa abt. 1870. Several children included Bertha HATT, Rudolph, Rubin, Herman. Oldest son Albert most likely arrived in Napa a few years before his parents.

From what I have already gathered, John Hatt walked away from his home in 1884 and was not heard from again according to a June 15, 1884 newspaper article in the Fresno Republic. Paulena Seiler Hatt was listed in the 1900 Census of Napa as age 82, that's where my tracking stops for Paulena. Albert Edward Hatt was the owner of the Mill on the Napa River. He was listed in the 1870 Census of Napa, listed as "boatman" age 26. Not found in the 1880 Census, then he shows up again in 1900 and 1910 Census. My trail stops with 1910 Census for Albert Edward Hatt Sr.

Bertha Hatt b. 1851 married John Wohlers, b. abt. 1837, Germany, married Nov. 6, 1873 in Napa. I don't have much on John Wohlers in Napa except for 1880 Census record in Napa. Bertha and John moved to San Francisco some time before 1900 Census. best wishes, Bob.

MUSGROVE, MUSGRAVE, SPEED, FOWLER
14 August 2003
Looking for information on CALVIN MUSGROVE/MUSGRAVE, born about 1819, TN, shown on the 1850 and 1860 US Census in Napa Co., CA. He eloped with the older CATHERINE SPEED, wife of JOHN FOWLER, probably while they were in Mississippi. Her daughter, CATHERINE FOWLER, married a cousin, LOUIS MUSGROVE, son of THOMAS MUSGROVE/MUSGRAVE, who had been living in Mississippi shortly before the 1840 census. LOUIS might have been the infamous L. H. MUSGROVE, outlaw, hanged in 1868 in Colorado. He had killed some people in California. THOMAS MUSGROVE/MUSGRAVE, father of LOUIS, was the brother of QUIMBY MUSGROVE, JR. also on the 1840 census in Mississippi, who left after 1845 and before 1847 for Lamar Co., TX, then went on to settle in Arkansas. QUIMBY and THOMAS MUSGROVE/MUSGRAVE were from Hardeman Co., TN, with QUIMBY MUSGROVE, SR. on 1830 census. Somehow they are connected with BENNETT and BURRELL MUSGROVE from Missouri. Does anyone have any information on these families?
Ann

BEINHORN, OXFORD
1 April 2003
ALICE OXFORD. We are trying to trace Alice Beinhorn, b. ca 1883 or so who married Walter Oxford in Orosi, Tulare Co., CA. He is shown on the 1900 Tulare Co. Census as Walter A. Oxford, age 21, born in TX, a salesman. Walter Oxford and Alice Beinhorn were married June 8, 1902, Tulare Co., CA. We lose track of them thereafter but we know that some of the Beinhorn family moved to Napa Co. Walter is buried in Smith Mountain Cemetery near Dinuba, Tulare Co., CA and we were able to find Alice Oxford on the SSDI search results, last living at 94515 Calistoga, Napa, CA. Lists her as born 2 Aug. 1882 and died Dec. 1971. This very possibly could be our Alice Beinhorn.

We do not know if they had children or anything else about this family. If anyone can help us, we would appreciate it. We have just found information on this family back to 1812 in Hamburg, Germany and are very excited about tracing other family members.

DeBOYCE, BOYCE
1 March 2003
Hi, my name is Diane McBain. I am researching the DeBoyce/Boyce Families of Napa Co. The last census I find them on is the 1870 census of Hot Springs, Calistoga, Napa Co. Calif. I believe Boyce, Edwin is my g-grandfather (He also went by William E. DeBoyce) he is listed with his wife Maria (Weddle) and one year old son. Next door Wm. P. DeBoyce who I believe to be my gg-grandfather and his wife Susan (Ried ) DeBoyce with their daughter Francis V. DeBoyce. A researcher who posted his family information and no longer can be reached listed this book and page no. concerning this family. I was wondering if someone could do a look-up for me and if so what would be the charge? He also states that he has family notes of Valdez Cameron Henry written in 1981. I have obtained William DeBoyces death cert. and it states his mother's maiden name was Ried also have photo of Susan Reid Boyce tone in the Pioneer Cemetery. The DeBoyces' seemed to add and drop the De through out the years. Any help will greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Diane
